Sweet Nostalgia of the 80s

Chapter 185: Chapter 184 Fever

”But sometimes it’s the most direct and effective way to solve a problem!” An Hao said with an embarrassed smile, ”When conflicts escalate to an irreconcilable point, we must resort to war! That’s what history books teach us.”

Principal Lin broke into a smile, ”No wonder everyone says An Hao has a sharp tongue. I can see it’s quite true.”

Feeling embarrassed, An Hao replied, ”Principal Lin, you’re making fun of me! But I’ve also taken your teachings to heart.”

”That’s good to hear!” Principal Lin said with a satisfied smile, ”Study hard and strive to get into a good university.”

”Yes!” An Hao nodded vigorously.

......

Two classmates borrowed Shen Zhihua’s bicycle to take Song Yueqin home.

The bicycle was an old 28-inch model with one classmate sitting on the crossbar at the front and Song Yueqin on the rear carrier.

Although the rain had stopped, the sun had not come out, and gusts of cold wind blew through Song Yueqin, chilling her to the bone.

She shivered and hugged her arms, hoping to get home sooner.

After being frozen on the road for half an hour, they finally reached the entrance to the village.

Passersby who saw Song Yueqin in her state couldn’t help but laugh.

”Isn’t that the Song family’s daughter? What happened to you? Did you take a tumble in a mud pit?”

Song Yueqin felt extremely embarrassed; she buried her head low and didn’t respond.

The two classmates delivered Song Yueqin to her house and then returned to school. Zhang Juyun saw her daughter covered in mud like a little monkey and panicked at once.

”My dear ancestor! What have you gotten into? You’re soaked and covered in mud. Can these clothes even be saved? Your hair is all matted with mud.”

”Mom!” As soon as Song Yueqin opened her mouth, tears fell, ”It’s all An Hao’s doing! An Hao pushed me into a mud pit!”

”What? Why would she do that?”

”I accidentally knocked her books and snacks to the ground... she got angry...” Song Yueqin didn’t dare admit that she had instigated the incident by pushing An Hao first.

”Just for that?” Zhang Juyun still found it hard to believe, ”Aren’t you two good friends? You fell out over such a trivial matter?”

”We haven’t seen eye to eye for a long time... Mom! Am I not your daughter? I feel miserable. Can’t you heat some water so I can take a bath?” Song Yueqin didn’t want to talk about the humiliating incident anymore, and she desperately needed a bath to feel better.

Zhang Juyun boiled a large pot of water in the kitchen, scooped it into several big basins, and carried them into the room for Song Yueqin.

She stripped down to her bare skin, shivering as she took a hot bath, cleaned her hair thoroughly, and then crawled back under the covers.

Zhang Juyun took her clothes to wash, but the white blouse had been soaked in mud for too long and just wouldn’t come clean.

The blouse had been bought by Song Yueqin’s grandmother from the city and had cost a good amount of money, yet it had barely been worn twice before it was ruined.

The more Zhang Juyun looked, the more heartbroken she became, and the angrier she got as she thought about it. She threw the clothes into the basin and went inside to ask Song Yueqin for the full story.

However, when she called her daughter for quite some time, there was no response.

When she went into the room, she found Song Yueqin had already fallen asleep, her cheeks abnormally flushed.

She reached out to feel Song Yueqin’s forehead and realized her daughter had a fever!

Zhang Juyun became alarmed, quickly locked the door, and ran to the east end of the village to fetch the clinic doctor to see to Song Yueqin’s illness.

The village doctor said Song Yueqin had caught a cold and provided two fever-reducing pills, instructing Zhang Juyun to cover her up well so she would sweat it out.
