Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1175: Chapter 1175: It’s Alright if the Marriage Doesn’t Happen

”Auntie, you are mistaken,” Qin Jian firmly grasped An Hao’s hand and looked at Niu Xiuling as he spoke, ”When I came to propose, I indeed brought a dowry of two thousand, but An Hao never asked for it. Besides, the dowry was something I willingly gave, not something demanded by the An family.”

Niu Xiuling sneered, ”You were willing to give? Then why don’t you ask An Ping if he was willing to give that dowry?”

”Is that your excuse for asking for the sky?” An Hao said each word forcefully, holding back anger, ”If that’s the case, it’s better if this marriage does not happen.”

”What, what did you say? Say it again!” Liu Xiuling glared and shouted.

”I said, it’s better if this marriage does not happen!” An Hao raised her voice and repeated.

Suddenly, the air turned quiet, and everyone stood there stunned.

An Shuchao was the first to recover and quickly tried to stop An Hao, ”Daughter, what are you talking about? This is your brother’s marriage. If it falls through, An Ping will be upset when he returns.”

Niu Da also did not want the marriage to fall through, especially since the An family was highly regarded in the village for both their conditions and character.

”Daughter, don’t be mad, let’s discuss this, the dowry money...”

Before Niu Da could finish, Niu Xiuling cut him off, ”Discuss what? Discuss nothing. You’ve already been bullied before even entering the door, do you still expect your daughter to have good days after she’s married? These people value money more than life itself, no marriage, it’s over! Disperse!”

Having said that, she kicked a stool aside, turned around, and left, followed by a stream of relatives who walked out without another word.

”Ah, mother-in-law, don’t go, let’s discuss this more,” An Shuchao desperately called out.

This morning, just before An Ping left, he had entrusted the marriage negotiation to him, asking him to properly discuss and solidify the marriage arrangement.

But, not only did the discussion not succeed, it ended in discord.

An Ping would surely be upset with him upon his return.

”Dad, let them go, let them leave,” An Hao grabbed her father’s hand, preventing him from moving.

She watched as the previously noisy room quickly emptied.

The Niu family members had all left, and only then did An Hao and Qin Jian sit down.

”My good girl, my good girl, how am I supposed to explain this to your brother?” An Shuchao sighed.

”How to explain? Just explain it however it needs to be explained. Honestly, Dad, I don’t have a good feeling about this marriage,” An Hao said, clearly upset.

”You haven’t even met the girl, and you already disapprove of this marriage?” An Shuchao expressed some dissatisfaction with his daughter’s actions today.

”With parents like these, what kind of child can they raise?”

An Hao had noticed during the marriage discussion that Niu Da, who was honest and reticent, hardly spoke and showed lack of authority in the household.

Everything was dominated by Niu Xiuling; whatever she said seemed to be the final word, clearly very domineering.

An Hao feared that the girl might follow suit and could end up overwhelming An Ping, making it hard for him to stand up for himself.

From her father’s words, it was clear that An Ping was quite keen on this marriage.

The more one is actively engaged, the more they find themselves at a disadvantage.

It’s like a negotiation.

Just as everyone was quiet earlier, her father was the first to speak, which cost them the initiative.

Liu Xiuling only dared to arrogantly kick away and leave, waiting for them to approach first, and then she would demand an outrageous price.
