Chapter 181: On the borders of the Forbidden Zone

After the ”Reset” of the Forest of Doppelgangers, which appeared closest to the second city of Limbo, the first to reach its borders were the adventurers from that city.

A lot of people gathered, both locals and outriders. Everyone was interested to see someone who could pass the trial.

At first, no one dared to cross the boundary of the outer layer and enter the forest. But as soon as the first people set foot on its territory and did not encounter any problems, the crowd rushed inside.

Soon, a high elf riding on a huge bird approached the border of the outer layer. She had a birdʼs-eye view of the Forest of Doppelgangers and recalled her attempts to pass the trial of this Forbidden Zone.

Descending to the ground and sending the flying bird back, the elf stepped into the forest.

A few minutes after the elf disappeared into the dense greenery, a blonde-haired woman with two pairs of wings that seemed to be made of light approached the borders of the outer layer of the forest. They shone brightly, illuminating the evening sky.

The woman wanted to fly all the way, but an invisible force forced her to descend to the ground and remove her shining wings.

The beautiful woman frowned, but obeying the local rules, she entered the forest on her own two feet.

These two, of course, were Milica and Lucinda, who had reached the Forest of Doppelgangers with small gaps in time.

Suddenly, the doppelgangers stopped the crowd at the border of the outer and middle layers.

Everyone, without exception, was warned that this was a Forbidden Zone, a private area, and entry into the middle layer was strictly prohibited.

Hearing this, the locals immediately became sad and, unlike outsiders, did not continue their journey. They stopped at the border and silently watched the actions of those who did not want or did not listen to the warnings.

Many outsiders rushed forward into the middle layer, ignoring the prohibitions. The doppelgangers who relayed Geminiaʼs messages did not stop the intruders. There was a big smile on their faces as one by one the outsiders began to move deeper into the middle layer.

Not all outsiders dared to enter the middle layer of the Forbidden Zone. Some of them decided to trust their instincts and stayed put, waiting for what measures the Zone would take against intruders.

As time passed, those who did not enter began to think that nothing would happen. But suddenly, wild beasts began to appear from the forest, dragging strangers beaten unconscious on their teeth. Each beast threw the wounded one out of the middle layer without worrying about their safety.

The warnings were heeded, and they violated the boundaries of the private territory.

Miliсa had already reached here by this time and, standing among the locals, watched what was happening. Lucinda was standing not far from her, who soon caught up with her.

They noticed each other.

Both of them immediately felt each otherʼs strength and frowned. They didnʼt recognize each other. Lucinda tried to remember the powerful elves she knew, including Milica, whom the Hero was trying to court.

However, she hadnʼt met Milica at the time, so she didnʼt know what she looked like. In addition, according to her information, Milica could not leave the third city. Because of this, Lucinda hadnʼt even considered the possibility that this elf might be the leader of the outsiders from the third city.

As for Milica, by the time Lucinda got into Limbo, she was already tied to the third city, so she didnʼt see Lucinda either. However, she had heard of a priestess living in the first city who supported the Hero.

At the moment, Milica wasnʼt sure if this woman was a priestess or not.

Seeing the interest from the stranger, Lucinda decided to establish contact with her and start a conversation.

Greeting her with a slight nod, Lucinda asked:

— Are you also here to find out who passed the trial?

Milica, having heard Lucindaʼs question, did not immediately answer. She looked around, but saw no one she could identify as familiar. Then, turning back to Lucinda, she spoke briefly.:

- No.

This short answer surprised Lucinda. She frowned slightly, but at that moment, the crowd made a noise, distracting their attention.

Suddenly, an unknown woman appeared in front of Milica and Lucinda. She looked at Milica with adoration, without taking her eyes off. After staring at her intently, she pointed at Milica and started repeating the same word, attracting the attention of everyone around.

”Itʼs her! Itʼs her!” the woman kept repeating.

Milica and Lucinda were at a loss.: Whatʼs going on and who is this woman? Some of the crowd looked at Milica and the woman in surprise, who kept pointing at her and repeating, ”Itʼs her!”

In fact, this woman was a ”Perfect Doppelganger” who recognized in Milica one of the forms that their ancestor, Geminia, took. Thatʼs why the Doppelganger was able to spot the Milica from the crowd.

Soon, other people began to come out of the forest of the middle layer, who, like the stranger, looked at Milica with admiration. Only then did the crowd realize that these were the Doppelgangers of the Forbidden Zone.

Everyone, without exception, fearing them, moved away from the crowd of Doppelgangers, who by that time had surrounded Milica and Lucinda.

Milica was a little embarrassed by the attention, and Lucinda didnʼt understand what was going on or who this Elf was at all. But then one of the Doppelgangers pointed at her and exclaimed:

”Ah, itʼs a blonde bitch!”

”Ah?” The other Doppelgangers looked at Lucinda.

And, recognizing her, they all began to repeat in unison:

”Blonde bitch!”

”Blonde bitch!”

The chorus made Lucindaʼs right eye twitch, and rage began to flare up in her. By this point, she had already begun to suspect who had passed the trial.

Only the dirty-mouthed Water Valkyrie openly called her a ”bitch.” And the fact that all these Doppelgangers called her that was most likely her doing.

Lucinda wanted to find Esma and rip her mouth out.

”Pfft, — Milica could barely contain her laughter, looking at the blonde beauty, who was ready to explode by this moment.

And just when everyone thought that something incredible was about to happen, Milica and Lucinda heard an unfamiliar voice in their head.:

”Come on in! They are waiting for you in the central layer!”

At the same time, the Doppelgangers abruptly fell silent, and everyone, without exception, cringed.

Milica and Lucinda looked at each other, and both immediately realized from the expression on the otherʼs face that the other had also heard that voice.

The doppelgangers parted, opening the way for them to the middle layer.

Milica and Lucinda crossed the border of the middle layer without stopping and went to the central layer together.
