Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 2154: Chapter 2149: Rumors Abound

Zhang Yun felt heartbroken seeing her son injured.

However, there was an even more troubling issue — the secret leak incident from last time had never been fully investigated, and Qin Jian received a disciplinary action from his superiors, though his position was not removed.

After this military exercise, another batch of outstanding talents was set for promotion and commendation. If it weren’t for that espionage incident, Qin Jian was about to be promoted to deputy commander.

But because that issue remains unresolved, he won’t be considered for commendation or promotion.

Although Qin Jian wouldn’t throw a fit over this, deep down he felt somewhat uncomfortable.

With his leg injured and walking not particularly convenient, Zhang Jianguo also considered Qin Jian’s mood, so he let him rest at home for half a month before returning to work.

His position was temporarily taken over by the deputy commander.

However, once the news spread, it seemed to be twisted in a way and became gossip at every household’s dinner table.

”Hey, did you hear?” Liao Ting asked Wang Zhong while eating, ”I heard Qin Jian is going to be suspended? The position of commander might fall to the deputy commander.”

”Who did you hear that from?” Wang Zhong looked up at Liao Ting and said, ”I’ve noticed you really have a lot of inside information! If you have any questions, just ask me; I’m the regiment’s political officer. Is there anything in this regiment that I’m unaware of?”

”That’s true! But is it real this time?” Liao Ting asked Wang Zhong with a gossiping expression.

”It’s false! Qin Jian is still the commander; the position has always been his! How can it be someone else’s?” Wang Zhong stuffed a few more mouthfuls of food, his mouth full, then added, ”Don’t make a mountain out of a molehill! Don’t go spreading rumors! Qin Jian’s taking a few days off because of his leg injury, but the regiment’s work can’t go undone, so the deputy commander is temporarily stepping in!”

”Really?” Liao Ting was skeptical.

”Why would I lie to you?”

”Wang Zhong, I’ve heard that this time there’s no promotion or commendation for him! Do you think it’s a signal from the top... Is he likely done for? They haven’t figured out that espionage thing, and now rumors about him and Yuan Yunong are all over the military district compound. I bet even the commander can’t protect him, right?” Liao Ting said, a hint of satisfaction in her tone.

If Qin Jian wasn’t the commander anymore, she’d like to see on what basis An Hao could still be so smug?

”Stop talking nonsense! You know about Qin Jian’s family situation better than anyone, and Teacher Yuan came over to help; everything was above board, so how did it get twisted into something so sordid by you guys?” Wang Zhong slammed his rice bowl and chopsticks onto the table and said, ”What on earth occupies your mind every day? You’re getting older and still not grown up! Look at An Hao, then look at yourself. Ever since you became a manager, you turned into a gossipmonger and learned to stand at the door spreading rumors for others.”

Liao Ting’s face flushed with anger as Wang Zhong criticized her: ”Now you can’t stand me anymore, is that it? When you married me, you weren’t like this! You didn’t see An Hao before, but now you have, do you think you’ve wasted your life? Do you think I’m not good enough for you anymore?”

”Liao Ting! I’ve noticed you’re not as sweet as you used to be!” Wang Zhong glared at his wife, speaking gruffly, ”Do you know what kind of stories about Qin Jian’s family are circulating around the military district now? That’s all your ’doing’!”
