Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 1169: Chapter 1169: Moth to a Flame, Overestimating One’s Abilities.

When she opened the door upon arriving home, she immediately heard Ruan Fangfang’s cries, full of despair.

”Fangfang, get up, stop crying. We’ll have your uncle think of another way regarding the job,” she said.

Ruan Fangfang lifted her head, her face streaked with tears, ”I won’t, I just want to get into the affiliated hospital.”

Ma Mei looked at Ruan Fangfang’s face, distorted by crying, with some irritation, but the sight of the bruises and wounds on her forehead, inflicted by An Hao the day before, caused a dull pain in her heart.

She and Hen Zhiyuan had lost their child years ago, yet she always treated Ruan Fangfang as if she were her own daughter.

Ma Mei felt she had invested much effort in this child, but somehow she had ended up raising her this way.

Always outdone by others, her jealousy was incredibly intense.

”Aunt, did you hear me? I want to get into the affiliated hospital,” Ruan Fangfang sobbed.

”Forget about the affiliated hospital, even if you could get back in, I wouldn’t allow you to,” Ma Mei decisively rejected her request this time.

”Why?” Ruan Fangfang asked, her eyes brimming with tears as she looked at Ma Mei.

”Survival of the fittest. Without enough skill, you can’t even get in. And even if you did get in, working there is exhausting.”

She was barely keeping up with her work in cardiac surgery, and had she not been working there for over a decade, she might not even qualify to stay if assessed again.

”What should I do in the future?” Ruan Fangfang asked.

”Look for a local hospital,” Ma Mei sighed, ”Given your uncle’s condition, I’m afraid he’s not capable of helping you much further.”

Ruan Fangfang dried the tears on her face and said through clenched teeth, ”It’s all An Hao’s fault. If it weren’t for her showing up, none of this would have happened.” Ma Mei saw the hate-filled expression on Ruan Fangfang’s face and slapped her across the cheek.

Clutching her sore cheek, Ruan Fangfang looked at Ma Mei in shock, ”Aunt, why did you hit me?”

”I’m trying to knock some sense into you,” Ma Mei glared at Ruan Fangfang, enraged, ”You’re so grown up, how can you still not think before you act? Don’t you understand the situation now? Stop trying to pick a fight with An Hao; you’re just biting off more than you can chew. If you want an even worse fate, I won’t stop you.”

”Aunt...” Ruan Fangfang threw herself into Ma Mei’s arms, crying bitterly, ”I feel so tormented inside.”

”Envious of others for even the slightest success, yet you’re not exceptional yourself, and with such strong jealousy, who else is going to feel bad but you?” Ma Mei, filled with pity, stroked Ruan Fangfang’s back, ”Stop crying. I’ll ask your uncle to find you a hospital job locally; you should just go there.”

At this point, what else could Ruan Fangfang do?

She could only nod her head, resigned to her fate.

At the end of the workday, Qin Jian was already waiting for An Hao at the entrance.

Today he hadn’t driven; instead, he rode an old-fashioned bicycle.

He stood there, leaning against his bicycle, like a stunning vista that caught the attention of the young women coming for medical visits, causing them to turn around for another look.

Seeing this scene, An Hao came out with a cheerful smile, ”Comrade Staff Officer, it looks like you’re going to have to trouble yourself with taking me home again today.”

”You seem to be in a good mood today,” Qin Jian observed her from side to side, ”You don’t appear to be very tired either.”

”That’s all thanks to Ji Chuan, Director Ji. He really is a very good person,” An Hao said, her eyes filled with gratitude as she mentioned him.
