The Forensic Doctor Better Than a Detective

Chapter 471: Chapter 272: This Is Not an Isolated Case!

Seeing this, Jiang An quickly offered comfort, ”Actually, we can’t entirely blame the forensic examiner at the time; examining skeletal remains is inherently difficult. We can’t expect every forensic expert to examine every inch with a magnifying glass, that’s not practical. Besides, there’s no strict regulation in textbooks about this. Moreover, the photo only became so clear after exposure adjustments from the camera. If the lab lighting was dim, it’s perfectly normal to miss these details.”

Upon hearing this, Wan let out a long sigh of relief, the gloom on his face dissipating somewhat, and he sighed helplessly, saying, ”That’s good, if the forensic specialist were to be disciplined or even face heavier punishment for this little thing, it would be so unjust, it’s not easy for anyone to do their work.”

Zhang Yean also smiled, relaxing her tense nerves, and nodded, saying, ”Yes, our organization surely protects its own people and won’t act recklessly.”

The, Jiang An’s expression grew increasingly serious, and after a pause, he slowly began to speak, ”The reason I judged that the deceased was in a standing position when attacked is another important factor. The scratches on the victim’s face were very chaotic. In my opinion, he faced the killer directly, struggled to escape during the fight, and the killer waved the knife randomly, leaving cut marks on the victim’s face. If the victim had been seated, the wounds would likely have been on the head or forehead.”

”Impressive!” Wan, seeing what seemed like an unparalleled master, his eyes lit up, giving a high thumbs-up, sincerely praising, ”Originally, I thought examining skeletal remains was very straightforward, just had to check if the bones were damaged. Today, I didn’t expect there to be so many twists and turns.”

Zhang Yean nodded in agreement, her face full of admiration, saying, ”Indeed! I’ve seen quite a few forensic experts and colleagues. You are the first and only one I’ve seen find tiny knife marks on bones with a magnifying glass. Amazing, hahaha!”

”Actually, this is quite normal.” Jiang An humbly smiled, patiently explaining, ”If a person’s skin is cut by a sharp object, the mark is obvious. But after skin decays, especially the cutting of the tympanic membrane, the fiber damage on the surface is very difficult to find with the naked eye, you really can’t blame people.”

Zhang Yean appreciated Jiang An even more, her gaze full of admiration, saying, ”I feel that you’re in Jiangcheng not just as a forensic expert. Your skills are almost like Sherlock Holmes’, I admire you!”

”I also admire you.” Wan laughed, his eyes narrowing. To them, although the results of solving the case were not directly related to personal interests, who wouldn’t want to earn some merit in the case? This is crucial for personal promotion. If your file is empty without merit materials, moving up is as hard as climbing to the sky.

Then, Jiang An added, ”Now we can basically confirm that the killer is skilled with a knife. Also, the neck cutting technique is exactly the same as in the Yang Xiu case. A person’s criminal behavior always has some signature moves, which are often the key to linking cases.”

Zhang Yean and Wan nodded repeatedly, Jiang An’s analysis was meticulous and convincing. The killer’s criminal mark is like a birthmark, innate. For example, some killers like to dress the victim; some are obsessed with cleaning the scene; others like to leave special marks on the victim. And this killer’s most prominent mark is his skill with knives.

”Wow, this killer is quite a character.” Wan looked up at the ceiling, as if talking to the heavens, suddenly turned to Jiang An and asked, ”Do you mean that this case and the Yang Xiu case were done by the same killer?”

Jiang An nodded with certainty, ”Most likely. A person’s age may increase, but criminal marks are very stable. Like your habit of using your right hand to hold chopsticks, you probably won’t change it in your lifetime. In these two cases, the killer used a quick and sharp killing method, slashing the throat with one cut, causing neck artery rupture and death by hemorrhage.”

Jiang An paused, as if suddenly recalling something, and asked, ”Where was this victim found again?”

Zhang Yean answered without hesitation, ”Under a bridge.”

”Under a bridge?” Jiang An frowned slightly, eyes deep in thought.

Zhang Yean added, ”I heard it was discovered by someone catching crayfish. If it’s a serial killer, why is the crime location different?”

Jiang An seemed to be perplexed by a hard question, his gaze shifting back and forth between the corpse photo and the case file cover. From the time of occurrence, this White Bone case happened half a year after the Yang Xiu case.”

”If the two cases were indeed done by the same killer, why is there such a big difference in the way the bodies are handled?”

At this moment, Zhang Yean seemed to be struck by a bolt of lightning, a flash of insight in her mind. She excitedly slapped her thigh and exclaimed, ”You know, I remember another unsolved case. Also, a female victim with a single sword through the throat, in a deserted area.”

Meanwhile, inside the Ruyi Foot Massage Shop.

Li Jian and another police officer were engaging in a ”psychological battle” with Ye Hui.

Li Jian’s eyes shone sharply, staring intently at Ye Hui, not missing any change in his facial expressions, and asked, ”Apart from being tall, what other characteristics did the man you mentioned have?”

Ye Hui, as if burnt by Li Jian’s gaze, nervously raised his hand to scratch his head, his eyes darting around, trying hard to recall, saying, ”Other characteristics? I only glanced once, apart from being exceptionally tall and sturdy, there was really nothing special. But...” he paused, afraid that others might not believe him, raising his voice, ”I felt that his interaction with the woman on the sofa didn’t look like he was there for fun.”

”What do you mean by that?”

”Officer, to be honest,” Ye Hui answered with sincerity, ”I’ve done this kind of thing before. Those men looking for fun, aren’t they all impatient like grabbing money, who has time to chat? But I saw that man, chatting so easily and freely with that young girl. And, this man clearly worked out regularly at the gym, his muscles were so firm, would such a man want a girlfriend like that?”

The officer beside him seized the opportunity to ask, ”Do you still remember him? If we showed you a photo now, could you recognize him?”

Ye Hui reacted as if hearing a life-threatening question, hurriedly waving his hand, saying, ”Oh no, boss, don’t joke with me, it’s been so long. How could I remember? But why do I remember him so well? To be honest, back then I felt so inferior in my heart, how could such an excellent, good-looking man seek out such a woman? If he wanted, he could easily find one online with no effort. That’s why I haven’t forgotten all these years.”

Hearing this, Li Jian seemed to grasp a key clue, his eyes brightened, quickly sketching the profile of that mysterious man in his mind. He stood up, and with a determined look, said, ”If you remember anything else later, contact me immediately. This is my card.”

”Yes, yes, of course, I’ll definitely call right away.”

”And if you are the killer, I advise you to surrender sooner.”

”No, no way am I the killer.”

Li Jian stood up, his gaze sweeping the foot massage shop with authority, his voice low and forceful, ”If you’re running a foot massage shop, do business honestly, don’t engage in shady activities. If we catch you, it won’t be good for you.”

”Of course, of course, officer, don’t worry!”

”I’ll definitely run it well, and won’t do anything illegal.”

Ye Hui quickly assured, his face filled with a flattering smile.

Afterward, Li Jian and his team strode out of the foot massage shop.

They were well aware that the next target was locked in, the mysterious man who didn’t seem a john, yet showed up there.
