Chapter 822: Chapter 66: Family

Although power has been restored and communication is back, Louis is still staying home due to the weekend following Friday.

Bara has prepared breakfast and is inviting Dr. Ferenc and his grandson Louis to eat.

She poured milk for both of them and then asked, “Doctor, are you feeling better?”

Dr. Ferenc rubbed his waist, smiled, and said, “It’s nothing, just a bump.”

Bara patted her chest, “That’s good. I saw the news about a gunfight at last night’s memorial. Several were unfortunately shot, and while there was no danger to life, it’s an unwarranted disaster! Doctor, you were really lucky.”

She still remembered Dr. Ferenc walking home last night, supporting his waist—it was really just a false alarm.

“What’s the matter?” Dr. Ferenc opened the newspaper and said while reading, “Just bumped by some people trying to escape—you’re too nervous.”

Bara shook her head and then remembered something, “By the way, Doctor, half an hour ago I received a call from Mr. Ofi. He said he was on his way home and wanted to talk to you, hoping you’d wait for him.”

Dr. Ferenc frowned, glanced at Louis who was quietly eating with his head down, and said somewhat displeased, “Did he not come home all night?”

“Mr. said it was urgent.”

Dr. Ferenc snorted lightly and said no more.

Soon after, Mr. Ofi returned home. He instructed Bara to take Louis out to play in the yard and then called Dr. Ferenc into the study.

Mr. Ofi didn’t talk; he paced back and forth in the study, but never took his eyes off Dr. Ferenc—it was like a parent looking at a wrong-doing child, so angry that he couldn’t speak.

“Just say what’s on your mind, I’m not your subordinate, there’s no need to show your Security Minister’s face to me,” Dr. Ferenc said coldly.

Mr. Ofi stopped, took a deep breath, and stared at Dr. Ferenc, saying in a deep voice, “I want to ask you, did you have any agreements with Belgium before?”

Dr. Ferenc was slightly stunned, then tilted his head and said indifferently, “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

“Layton Company! Secret technical support!” Mr. Ofi whispered.

Dr. Ferenc opened his mouth, then fell silent. The two stared at each other, until after a long while the doctor sighed, “Since you already know, why ask me?”

“Because I don’t believe! That’s why I need to hear you say it!” Mr. Ofi shouted angrily, “I don’t believe my father would do such a thing! I don’t believe my father would become so irrational… Are you senile? Do you even know what sharks lie behind Layton Company? You and Belgium actually sought Layton Company for such secret technical trade?”

Dr. Ferenc shook his head, “I only know that if this deal succeeds, we will have the ability to launch our own satellite in one to two years. For this, any sacrifice is worth it.”

Mr. Ofi tried to calm down, “Do you know who our people caught these past two days?”

“Who you caught has nothing to do with me,” the doctor shook his head, “I’m just a scientist, I don’t care about politics.”

“It’s the FBI agents.” Mr. Ofi stared at Dr. Ferenc, speaking slowly, “Yes, you don’t care about politics. But do you know that Layton Company, with whom you plan to trade, has long been eyed by that government? Once your agreement is fulfilled and the evidence is established, Layton Company will be charged with selling national technology! And we will be accomplices! We will give that rogue country a great excuse to extort us!”

“This…” Dr. Ferenc suddenly stood up, not caring about politics didn’t mean he couldn’t weigh pros and cons, he just never thought, “This… this is impossible.”

“Those agents are right on my turf! Want me to bring you to face them?” Mr. Ofi roared at his old father, “You are my father! You’re harming me! Are you trying to kill me?! Are you planning to tear apart this already shattered family once again? Want to destroy the life I’ve painstakingly pieced together again?”

“Ofi, I…” Dr. Ferenc’s lips trembled.

Mr. Ofi wiped his face with both hands, then took several deep breaths, “Sorry, my tone was heavy. I’ve suppressed this matter for now. But from now on, you must not have any contact with Belgium. I don’t want to be labeled by the current President as a collaborator with Belgium.”

Dr. Ferenc remained silent.

Mr. Ofi turned his back, “I’ve submitted your resignation to the research institute on your behalf, for reasons of poor health making you unfit for your current position. But you won’t have nothing to do, the National University has appointed you as Honorary Dean. If you’re too idle, go teach the young people.”

“You’re interfering with my personal life! Ofi! You can’t do this!” Dr. Ferenc rushed forward, grabbing his son’s arm.

“I don’t want, I really don’t want…” Mr. Ofi said slowly, “Don’t want Louis to watch me send you to a nursing home.”

“Ofi…” Dr. Ferenc let go helplessly.

He walked out the doors of the study, despondent.

…

Bara was playing soccer with Louis in the yard, but Louis didn’t seem very happy. Bara could only walk up to the child and squat down, “Louis, don’t you like playing soccer? Didn’t you say your idol is Maradona?”

Louis shook his head and then looked up at the study, “Bara, are Dad and Grandpa fighting?”

“How could they be? They’re just discussing something important,” Bara comforted, “Maybe they’ll come down soon! Hmm… I might need to prepare lunch; how about I make something you like?”

“Sounds good.” Louis nodded and walked back into the house with Bara’s hand. Suddenly, he said, “Bara, is my mom a very impressive person?”

Bara was startled, “Why bring her up?”

Louis said, “Yesterday Grandpa took me to the Science Museum, and I saw a huge satellite! It was awesome! Moreover, Mom’s name was listed as the creator, along with Grandpa’s name!”

“Of course, because your mother was your grandfather’s student, she was his most proud disciple.” Bara smiled.

“Why have Dad and Grandpa never told me about this?” Louis asked puzzledly.

“Louis.” Bara squatted down and cupped the child’s cheek, speaking softly, “Do you trust me?”

Louis nodded.

So Bara said seriously, “Then listen to me, trust me, there’s surely an important reason why your father and grandfather haven’t told you. Louis, aren’t you a very good child? You should know not to make them upset, right?”

Louis nodded half understandingly.

…

…

Columbia, Cartagena, the beautiful bay ancient city.

The airplane quietly landed at this city, heralded as South America’s most beautiful port city, around noon.

The first to step out of the cabin door was Oni, who stretched lazily and flashed a bright smile at the flight attendant at the door, just as he was about to ask for her number, Lluvia walked by and tugged on his ear, pulling him away.

“Is your friend always like this?” Luo Qiu walked out behind, glancing at Song Haoran as he asked.

Due to being in first class, the four of them were the first to leave, and the airport passageway was quite empty and quiet.

“It’s probably that love-hate feeling?” Song Haoran described briefly.

He looked at Oni and Lluvia tugging each other ahead and smiled, “When I first met Oni, he was working at a hotel parking cars for guests. Later, I discovered he would secretly drive the guests’ cars out, pretending to be a wealthy man.”

“Did he ever steal your car for a drive?” Luo Qiu asked curiously.

“No,” Song Haoran shrugged, “I don’t drive luxury cars, so he wasn’t interested in mine.”

Luo Qiu nodded, “And Lluvia? How did she end up with you?”

Song Haoran smacked his lips together lightly, seemingly lost in memory. He suddenly said, “Lluvia means ‘rain.’ We met on a rainy day. She told me she didn’t have a name, so I gave her the name ‘Lluvia’… that’s all.”

“That’s all?” Luo Qiu was slightly stunned.

Song Haoran shrugged, smiled, and said, “That’s all.”

Boss Luo chuckled and moved on from the topic, “What’s the plan next?”

Song Haoran walked ahead and said, “No need to go anywhere, this is the temporary destination. Dad got here earlier; I’m taking you to meet him now.”

Song Haoran’s silhouette in front of the passage was quite slender. He suddenly turned around, smiling, “Oh, forgot to tell you, here you can do whatever you want. Because this is… our Song Family’s territory.”

He looked at Luo Qiu and said softly, “Ours.”
