Chapter 851: Chapter 95: The Devil’s Deal (Part 1)

At the moment when the model component suddenly slipped from the hand of Dr. Ferenc, everything seemed to come to a standstill.

It was as if it had suddenly turned gray, a color without temperature, or like the instant after an explosion, all sounds were drowned out.

Dr. Ferenc slowly fell to the ground, as if weightless.

The world slowed, his body staggered, and finally lay on the ground, the impact made his cheeks tremble slightly, and at this moment Mr. Ofi reached out his hand but couldn’t catch him.

“Dad!”

“Doctor!!”

The crowd shouted, like a tidal wave, and everything became dazzling again. The lights in the research lab were bright as daylight, radiant, akin to the sun.

Dr. Ferenc looked at the light above his head, a circle of radiance spread within his pupils, and a slight smile appeared at the corner of his mouth.

He slowly closed his eyes.

…

They were unwilling to let Dr. Ferenc’s life perish, attempting to rescue him until the very last moment.

City traffic once again became congested, but a road leading to the hospital was exceptionally smooth.

Outside the operating room, not only Mr. Ofi was there, but also the director of the research institute and a group of anxious researchers. Before long, one of Dr. Ferenc’s old friends, Matthew, the director of the science museum, also rushed over upon hearing the news.

The relationship between Director Matthew and Dr. Ferenc was far more intimate than that with the director of the research institute. Matthew was truly Ferenc’s close friend.

He came to Mr. Ofi, silently embraced him, and firmly patted Mr. Ofi’s shoulder to give the comfort that an elder can provide.

“I didn’t expect something like this to happen.”

Matthew sighed deeply in front of Mr. Ofi, “That day… it wasn’t even long ago that he brought little Louis to visit me. I promised him to talk again with Mr. Billy, how could he just collapse now? I hadn’t yet convinced Billy… how could he just fall now?”

Mr. Ofi didn’t say anything, his mind full of the fleeting smile after Dr. Ferenc fell, feeling calmer than anyone else.

Looking at the crowded corridor full of people, Mr. Ofi silently walked to a corner and lit a cigarette—the cigarette was taken from someone else, for Mr. Ofi had actually quit smoking for a long time.

He realized it was initially his naive request that led Dr. Ferenc onto this endless road.

Yet the doctor continued forward… perhaps, initially, it was only for a child’s casual words, but as more like-minded researchers appeared along this road, perhaps his persistence was no longer just for a promise to a child.

He later bore more, the lives of the whole team.

Mr. Ofi suddenly recalled hearing somewhere a saying: No human history change is a pastoral poem, it comes with tears and pain.

“How foolish…” Mr. Ofi murmured.

Speaking of himself, speaking of Dr. Ferenc, speaking of those who fought at the forefront.

“Sir…” Bara didn’t know when she arrived at the hospital and brought Louis. She looked fearfully at Mr. Ofi, mustering up the courage to say, “I think… I should have brought Louis.”

Mr. Ofi glanced at his son. Perhaps the child hadn’t yet understood what happened and just looked at the surrounding environment in unprecedented fear.

Mr. Ofi reached out to soothe Louis’s head, and the child lunged at Mr. Ofi, gripping his clothes tightly.

After a long wait, the lights in the operating room suddenly dimmed, and with the opening of the door, the chief neurosurgeon, also the attending physician of this consultation, slowly walked out.

The attending physician removed his mask and shook his head toward Mr. Ofi, who was there as family, with a face full of sorrow—even those who were mentally prepared felt this verdict was a joke.

The director and Director Matthew both looked up, naturally not as though relieved, but suddenly felt something missing from life.

Bara immediately covered her mouth, unable to stop her tears. She had worked for this family for several years, feeling much deeper than others.

Louis nestled his head against Mr. Ofi, constantly unwilling to lift it.

Yet Mr. Ofi suddenly patted Louis’s shoulder, “Child, don’t you want to say goodbye to your grandfather?”

Little Louis raised his head, looking at Mr. Ofi’s face with a smile—this was the most unsightly smile he had ever seen on his father’s face.

He didn’t know how to describe it, just felt this smile like a white paper with nothing on it.

The hospital soon announced the time of death… the patient passed away, aside from the patient’s family, it was no longer anyone else’s business.

Some researchers began to leave quietly under the director’s arrangement.

And the director stayed till late at night and finally left with Director Matthew from the science museum, agreeing to find a quiet place to sit for a while.

They went drinking.

They said it had been a long time since they drank with Ferenc, said to go to Ferenc’s favorite bar, said it must still be open, said they would drink enough for three tonight, said Ferenc just left them like this.

Saying and saying.

…

A white bed, a white bed cover sheet, with no fluctuation in the body covered by the sheet.

In the room where the doctor’s body was placed, Mr. Ofi stood silently, while little Louis leaned against him, occasionally sobbing.

Perhaps it was just a dream, an illusion, perhaps the next moment the body under the sheet would suddenly start to breathe… Mr. Ofi thought so.

No one came to disturb Mr. Ofi and Louis’s farewell to Dr. Ferenc—after a long time, little Louis fell asleep because he was too tired; he was just a child.

“Sir, my condolences.” Bara took Louis from Mr. Ofi.

Mr. Ofi sighed heavily and then instructed the waiting secretary outside, “Send Bara and Louis home, I still want to stay here for a little longer.”

This time the secretary didn’t forcibly stop anything, just nodded, “Sir, I’ll come back to pick you up after sending Miss Bara and Louis.”

Mr. Ofi nodded, waved them away.

He sat alone outside the mortuary, rubbing his cheeks… It was very quiet all around, not even a single pedestrian in the corridor, a completely quiet world.

It should have been arranged by the secretary to seal off the corridor, preventing any idle people from intruding… Although there was a hint of abusing authority, at this moment, Mr. Ofi was neither angry nor did he think it was good… He simply didn’t want to think too much.

Behind a door was a world of death, and within this world, Dr. Ferenc might be drifting away… Mr. Ofi leaned his head against the wall, staring unfocusedly at the lights on the corridor ceiling.

“Hmm… I smell the scent of death.”

Suddenly, a deep man’s voice echoed in the corridor—accompanied by the rhythmic sound of heels striking the floor.

Because of the silence, this voice was very clear, pulling Mr. Ofi from his empty thoughts back to reality.

Mr. Ofi saw a peculiar fellow: wearing a ubiquitous carnival mask on his face, dressed in strange attire, somewhat resembling a modified white robe that bishops would wear during important ceremonies.

This man with the carnival mask slowly walked up to Mr. Ofi, with his hands clasped behind his back, exuding a bit of a mysterious aura.

This caused Mr. Ofi to instinctively frown, “Who are you?”

As soon as he spoke, Mr. Ofi was stirred, suddenly remembering something his secretary had mentioned to him—a video of someone who treated the injured Mr. Besong.

“I smell the scent of death…” The voice behind the carnival mask grew deeper, “But, I can drive away death.”

“Playing tricks.” Mr. Ofi glared at this guy in front of him, swiftly picking up the phone.

But before the call connected, Mr. Ofi’s phone was quickly taken away—it should be said, it was snatched from his hand.

The person who did it was not the guy with the carnival mask in front of him, but another man who had somehow approached beside him.

This man was wearing a long gray-black robe with a hood, dressed like a male wizard who stepped out of a fairy tale—this guy, after snatching Mr. Ofi’s phone, quickly turned it off.

“What do you want to do!” Mr. Ofi suddenly stood up.

And at that moment, more people in gray-black robes, covering their faces, appeared in front of Mr. Ofi.

Among them, someone placed their hands on Mr. Ofi’s shoulders and sat him down.

“Help! He…”

In an instant, Mr. Ofi’s mouth was covered by these bizarrely dressed fellows—it was even difficult for him to struggle.

The man with the carnival mask then slowly pressed his hand against Mr. Ofi’s forehead, calmly saying: “Foolish sinner, I forgive you.”

A faint white light spread from his palm, imprinting on Mr. Ofi’s forehead—accompanying this glimmer, the surrounding ‘Wizards’ whispered softly.

Voices of awe, voices of praise.

At this moment, Mr. Ofi felt terrible—because he had seen too many frenzied and irrational religious fanatics… These guys were obviously ‘believers’ within some religious organization.

But what made Mr. Ofi feel even worse was not just that.

He felt extraordinarily good at that moment, unprecedentedly spirited, as if the melancholy in his heart was instantly dispelled, even becoming invigorated… just like after attending a ball, feeling joyful.

But this was obviously abnormal.

“You…”

“I said, I can drive away death. Also, I can take away sorrow.”

As he spoke, the man with the carnival mask turned and walked towards the door of the mortuary, with two ‘male wizards’ beside him opening the door for him.

Mr. Ofi only heard this mysterious guy slowly say: “I know you have many doubts, but it doesn’t matter, I will use a miracle to eliminate all the doubts in your heart, letting you see the real transcendent light, and understand what a great miracle life is.”

“What are you trying to do!!” Mr. Ofi became anxious… How did these people enter, silently?

Mr. Ofi’s body was suddenly lifted by the ‘Wizards’ and brought into the mortuary, all the ‘Wizards’ entering as well.

In front of Dr. Ferenc’s bed, the ‘Wizards’ gathered circle after circle, the mysterious carnival masked man standing at the head of the bed, while Mr. Ofi was still restrained by several ‘Wizards’.

Seeing the astonished and uncertain look on Mr. Ofi’s face, the carnival masked man seemed very satisfied. He nodded and then unveiled the sheet covering Dr. Ferenc’s head, revealing the doctor’s pale face.

“You are desecrating the dead! You’re breaking the law!” Mr. Ofi struggled madly, but the strength of those restraining him was exceptionally strong.

The man with the carnival mask… Bucky glanced at Mr. Ofi again, without speaking, quietly lowered his head, and glanced at his palm.

A note slipped from his sleeve into Bucky’s palm, he glanced at it, cleared his throat, and then said in a deep voice: “Ah… Such a noble soul, yet your life is so fragile…”

Saying this, Bucky paused for a moment, then quietly glanced at his palm’s note again, continuing: “…Lost lamb, I will lead you to a new world, give you a new life, grant you precious time…”

One by one, Mr. Ofi listened to this mysterious person incessantly reciting those strange words… yet for some unknown reason, he quieted down.

What was unimaginable for Mr. Ofi was that at this moment, he surprisingly had a faint, absurd expectation in his heart.

“Ferenc! Feel the glory of my God, and then return to this world as the servant of my God!”

Suddenly, Bucky shouted, raising both hands high, then shaking them abruptly, finally pressing them on Dr. Ferenc’s chest vigorously.

Instantly, white light surged in the mortuary.

At this moment, those dressed as ‘Wizards’ around, all knelt to the ground, worshipping Bucky… No one was restraining Mr. Ofi anymore; they were all shaken by this scene.

Mr. Ofi, with a horrified and pale expression, slowly walked to the bed, looking at Dr. Ferenc’s face… He opened his mouth suddenly, only to see Dr. Ferenc’s eyelids twitch suddenly.

Then it was the doctor’s fingers, moving slightly.

Mr. Ofi incredulously stepped to the other side of the sickbed, looking at the mysterious carnival masked man opposite, then at the increasingly rosy complexion of Dr. Ferenc.

Finally, when Dr. Ferenc suddenly opened his eyes, Mr. Ofi lost his composure.

“Ofi… where is this…”

Returned from the dead, right before his eyes.
