Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1540: Chapter 1540: Your Life is Mine

Hen Zhiyuan remained silent, his gaze drifting towards Guan Qing.

Her expression on her face was faint, but Hen Zhiyuan could see through the sadness in her heart.

He lowered his head to look at Ma Mei, who was clutching his wrist tightly, and then slowly raised his hand to push hers away.

Ma Mei was stunned.

Immediately after, Hen Zhiyuan’s voice rang in her ears, ”I’m sorry, Ma Mei! Let’s get a divorce!”

”What? Say that again?” Ma Mei felt a buzz in her head as if she couldn’t hear what Hen Zhiyuan was saying clearly.

”I said let’s get a divorce. You can file a lawsuit against me at the court. However, after we divorce, I will leave all the family assets to you, so you won’t have to live in too much discomfort...”

Before Hen Zhiyuan could finish speaking, he received a heavy slap across the cheek.

After the smack, blood slowly trickled from the corner of his mouth.

”Ma Mei! Are you crazy? Why are you hitting people like that?” Guan Qing cared for Hen Zhiyuan and quickly took out a handkerchief from her pocket to wipe the blood from the corner of his mouth.

”Get lost!” Ma Mei swung her hand and knocked the handkerchief out of Guan Qing’s hand, shouting fiercely, ”Before he and I are divorced, he is still my husband. You have no right to touch him!”

”You...” Guan Qing glared, just as she was about to curse, Hen Zhiyuan stopped her.

Out of respect for Hen Zhiyuan, Guan Qing swallowed back what she wanted to say, ”Fine. I won’t argue. I won’t say anything; I’ll just wait and see how you’re going to deal with it.”

”Ma Mei...”

”Don’t call me!” Ma Mei’s heart shattered as she looked at Hen Zhiyuan, pointing at his nose and cursing, ”You’re truly Chen Shimeng! Have you forgotten how we got married? Have you forgotten the vows you made to me! Have you forgotten how my sister and brother-in-law died? Your life was saved by them. Your life belongs to me, Ma Mei! And now you want to divorce me! There’s no way!”

Now, Guan Qing finally understood why Hen Zhiyuan had never divorced Ma Mei.

It turned out that it was Ma Mei’s sister and brother-in-law who had saved Hen Zhiyuan’s life, which is why he chose to continue a loveless marriage with Ma Mei.

It was nothing but a form of bondage.

”Ma Mei... I have always remembered the kindness of your sister and brother-in-law. Even if we get divorced, I will still help you,” Hen Zhiyuan spoke weakly, now unable to even take care of himself, let alone manage Ma Mei.

”I don’t need your help. I won’t divorce you! If we are to be poor, I can go begging with you,” said Ma Mei, staring straight into Hen Zhiyuan’s eyes.

”Ma Mei, there is no love left between us... Let’s separate...”

Ma Mei paused, then suddenly burst into laughter, ”Just admit you’ve grown weary of the old and are eager for the new! With the new, you want to forget the old? I’ll tell you straight, there’s no way!”

”Ma Mei!” Hen Zhiyuan grew agitated, ”Let’s divorce! This suffocating life is bland and tasteless...”

”I find it has its flavors. I will not divorce! Just you wait; even if it kills me, I’ll wear you down...”

Guan Qing suddenly laughed and said to Ma Mei, ”Your approach is the silliest! You’ll waste your youth, and in the end, you’ll gain nothing. If I were you, I wouldn’t do it.”

”This is not your place to speak.”

”Not mine. How about this?” Guan Qing smiled, pulled out a stack of money from her bag, and placed it in front of Ma Mei, ”This is ten thousand yuan. If you agree to the divorce, I’ll give you a hundred thousand! With this hundred thousand, you will be a genuine rich person. You can do whatever you want. Opening your own clinic and being your own boss, wouldn’t that be better?”
