Zhang Fei - The Abandoned Son

Chapter 368: The Ten-Tailed Fox

”Have you ever heard the story behind my birth?” Zhang Xiaolong responded to the ten-tailed fox with a nod, especially since Hu Lili had told him about it. However, Oliver and the others looked confused about it, so Zefyr explained it to them. ”I didnʼt expect that you were already in a relationship with those moon foxes, kid.

Anyway, that woman is right that I was born to fulfill the wishes of all the fox races, and I was born specifically to save them from the oppression of humans as well as those stronger beasts. Thatʼs why I donʼt have my own ambitions, and I also canʼt care about other things. However, these natural races are different, and their ancestors were very close to me, so I decided to save them too.

Since the fox races were free from oppression and my presence in this realm would endanger these natural races, I decided to divide myself into two, both of whom are the ancestors of the current heavenly foxes.”

Zhang Xiaolong released a soft sigh. ”Who are the two ancestors of the heavenly fox race? Since you can leave your soul imprint in this place, you must know something about them, right?”

”They are Tian Baitian and Tian Baixing, and they should still be alive now.” The ten-tailed foxʼs answer made Zhang Xiaolong and the others raise their eyebrows. ”Baitian is a male, and Baixing is a female. However, their characters are different from what I expected, especially since both of them inherited too many of my negative traits, and they will kill you if they find out about you.

Therefore, I advise you not to go to the heavenly moon realm before you evolve to the nine-tails, or you will die in their hands because of their jealousy and greed, and this universe will never be able to find peace, especially since you are destined to be the bringer of peace for them.”

Zhang Xiaolong shook his head at the ten-tailed fox in response. ”I am also very selfish, like you and the two ancestors of the heavenly fox race.” Thatʼs why I canʼt care about this universe; I only care about the people in my circle, so Iʼm not interested in being the bringer of peace.”

Zhang Xiaolongʼs words made Oliver and the leaders of the natural races release heavy sighs within them, but none of them interrupted his conversation with the ten-tailed fox.

The ten-tailed fox smiled at Zhang Xiaolongʼs words. ”You remind me of my old self, because I also donʼt care about the fate of other living beings; I only care about the fate of the fox races. However, my meeting with the ancestors of these natural races changed several things in me, and I started to open up to them.

You may still think that way now, but you will probably meet someone important, and you will probably change someday in the future.”

”Is that one of the visions you had in the past?” The ten-tailed fox did not say anything to agree with or refute Zhang Xiaolong. ”Sigh! You are right; I am still like this now, but I myself do not know about my future, so I will leave everything to time and fate, and I might change one day, like you said just now.”

”Kid, you must always remember that there is a great responsibility behind your power, and I have always believed in my vision, so I also believe that you will succeed in bringing peace to this universe.” The ten-tailed fox suddenly touched Zhan Xiaolongʼs forehead with one of its tails.

”My time is running out, especially since I implanted this soul imprint in this statue after I exhausted my power. Even so, I can still help you with something, and you will be thrilled with my gift. Oh, anyway, I forgot something; you can only evolve to ten-tails by going to the heavenly moon realm, and you must obtain the hearts of both of my descendants.”

Before Zhang Xiaolong could ask, a bright white aura suddenly enveloped the ten-tailed foxʼs body, dazzling him and the others. However, it only lasted a few seconds, and the white aura immediately disappeared, as did the ten-tailed foxʼs soul imprint.

[Ding]

[The host gains a small portion of the ten-tailed foxʼs soul power.]

[Ding]

[The host soul level increases to the early stage of the soul foundation level.]

*Crack... Crack...*

The cracking sound shocked the leaders of the natural races, and they were even more shocked to see the ten-tailed foxʼs statue crumble to pieces, including the monument below it.

Meanwhile, Zhang Xiaolong stood frozen in his spot, and his expression looked shocked as he thought about the last sentence of the ten-tailed fox. ʼThat means I have to kill both of the heavenly fox raceʼs ancestors in order to evolve into the ten-tails, right, Mei?ʼ

[Yes, Master.] Mei herself was also shocked by the revelation of the ten-tailed fox, and she never imagined that her master would need such conditions in order for him to evolve into the ten tails.

[Anyway, you donʼt need to think about that right now, especially since they live in the upper realms and are too powerful for the current you, so it would be much better if you focused on everything in front of you, master.]

ʼYeah, youʼre right; I have to take it one step at a time.ʼ Zhang Xiaolong then turned his attention to Oliver and the others, who were still in a daze following the destruction of the ten-tailed foxʼs statue, causing him to smile bitterly. ”It looks like you have to rebuild both of them.”

”No need.” Oliver replied while standing up, as did Elmyra and the others. ”We are now certain that you are the ten-tailed foxʼs successor, and since part of its soul has merged with yours, we no longer need its statue.

”This way, you are the leader of our natural races.” Zhang Xiaolong turned to Elmyra with a raised eyebrow, so she immediately provided an explanation to him. ”As the ten-tailed fox told you just now, it saved our races from extinction because humans kept hunting us in the past.

Since then, our ancestors have sworn that the ten-tailed foxʼs successor will be our leader, and you are its successor, so you are our leaders now.”

”I can attest to the truth of Elmyraʼs words.” Sabina said before moving in front of Zhang Xiaolong, and she immediately touched his forehead, sharing quite a lot of her memories, which she inherited from her ancestors. ”You can see everything yourself, so you will know that her words are true.”

Zhang Xiaolong first looked at Sabinaʼs memories, and he didnʼt expect that they were memories from such a distant past, where her ancestors, as well as the other ancestors of the natural races, swore allegiance to the ten-tailed fox. ”All right, I believe that. However, I have no interest in becoming a leader, so I will not accept it. Instead, all of you will be my family, like Zefyr.

Wouldnʼt that be better for all of us?”

”Hahaha.” Zefyr suddenly laughed, floated towards Zhang Xiaolong, and sat on his shoulder as usual. ”Grandpas! Aunts! Heʼs always been like this, and he doesnʼt like that kind of thing. Usually, his women, like Liu Hua and Shen Xueyi, take care of things for him.

Moreover, I donʼt think itʼs a big deal whether he becomes our leader or our family; you guys can still help him, so you guys should just accept his decision.”

Oliver and the others exchange glances for a moment before nodding to each other. ”Youʼre right, Zefyr. No matter what our relationship is, we will continue to support Zhang Fei, so itʼs not a problem for us.”

Zhang Xiaolong then spoke to them. ”Actually, I still want to talk to all of you, but I think we can do it another time, especially since I donʼt have much time right now due to those heretics constant movements. Moreover, their ancestors will probably come out soon, so I want to focus on increasing my strength, and Iʼll do seclusion in another region while keeping an eye on them.

As for Zefyr, I will send her to a special place to train, so she wonʼt be back anytime soon.”

”Speaking of those heretics, Iʼm still confused as to why Pand De is chasing you, so I hope you can tell us the truth, and we will help you as best we can.” Zhang Xiaolong nodded to Elmyra and explained to them in as much detail as possible, including about the demon who possessed Mo Xuanqing.

Additionally, he informed them about their alliance with the moon fox race, which caused their expressions to become serious. ”In that case, you can enter seclusion and focus on your cultivation, so you will be ready to face them, and we will go out to help you secure all four regions.”

”Thank you.” Zhang Xiaolong replied sincerely, especially because the power of those heretics is much stronger than they imagined, so they need more reinforcements, and the help of the natural races will be of great help to them. ”I will take Zefyr away right now, and I will come back here after Lillea has managed to persuade her kin to move to this realm.”

After Zhang Xiaolong brought Zefyr out of their sight, Gravir immediately asked the others. ”So, who among us will go outside to secure those regions?”

”I will protect this region, especially since there are so many forests in it, so I can rely on them to monitor those heretics.” Sabina was the first to volunteer herself.

Persix also volunteers himself. ”This region is also my best area, so I will join Sabina to protect it.”

”I will go to the eastern region, especially since most of the area is desert.” Tanbar then turned to Gravir. ”Donʼt you have a good relationship with the Jinshu Gang? How about you join me and go there now?”

”All right, I will go to that region with you.” Gravir immediately agreed after hearing the name Gang Jinshu.

”Since the other leaders are still in their seclusion, I will go to the southern region by myself.” Elmyra then spoke to Oliver. ”You are our leader, so you should stay in our sub-realm to control the situation, and you can tell the others to help us once they finish their seclusion.

Anyway, Zuhe, the undine leader, should be coming out soon, so you can ask her to go to the central region, especially since the most powerful cultivators in that region are in the demon cave.”

”All right, you guys can leave now, and I will arrange everything once they come out of their seclusion.” After that, they all left the fairy forest, and Oliver looked into the distance before letting out a heavy sigh. ”Fortunately, Zhang Fei is truly the ten-tailed foxʼs successor, and I believe that he can bring peace to all races, be they natural races, humans, demons, and beast races.”

After they arrived at the Chu Clan, Zhang Xiaolong immediately sent Zefyr into the training space to continue her training, and he also contacted Liu Qingyu to tell her that he had eliminated Pang De with the help of the natural races, so they could leave the heavenly sword sect.

Mei suddenly informed Zhang Xiaolong. [Master, I detected two auras that match your beast aura, so Iʼm sure their owners are heavenly foxes like you.]

Zhang Xiaolong opened his map to search for the whereabouts of the two heavenly foxes, and he found that they were in a small town a little far from Heavenly Sword City, so he immediately used his Nine Cloud Steps to check on them.

Upon arriving at the city, Zhang Xiaolong immediately landed on a large tree branch before activating his invisibility, and he watched the two from a distance. ʼScan them, Mei.ʼ

[Yes.]

Zhang Xiaolongʼs expression turned serious after he read their status. ʼTheir cultivation is in the heaven realm, huh? Since my bloodline will be useless against them, and their light elements might also counteract my demon abilities, I have to be very careful of them. Otherwise, they will capture me, and if they bring me into their realm, my situation will worsen.ʼ

Zhang Xiaolong once again contacted Liu Qingyu, and he asked her to bring Zhang Chen and the others to the Chu Clan, especially since the two heavenly foxesʼ cultivation was only at the Heaven Realm and the formation in the clan should be able to withstand their attacks.

In addition, he also asked her to order the members of the demon fox group to spread other news about him, and he hoped that the two of them would leave the western region immediately after hearing it.

[Are you really going to lure them to the northern region, master?]

ʼYes.ʼ Zhang Fei answered Mei with a nod. ʼThe demons possessing Mo Xuanqing will probably be aware of their presence in that region, so she can help me get rid of them. Even so, I cannot let Tian Gongzhu die, especially since she will be useful to me, so you must keep an eye on them.ʼ

[Yes, leave them to me, and I will keep an eye on them.]

A while later, Zhang Xiaolong had already arrived at his hideout in the Northern Region, and he immediately sat down cross-legged in his usual spot. ʼMei, how much female essence do I need to upgrade my demon body double to levels four and five?ʼ

[Master, you need three hundred thousand female essences to upgrade to level four, and you have more than four hundred thousand now, so you can upgrade it if you want. For level five, you need one million female essences, so it will take a very long time.]

Hearing that, Zhang Xiaolong immediately made a decision. ”I want you to upgrade it now, so he can focus on cultivating in the training space. Besides, I can use my fourth clone to learn a lot of things, so my fighting ability can be further improved.ʼ

[Alrighty.]

{The demon body double has upgraded to level four.}

{300,000 female essences have been deducted from your balance.}
