Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1507: Chapter 1507: Spotting the First Signs

”What does that matter? It’s just that he’s upset I didn’t die, and Qin Jian did.”

”Is it really just being upset?”

”Really,” said Hen Zhiyuan. ”Don’t you believe me? I tried my hardest to save Qin Jian, but I couldn’t pull him up. You don’t know how I felt at that time... it was so heartbreaking. I really felt like jumping down myself. If it weren’t for the unfinished earthquake relief task, I...”

”Okay, one word from you is enough. As long as all of you are striving hard, I’m satisfied. Don’t worry, I will ensure you become the regiment commander!” said Commander Guan.

In the kitchen, Ma Mei was cooking while eavesdropping on the conversation.

Knowing that Commander Guan agreed to help, she was overwhelmingly excited.

She had to prepare a good dinner tonight.

Guan Qing came back today. Hearing that Hen Zhiyuan had returned from the disaster area and had been awarded a second-class merit, she rushed back from work excitedly. Do you know how difficult it is to get a second-class merit during peacetime?

A first-class merit would be even harder.

The honor of a first-class merit is earned with one’s life!

Thus, Hen Zhiyuan receiving a second-class merit was certainly a huge cause for celebration.

She drove home hurriedly. As soon as she entered, she threw her bag on the sofa and, wearing her high heels, ran towards Hen Zhiyuan sitting in the living room.

”Zhiyuan! I heard the good news and rushed over here. We really need to celebrate tonight. I brought red wine, imported from Hong Kong.”

”Sure,” Hen Zhiyuan said with a somewhat forced smile.

”Come, come. Quick, see what I bought for you? A shirt!” Guan Qing happily said as she took out the item. The brand-new shirt looked of very high quality as she removed it from the garment bag, ”How is it? Does it look good? Here, try it on, see if it fits?”

As she spoke, she excitedly tried to fit the shirt on Hen Zhiyuan.

”Guan Qing! No, no, no!” Hen Zhiyuan, startled, hastily stepped back a few steps. ”Your sister-in-law is here too!”

As Hen Zhiyuan’s words fell, Ma Mei walked out of the kitchen holding a spatula, seeing Guan Qing holding a white shirt, fitting it on her husband.

The gesture looked incredibly affectionate.

Ma Mei’s expression stiffened as she called out, ”Guan Qing.”

Guan Qing, obviously not expecting Ma Mei to be there today, found the situation extremely awkward and easy to misconstrue.

”Sister-in-law,” Guan Qing said with a strained smile, ”you’re here too?”

”Yes,” Ma Mei’s face lit up with a smile, implying something as she spoke, ”Guan Qing, that’s a nice shirt indeed. It looks quite expensive! What brought you to give Zhiyuan a shirt today?”

”Don’t talk nonsense. You’re making Guan Qing uncomfortable,” Hen Zhiyuan frowned and said to Ma Mei. ”This shirt isn’t for me; you’re thinking too much!”

”Yeah. How come? Bought a shirt and feeling shy to give it to Xiaozhang first? Wanting to have your Brother Zhiyuan try it on first?” Commander Guan couldn’t stand it anymore and had to speak up to clear the air for his daughter.

Guan Qing, an extremely intelligent woman, immediately grasped her father’s implication: ”Dad, isn’t it just because I want to surprise Xiaozhang? I’ve been single for so many years, finally finding someone I like, shouldn’t I treat him well?”

”Alright, alright. Bring your boyfriend home another day. We’ll invite your Brother Zhiyuan and your sister-in-law Ma Mei too! We’ll all help you check him out!” Commander Guan said.
