Chapter 893: Chapter 137: The Bond of the Immortals (4)

Falling in love is a very happy thing.

Tu Shenyi also learned her name, Karen.

But even after the most intimate actions, Tu Shenyi still found Karen very mysterious. She would always appear after dinner, then leave before dawn, like Cinderella wearing glass slippers.

However, in a modern city, even nighttime is colorful. They would do all sorts of things that all couples in the world could think of.

There would be passion, and there would be warmth.

Tu Shenyi was not stupid; he knew that this woman who suddenly entered his life had her own secrets. He tried to probe, but found nothing, and later abandoned the idea of making a thorough investigation.

Because he had a feeling that once Karen’s secret was exposed, this romance might come to an end.

He knew that, and he knew she knew that too, so both adhered to the unspoken rule of not touching upon this sensitive matter, as if the romance itself was a secret.

Because mystery always manages to maintain a unique allure, making it irresistible — at least, young Tu Shenyi knew he was already falling for it.

“Not staying a little longer?”

In the park — a sparsely populated park at night, a man and woman seeking thrill just spent an intense moment in a simple cabin by the park’s little lake.

He noticed Karen standing by the window, gazing at the lakeside. A thin layer of ice had formed on the lake, like a white plain.

Karen was only wearing a thin shirt, seemingly unfazed by the cold. Tu Shenyi hugged her tightly from behind and kissed her cheek, saying, “Your body is really so cold.”

Karen merely smiled slightly, without speaking.

“Something on your mind?”

Tu Shenyi said with concern, “Do you know that when women think about others, they usually show expressions like yours: grief, distraction, and a bit of desolation.”

“Do you care about that?” Karen suddenly asked.

Tu Shenyi shrugged, smiling, “Could you tell me about them, what kind of person they are.”

Karen shook her head, saying, “Don’t worry, your rival is no longer in this world.”

“That’s even worse.” Tu Shenyi sighed at this moment, “Only memories are something I can’t defeat.”

Karen took Tu Shenyi’s hand, lightly kissed it, then continued looking out the window, “Painter, he was a painter for a while, then switched careers.”

Tu Shenyi nodded, saying, “A painter sounds nice.”

Karen said, “Back then, his life was quite poor; painting couldn’t sustain him. So he had to do odd jobs for others. While picking cotton for the farm owner, he fulfilled his role as a painter. I met him the day he finished work and set up a booth on the street to do sketches for people.”

“Then his art must have been great to move you.” Tu Shenyi sighed.

“No, his skill wasn’t actually good. Even trying hard, his paintings were not very good.”

“So he eventually changed careers because he lacked talent?”

Karen shook her head, saying, “No. He wanted to be a great painter, but destiny played a trick on him; his hands started trembling uncontrollably. He said the damned farm owner made him pick cotton every day, so he particularly hated the Jewish farm owner… He never could pick up a paintbrush again and had to give up being a painter.”

Tu Shenyi chuckled bitterly, “I guess I kind of understand his feelings back then. Like me, a winemaker who lost his sense of taste, and him, a painter whose hands tremble. Then… how did you part ways?”

Karen said, “Later, he joined the army, and I… actually, I couldn’t stay in one place for too long, so I left.”

“But you’ve kept following his news, right?” Tu Shenyi said.

“Why do you say that?” Karen lifted her head,

“Otherwise, how would you know he’s no longer in the world.”

Karen said, “He became quite famous afterward. After joining the army, he rose through the ranks, becoming a big figure with his own lover… Reports in the newspapers made it hard not to know. However…”

Karen suddenly lowered her head, played with Tu Shenyi’s fingers, “I didn’t expect that when I met him again, he’d already reached the end of his life. He defeated the war, becoming a common enemy branded a sinner. He couldn’t fulfill his ideal; when the enemy broke through his stronghold, he could’ve escaped, but chose to shoot himself. However, he left me one thing.”

“Beautiful memories?” Tu Shenyi was a romantic.

“A painting.”

Karen nodded, saying, “He said he’d make me a painting, the most beautiful in the world… I found it buried in rubble in the innermost part of the basement in his home. The painting depicted me sitting quietly by the window, holding a white cat in my arms… Honestly, I’ve been mesmerized by the painted version of myself too.”

She said this with a smile, as if mocking her own vanity, and Tu Shenyi couldn’t help but kiss her… because she was truly beautiful when she smiled.

“He couldn’t paint anymore, yet he still made a painting for me, most likely painting it bit by bit, over many years.” Tu Shenyi sighed at this moment, “His heart probably never forgot about you… If there’s a chance, may I see that painting?”

“If there’s a chance.” Karen nodded.

Tu Shenyi said, “But I didn’t expect your ex was a big figure… Stirring up a war, and it’s hard to guess, right? After all, there’ve been no major wars in modern times… Why don’t you just tell me his name?”

“Do you really want to know?” Karen turned around, suddenly seriously looked at Tu Shenyi.

He was startled by her seriousness, subconsciously nodded.

Karen slowly said, “Adolf.”

Tu Shenyi paused, then burst into laughter, shaking his head, and finally breathed a sigh, implying helplessness, “So from the start, I’ve been listening to a fictional story, right?”

Karen blinked, smiling slightly, “Believe it or not.”

Tu Shenyi only lowered his head to kiss her.

Bang——!

…

Suddenly, the glass in front shattered, and a bullet directly shot into the cabin’s floor, immediately cooling Tu Shenyi’s passionate emotions, causing him to frown.

Without hesitation, he hugged Karen and lunged to the floor. But at this moment, bullets kept penetrating from outside, and the fragile wooden walls couldn’t withstand the bullets’ destruction. It wasn’t long before seven bullets had come through.

“Don’t be afraid, I’ll protect you,” Tu Shenyi said, holding Karen tightly and comforting her in a low voice.

“Who are the people outside?” Karen frowned slightly.

Tu Shenyi peeked out of the window, but a bullet hit the window frame immediately, forcing him to quickly retract his head. Panting, he said, “I’m afraid it’s the people chasing after me.”

Karen showed an inquisitive look.

Tu Shenyi had no choice but to say, “A while back, I had a gamble with some people. The other party isn’t a good person, and I didn’t agree to his terms, so I’m being hunted down… I originally planned to stay here a bit longer, but didn’t expect to be tracked down so quickly.”

Karen stared at the bullet on the floor, frowned, and bowed her head silently, lost in thought.

Tu Shenyi then suggested, “Come, let’s get out of here. Staying here is a dead end. The forest outside can provide us with good cover… Afterwards, I’ll leave here and won’t involve you.”

Before Karen could speak, Tu Shenyi pulled her to her feet and hurriedly escaped the small cabin, heading towards the forest ahead.

At that moment, three shadows swiftly approached through the night.

The speed of these three shadows running through the night was exceptionally swift, and in just a moment, they caught up… In the snow-covered forest, Tu Shenyi felt the low temperature causing his limbs to become unresponsive, and vigorous running made breathing difficult.

However, at this moment, a sudden loud noise came from ahead, instantly blasting a withered tree on the ground. The explosive blast stirred up a lot of sand and stones.

Tu Shenyi’s body was suddenly lifted by the blast and thrown to the ground. He quickly climbed back up, anxiously asking, “Karen, are you alright?”

He looked over eagerly, only to see Karen standing unharmed, and instinctively sighed with relief.

But at this moment, the three shadows chasing them had already appeared in front of Tu Shenyi—the power of the explosion was not only immense but also set the fallen deadwood ablaze.

The firelight allowed Tu Shenyi to see the appearance of the three killers—he found their attire rather peculiar, or rather, unconventional.

One was a priest in a black priest’s robe, another was dressed like a mountain hunter, holding an unusually large shotgun in his hands, and the last one had a face full of strange tattoos, making it impossible to clearly see his appearance.

Tu Shenyi glanced at the fire behind him, then at the encircling threesome, then dusted the snow and mud off his body, and sneered, “What an extravagant show! If I had known your boss was so petty, I wouldn’t have agreed to his gambling game… OK, I accept his conditions, I’ll work for him… Is this enough?”

If he were alone, Tu Shenyi might have tangled with the three killers, but with Karen by his side… he didn’t want nor was willing to let this woman suffer any harm.

“Get lost!”

But the guy holding the peculiar big shotgun shot towards Tu Shenyi’s feet with a swoosh.

The bullet instantly created a not too big pit at Tu Shenyi’s feet, causing him to retreat a few steps in panic, “You guys…”

In that instant, Tu Shenyi was a bit dumbfounded.

However, the guy in the black priest’s robe said, “Sir, you’re in great danger now. If you don’t want to die, I suggest you leave this place as soon as possible.”

Tu Shenyi frowned, suddenly realizing something—the killers, or rather these three guys, seemed to never have their eyes on him, but… Karen!

“These are exorcists, they’re here for me.”

Karen’s voice came softly from behind Tu Shenyi. When Tu looked back suddenly, he saw Karen, standing in the snow wearing only a thin shirt, slowly manifesting a Patterned Blood-Colored Longsword from her palm. In the crimson glow of blood and fire, she looked like a blooming blood lotus… exceptionally enchantingly beautiful.

“Poor guy, still doesn’t know he’s become prey to this bloodsucker,” the tattooed man sneered coldly.

“You talk too much!” Karen bared her fangs and swung her sword, leaping high to strike down the tattooed man!

…

…

The leaping strike is a very imposing attack, and Karen Yisheer’s leaping strike quickly slashed the tongue shot out by the ‘ugly monster’ into several pieces.

However, this only enraged the monster, and in an instant, dozens of tentacles shot out from its massive body! They were as hard as steel, stabbing towards Karen Yisheer together.

She swung her sword to meet the attack, her body seeming to press the fast-forward button, with her movement and longsword swinging speed increasing dramatically to the point of overwhelming, slicing into the hard tentacles one after another.

“Save me!!!!!!”

The monstrous Jinguo City’s horrified face became even more hideous, roaring out with boundless resentment. At the same time, more hard tentacles shot out from the monster’s body again—this time, these tentacles fused together, forming a huge pillar.

Karen Yisheer was instinctually startled, but was struck directly by this giant ‘pillar.’

Her body was sent crashing through several walls before finally falling under the rubble, while the Blood-colored Longsword was dropped nearby.

She spat out a few mouthfuls of blood but faintly heard a low exclamation nearby… Karen Yisheer strained to open her eyes and saw familiar and known people.

She saw Queen Elizabeth, she saw Zhong Luoyue who she had spoken to once, and she also saw the young man who won a game of chess against her with a bit of cleverness.

Yes, in such an embarrassing entrance.

“It really is you, Miss Karen,” Queen Elizabeth exclaimed with surprise.

“Go quickly…” Karen Yisheer replied weakly.

At this moment, Luo Qiu picked up the Patterned Blood-Colored Longsword from the ground, raised it in his hand and marveled, “Such a unique craftsmanship, truly beautiful.”

Karen Yisheer was taken aback, but saw ahead, the terrifying tentacles of the monster, like giant steel needles, now stabbing through the many shattered walls.

“Danger!”

Just then, Luo Qiu casually waved the Patterned Blood-Colored Longsword in hand, and the numerous pointed tentacles stopped before they could reach, as if frozen.

Then, they began to shatter inch by inch, and the shattering… continued to spread.
