Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1523: Chapter 1523: Disaster Looms

”You don’t know? The military camp is abuzz, saying that the Commander and the Third Battalion Commander purely disappeared into thin air because he stood by and watched them die.” Zhao Dong said.

I am aware of that. However, it’s all rumor, yet Vice Commander Hen Zhiyuan has done nothing to clarify. I truly admire his composure!” The First Battalion Commander was a simple-minded man who only looked at the surface of things.

Upon hearing this, Zhao Dong shook his head and pointed at him, ”You, you! Rumors? You should also look at where these rumors come from? If Battalion Commander Tian said this, I wouldn’t believe it. The key is that the Commander himself said it.”

”What do you mean?”

”You saw the Commander’s attitude today, didn’t you?” Zhao Dong patiently led him on, ”He was furious! His fists were clenched so tightly they were cracking!”

The First Battalion Commander nodded, ”Of course, I’m aware of that.”

”Doesn’t that explain the issue? What do you think is the purpose behind a Commander accusing a Vice Commander?”

”How would I know? Do the two have some personal grudge?” The First Battalion Commander spoke while chewing on a chicken leg.

”Hey, bro, can’t you put your brain to use? If you don’t use it, it might really get rusty,” Zhao Dong was exasperated by the First Battalion Commander, ”Alright, I won’t say anything more, just this then—what is the position of the Commander’s father?”

”The Commander, ah! Who doesn’t know that?”

”And Vice Commander Hen Zhiyuan?”

”How would I know that?”

”If the Commander died, who is most likely to become the new Commander?”

”Vice Commander Hen Zhiyuan...”

”Do I still need to explain?”

It was at this point that the First Battalion Commander finally understood, ”I get it now, you mean...”

”Understanding is enough,” Zhao Dong quickly gestured with his hand to silence him, ”It’s clear enough in our hearts. The Commander is definitely going to make a move now. Today, the Division Commander also talked to the Commander, and there will soon be major actions in the troops. Just you watch!”

”Vice Commander Hen Zhiyuan is going to suffer.”

”One hundred percent.”

Hen Zhiyuan heard every single word, and it seemed that things were going to get complicated.

Qin Jian really meant to put him in a life-or-death situation; he feared he truly had no strength to fight back.

Hen Zhiyuan clenched his fists tightly and walked away.

He wandered around the military area for a while, his mind in turmoil, not wanting to go home, and not knowing where else to go, he then walked out of the military compound alone.

The night was deep.

Alone, he walked onto the main road, aimlessly, just to ease his troubled mind.

Unconsciously, he walked a great distance, nearly from the suburbs to the city center.

Suddenly, the sound of a car engine came from behind him; turning around, he saw a sedan slowly driving up. The headlights flashed so brightly that Hen Zhiyuan couldn’t see who it was.

Once the car approached and stopped in front of him, Guan Qing poked her head out from the car window.

”Zhiyuan, what are you doing here? Get in!”

Hen Zhiyuan stood still, stunned. He hadn’t expected to bump into Guan Qing. Looking at her impeccably made-up face, his feet remained unmoved.

”Zhiyuan? Come on up,” Guan Qing smiled. She got out of the car, took his arm, and gently pushed him into the car.

Hen Zhiyuan got into the car, and Guan Qing, seeing the small frown on his forehead and his tight jawline, knew that he was in a foul mood.

With a smile, Guan Qing showcased her shrewdness by not asking Hen Zhiyuan exactly what was wrong, but instead suggested, ”Want to sit with me for a while? Since you’re already out and about.”
