Nexus Ascension: My Comprehension Defies the Heaven

Chapter 217: The origin imprint

[Your comprehension defies the heaven! By observing the DNA structure of a shadow wolf, you’ve gained insight into its structural engineering and origin imprint!]

information flashed into Grey’s head like a tidal wave. The mysteries of the DNA within the beast core began to slowly unfold within his mind.

Grey was completely absorbed in the beast core. Time kept moving forward, but Grey did not stop. Lia and Valeria returned to the mansion together with Little Hong, who was wearing new clothing, but once they saw that he was not reacting at all, they quietly withdrew.

The clone had also been dismissed by Grey since he was fully focused on the core, so they did not see it. Seeing how concentrated he was, they chose not to disturb him.

”What was Grey doing?” Lia asked in confusion. He seemed to be paying no attention to the outside world and only kept staring at the beast core in his hand.

”Who knows.” Valeria shook her head helplessly. ”He must be in the process of doing something groundbreaking, so let’s not disturb him.”

”He already told me to manage the province for him and said he would not show his face often. He is most likely experimenting with something.”

”Come, let’s try out the new dresses on Little Hong.”

Lia nodded and turned toward Little Hong, who looked at the two big sisters in front of her with a dumbfounded expression. The next moment, the smiling ladies dragged her away.

...

The next day.

Grey was still engrossed in it. The mysteries of the shadow wolf were continuously absorbed by him, and eventually, the process was completed.

[Your comprehension defies the heaven! By observing the structure and origin imprint of a shadow wolf, you’ve comprehended its structural engineering and its trait ’silent shadow’.]

”This is shocking.” Grey was, quite honestly, stunned.

After the comprehension, he finally understood it.

He finally understood where beasts obtained their special traits from, and where almost all other beings obtained theirs from.

Origin Imprint!

”The beast core forms traits from these origin imprints.”

But what exactly was an origin imprint?

He himself did not know the answer to that question. Who placed it inside the structural DNA, and how did it come to be?

Because it definitely did not form out of nowhere.

That much was made clear to him once he understood the entire structural engineering of the wolf.

The origin imprints did not always exist. Instead, they first appeared when beasts formed their cores.

Speaking of structural engineering, Grey also began to understand the deeper details behind DNA, genes, and chromosomes.

DNA was the complete set of prebuilt instructions within a lifeform’s biological structure. It defined everything, from how tall one could grow to physical appearance and innate limitations. It was the foundation, fixed and difficult to alter.

Genes, on the other hand, were individual instruction units embedded within DNA. Each gene was responsible for a specific task, issuing commands such as ’build this structure’, ’control this process’, or ’regulate this function’.

Alone, a gene meant little. Only when activated did it matter.

Chromosomes were where everything truly came together.

They were the organizational framework. They determined how DNA was folded, how genes were grouped, and more importantly, which instructions could actually be accessed.

The DNA itself might remain unchanged, but a different chromosomal structure could lead to entirely different outcomes.

In other words, DNA set the limits, genes provided the instructions, and chromosomes decided what the body was allowed to use.

All of these were detrimental to a person, and that was especially the case for evolvers. Transformation techniques directly altered the DNA.

”And once the alteration is fully complete, traits are formed using origin imprints.” That was his theory.

Beasts were already beasts. They did not change their races, and hence they could unlock traits earlier than humans at the 2nd rank.

”Now, if I develop a transformation technique to specifically change my DNA to match the structure of the origin imprint, I can obtain the trait.”

And he already knew of a transformation technique that targeted beast transformations.

But before that, he wanted to observe a primordial human first and see what changes occurred during the transformation process.

Although he understood the structural engineering, there was still the matter of how to apply it. That part was still not specified.

Maybe observing more changes and transformations would help him.

However, just then, Grey felt something. It was coming from the secret realm.

”It’s Alissa.” Grey swiftly stood up and snapped the secret realm portal open.

As soon as he crossed over, he felt the temperature around him drop. He even shivered slightly from the cold.

”I’m shivering?” Grey was dumbfounded.

His physique had already surpassed the stage where even a snowstorm in Icewalls could affect him. This only meant that this ice was no ordinary ice.

Additionally, he heard cries of distress from the infernals. They all wore terrified expressions as they endured the frigid cold.

For beings that lived in temperatures hotter than the sun, the cold being produced was their natural bane.

[Your comprehension defies the heaven! By observing a Source Law of Frost, you’ve gained insight into the ’True Source Ice’.]

”Source Law?” Grey was stunned.

Now what was a source law?

He knew what normal and creational laws were. Chaos, Hongmeng, Heavenly Laws, Taiyin, and Taiyang were all laws of creation and balance.

Then there were normal laws, such as the Law of Ice and the Law of Fire.

But what exactly was a source law?

Grey’s figure flickered, and the next moment he was standing beside a huge cocoon made of frost. Ice continuously spilled out from it without stopping, and the nearby vegetation was being affected as a result.

Then, abruptly, he saw a crack forming.
