Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 188: Chapter 187: Pressing Down on the Kang to Tidy Up Properly

Song Yueqin’s father, Song Jincai, had finished cooking at home and waited left and right for Zhang Juyun to come, but she didn’t. Finally, he asked Song Yueqin and found out that his daughter-in-law had actually gone to An Hao’s house to block the door and curse.

As soon as he heard this, he hurriedly chased after her, arriving at An Hao’s doorstep panting, only to find that his wife was surrounded by people and knew something was wrong.

He rushed in, grabbed Zhang Juyun, and headed home, ”Stop causing a scene, come back with me. Whatever issues there are between An Hao and Yueqin, it’s their own business. If they fought, they’ve fought; if they caused a fuss, it’s done. What are you meddling for? You’re also an elder; does this behavior suit you?”

”Old Song, our girl is being bullied...”

Zhang Juyun hadn’t even finished speaking before Song Jincai scolded her, ”Enough! What kind of life is An Hao living? His mom’s gone, his dad’s sick, and he can’t even cope with his own family troubles, let alone bully our Yueqin. Don’t you know what your own daughter is like? Come home with me! As for paying compensation or whatever, this matter is not to be mentioned again!”

”Old Song, you think you’re tough now, huh? Did you eat the heart of a bear and the gall of a leopard? If I don’t speak, does it make you feel better about yourself?” Zhang Juyun glared at him, ready to argue.

”If you, this old woman, keep making a scene, I’ll go back and deal with you properly, believe it or not?” Song Jincai also got annoyed, grabbed her arm, and gave her a couple of slaps on the buttocks.

The couple started arguing in front of the whole village.

Their quarrel made everyone burst into laughter.

The men in the village gave Song Jincai thumbs up, ”Well done, Old Song! You handled the situation just right! Don’t make it hard for the young girl!”

”Old Song, you man! When you get home, pin your wife down on the bed and sort her out properly, she’ll definitely cool down by the next day.”

”Shut your crow’s mouths!” Zhang Juyun cursed angrily.

”Hahahaha! Old Song, it’s spring and everything is dry; even your wife is fiery! Surely it’s because you didn’t take good care of her at night, that’s why her anger flares up and causes trouble!”

The men in the village had no filter when joking, and the risqué anecdotes kept spilling out.

Song Jincai felt that his wife’s actions were too disgraceful. Listening to the villagers indirectly mocking them, he felt humiliated, gritted his teeth, picked up Song Yueqin’s mother, and headed back home.

At home, Zhang Juyun’s anger had not subsided. Just as she was about to scold Song Jincai, she heard him say, ”Juyun, you were a sent-down youth, and you came to our village from the city. Back then, I saw you as different from the village women, so sensible and educated. We’ve been married for so many years and hardly ever raised our voices at each other. But look at what you’ve become now, always mixing with the gossipy women, what have you turned into? Can you call what you did today a proper act? I’m truly ashamed for you!”

After he finished speaking, Song Jincai washed his hands, sat down, and began to eat, no longer paying any attention to Zhang Juyun.

.........

An Hao’s house was finally quiet. She sighed deeply, feeling utterly drained, slumped on the bed, and didn’t want to do anything.

The incident this afternoon had become the talk of the whole village, yet her father hadn’t come by from next door.

An Ping had left early in the morning, telling her that he might not come back at night due to the rain making the roads difficult, choosing instead to stay at a classmate’s place in town.

Facing the emptiness of her home alone, and thinking about all the things that had happened recently, she felt terrible.

When would these difficult days ever end?

With a light sigh, she closed her eyes, but the face of Qin Jian appeared in her mind. Remembering his warm palms and smile as gentle as a breeze and bright as the moon, she couldn’t help but softly call out, ”Qin Jian...”

”You’re calling me.” A magnetic voice, suddenly filled the room, startling An Hao who instantly opened her eyes.
