Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1179: Chapter 1179: Failed to Reach an Agreement, Talks Broke Down!

”What’s so bad about being a soldier? Dressed in a uniform, protecting the homeland, it’s glorious!” Niu Da took a drag from his cigarette and slowly exhaled a few rings of smoke, ”Isn’t An Ping’s brother-in-law a soldier?”

”He is a commander’s son. And who does your daughter fancy? Just a mere foot soldier, what good can come of him?” Liu Xiuling just couldn’t see it.

”Enough, enough, stop talking.” Niu Da couldn’t stand it anymore, ”Don’t let Erni and An Ping hear this; otherwise, there will be a huge commotion at home again.”

As soon as Niu Da’s words fell, Erni’s voice came from the doorway: ”Mom and Dad, An Ping and I are back. We bought quite a few things, come help us out.”

”Listen, just as the saying goes—speak of Cao Cao, and Cao Cao arrives.” Niu Da stood up.

”Where are you going?” Niu Xiuling’s face darkened as she stared at Niu Da.

”Didn’t the kids just mention? They asked to help carry the stuff. I’m just going to see.”

”No, you may not go.”

”Why can’t I go? I’m telling you, the kids came back in high spirits. Don’t you sulk! If they see you like this, it will upset them.” Niu Da scolded his wife.

”Hmph!” Niu Xiuling spat on the ground, ”This marriage arrangement is falling apart, what’s there to be happy about?”

”That’s because you’re demanding a dowry, and it led to this mess—who else can you blame?” Niu Da said angrily, ”In my opinion, if you want this marriage to continue, after dinner tonight, let’s go to the An Family and discuss the matter properly, whatever the amount should be, that’s what it will be! Don’t be too greedy.”

”I’m not going.” Niu Xiuling stood up furiously, poking her finger at Niu Da’s head, ”I think you’re just a fool, completely brainless! Still wanting to negotiate at the An Family, I’d rather wait for the An gentlemen to come to our door.”

”Just talk, stop poking my head, can you? Look at you, acting like a shrew! It’s getting out of hand; don’t you have any regard for me anymore?” Niu Da, having been suppressed by his wife for years, finally erupted over this issue.

”Who asked you to marry me? Can’t stand it now? Too late to complain!”

The couple was quarreling and shouting inside the house, and it could be heard clearly in the courtyard.

”Shanshan, why are your mom and dad fighting again?” An Ping asked while lugging a bunch of heavy stuff, as he walked.

”The two of them just know how to fight all day. It drives me crazy, and it’s most likely my mom’s fault again!” Niu Shanshan walked ahead swiftly, then kicked the door open, ”Enough already! Day in, day out, is it just about arguing? If you can’t stand it, just get a divorce.”

”How could you talk like that, you foolish girl?” Niu Xiuling growled.

”I’ve had enough of your constant bickering.” Niu Shanshan threw down what she was carrying and plonked herself down on a stool.

”We fight because of you! We went to discuss this matter this morning, but it fell through, it broke off!” Liu Xiuling said huffily.

An Ping, just entering the doorstep, froze upon hearing Niu Xiuling’s words, ”Aunt, what are you talking about? It fell through, how could it break off?”

”Go back and ask your dad!” Liu Xiuling pointed at the door, ”Come back only after you’ve understood clearly.”

”Look at how you, a senior, speak with such an attitude!” Niu Da quickly stepped forward, catching the things An Ping was holding, ”Don’t be like your aunt—we couldn’t agree this morning, it fell apart over the dowry issue! She’s upset.”
