Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1189: Chapter 1189: The Shrewish Woman Scolding on the Street

This sort of thing, slinging mud at them and then having to raise someone else’s child, the An Family would absolutely never do.

At the main entrance.

Niu Xiuling came over, furious, with a letter in her hand that Niu Shanshan had written just before she left.

The letter stated that the An Family had backed out and the marriage was off.

She was too ashamed to stay in the village and decided to leave this place, to live somewhere else for a while.

When Niu Xiuling saw this letter, she was so mad she could explode. An Ping had spoken so nicely before he left.

But in the blink of an eye, he had changed his tune.

No wonder her daughter looked upset at dinner; it turned out this was why.

She had to get to the bottom of this with the An Family.

If the An Family couldn’t give a clear explanation, she would tear down their house.

So she walked and shouted, ”Villagers, come and see! Look at what kind of people the An Family are! An Ping got my daughter pregnant and now, for the sake of a bride price, he has abandoned his wife and child! Everyone, come and have a look!”

Her loud voice attracted neighbors and fellow villagers who, upon hearing her, all gathered noisily outside the An Family’s door.

Niu Xiuling stood at the entrance with her hands on her hips, starting to curse: ”An Shuchao, you old bastard! You’ve raised a son of a bitch! With sweet words, you coaxed my daughter into bed, and now that she’s pregnant, you wash your hands of it! Now you don’t even bother to show up, and my daughter has run away in distress! What kind of humanity is this! People like you deserve to be struck by thunder!”

The villagers, hearing her curses, all asked.

”What’s the matter? What happened?”

”You say the An Family isn’t getting married now?”

”Isn’t that so? Look, the red couplets on the door have been taken down.”

”An Shuchao, come out, you turtle who hides its head!” Niu Xiuling continued to shout and curse with hands on her hips, relishing in it.

Niu Da came scrambling after her, panicked, and tried to muzzle Niu Xiuling: ”I say, you silly old woman, what are you yelling for? How will our daughter be able to face anyone in the village after this?”

Niu Xiuling shoved Niu Da’s hand away, glared at him, and pointed at his head while scolding: ”You’re just a spineless good-for-nothing! Our daughter is being bullied right to our doorstep, and you still worry about this. Today, I’m here to get justice for our daughter! If the An Family dares not to marry our daughter, I will fight them with my life today!”

The villagers, unclear on the specifics, saw Niu Xiuling so furious and believed her words.

If it weren’t true, who would joke about their daughter’s chastity like this?

With all this commotion, the whole village knew, and from now on, it would truly be impossible to live in the village anymore.

At the same time, everyone sympathized with Niu Shanshan, all standing at the door pointing fingers at the An Family’s spine.

”What the An Family has done is just despicable, to sleep with someone and get her pregnant, then refuse to marry her!”

”Exactly! They’re rich and unkind.”

”Taking advantage of their wealth to bully others.”

”Niu Xiuling, we support you! Make that scoundrel An Ping come out; he has to take responsibility for this.”

Seeing everyone on her side made Niu Xiuling curse even more vehemently: ”All of you An Family people, come out! And An Hao, with a ’good’ character in your name, you don’t do a single good deed! You’ve utterly torn apart my daughter and An Ping, all because you couldn’t part with that bit of money! None of you are good for anything! If anything happens to my daughter Niu Shanshan, I swear I’ll burn your house down!”

Niu Xiuling cursed till she was hoarse, her throat smoking.

Inside, An Ping could no longer sit still upon hearing all of this. He jumped up and said to An Hao, ”I can’t stand this anymore! Wait and see, I’ll tear that old woman’s face off.”

An Hao also felt it was time and stood up as well: ”Come on! Let’s show the villagers who really deserves to be struck by lightning!”
