Chapter 815: Chapter 59: Friday Without the Lord (Part 1)

The café where Caroline met with Lawyer Carlo was still the same one from last time.

Caroline noticed that this Lawyer Carlo’s attire was exactly the same as before — including his somewhat wrinkled and old suit, even the shirt underneath.

Lawyer Carlo had a seemingly sincere smile, and his attitude was much more enthusiastic than last time. At this moment, he was sizing up the two men beside Caroline.

“I wonder who these gentlemen might be?” Lawyer Carlo asked with curiosity.

Caroline glanced left and right, just as she was about to introduce these subordinates from Boston, one of the men said calmly, “We are her cousins. I’m Big Cousin, he’s Second Cousin. We’re here with her to discuss matters with you.”

“Oh… hello, Cousins.” Lawyer Carlo nodded, smiling at Caroline, “Ms. Caroline, you are indeed careful.”

Caroline nodded awkwardly and echoed, “Better to be cautious.”

She knew that Lawyer Carlo seemed to have misunderstood something — probably thinking that she brought two people over to guard against him playing tricks in this Nia property transaction.

“Lawyer Carlo, since we’ve already been introduced, let’s get to business.” Another man… ‘Second Cousin’ spoke coldly.

“No problem.” Lawyer Carlo lit a cigarette, “I’ve prepared all the relevant procedures and documents. Nia has already signed the power of attorney, the only thing left is for you, Ms. Caroline, to sign this power of attorney in front of Nia.”

Lawyer Carlo laid out the prepared materials, a thick stack of documents. ‘Big Cousin’ and ‘Second Cousin’ frowned, seeing all these documents longer than intestines, and simply chose not to read them.

However, they certainly had their own ways of doing things.

‘Big Cousin’ suddenly shouted in a deep voice, “Lawyer Carlo, is it?”

“Yes, is there a problem?” Lawyer Carlo asked curiously.

‘Big Cousin’ casually took Lawyer Carlo’s pack of cigarettes, “File signing and whatnot, let’s just wrap it up here. We’re only concerned if our cousin can get the money promised. You know, we don’t play legal word games, but we play other games… very stimulating games.”

With that said, ‘Big Cousin’ directly crushed the cigarette pack, the muscles in his arm bulging prominently.

‘Second Cousin’ spoke first, “This place is not too big, not too small, but if I want to find someone to play with us, it’s still quite easy.”

Lawyer Carlo smiled calmly, but his expression changed slightly when he saw ‘Second Cousin’ suddenly lift a corner of his shirt, revealing a black pistol tucked into his belt.

Lawyer Carlo hastily said, “No problem, I assure you there won’t be any issues. In fact, I’ve already got some leads on the buyer… he’s a senator who’s recently found a girlfriend and plans to buy a house for her.”

‘Second Cousin’ pretended not to hear, gazing nonchalantly out the window.

Those reckless daredevils… were naturally not afraid of anyone.

They’d seen too many people like Lawyer Carlo, who always boasted about who they knew — most of them were just weaklings looking to leverage others with no real ability of their own.

“How much does a senator earn?” ‘Big Cousin’ sneered disdainfully, “Paying such a high price for a house? Must be money of dubious origins.”

Lawyer Carlo laughed awkwardly, “Since we’ve all reached a consensus, why don’t we take a trip to the hospital now and have Ms. Caroline sign this power of attorney?”

‘Big Cousin’ checked the time and nodded, “Let’s hurry.”

…

…

“Abracadabra!”

Wearing a green olive crown, Bucky assumed a solemn posture, closed his eyes, and calmly raised his hands.

Bucky, who had been hiding away practicing for the past two days, surprisingly made rapid progress. This was probably because of his past contract with Lucifer, which made his spiritual power stronger than that of the average person, though he had never developed it.

So in practicing the Meditation Technique he learned from the Maid, he managed to cultivate a trace of spiritual power in just two days — which was already enough for him to activate the inherent magic within the blessing ring, or perhaps even Divine Arts.

The power of blessings.

The green crown also provided an amplification effect, so Bucky was brimming with confidence!

In the first thirty to forty years of his life, he licked blood with a knife, but unexpectedly in middle age, he got to experience the transcendent side — and he himself was even exerting extraordinary power.

“Abracadabra! Abracadabra!”

Though the target of his spell was just a stray dog — a starving stray dog with a lame leg!

At this point, Bucky’s palm emitted a faint white light, and he took a deep breath, pressing his palm to the stray dog’s forehead.

The faint light began to spread from his palm over the entire dog, and before long, the near-dead stray dog suddenly stood up as if injected with adrenaline.

Although its body was still emaciated, it appeared full of vigor.

The stray dog seemed to be brimming with new vitality, suddenly biting Bucky’s hand, causing him to angrily kick it away. After being kicked, the stray dog, frightened, hurriedly ran away.

Bucky didn’t chase after it, but just stared dumbly at his hand, a look of ecstasy flashing in his eyes, and exclaimed in excitement, “Oh! God! Ms. You Ye, did you see that! My power! It’s amazing! I actually brought it back to life!”

“That only squeezed out its remaining potential; it won’t last long before it dies.”

The Maid’s words were like a cold bucket of water, sending Bucky’s enthusiasm to the Siberian plateau, letting the cold wind tear it apart.

This legendary villain looked somewhat mournfully at the Maid who sat quietly on the bench, flipping through recipe books — this was already the seventh recipe book she flipped through, as far as he remembered.

How many books does she need to read?

“If it’s like this, isn’t it more like administering steroids than divine arts?” Bucky squatted down dejectedly.

The Maid calmly replied, “The stray dog’s life was nearly over, and you activated its remaining life force, so afterward it will naturally die, but it’s different for humans. With minor ailments, even if life force is activated, it won’t have much of a negative impact. Especially for the wealthy, who can replenish their life nutrients by consuming high-grade foods; this consumption is quickly recovered.”

Bucky immediately perked up — Lucifer and the demons from the ‘Flaming Red Lips’ Bar never selflessly taught him this knowledge.

“Moreover…” The Maid continued flipping a page, not even raising her head, “If it’s a critically ill person, or someone diagnosed as hopeless, you can activate their last bit of potential, allowing them to live a little longer. Won’t they be grateful or even dependent on you? Once your spiritual power is strong enough, you can even sustain these people’s vitality by consuming your own power. They will grow increasingly dependent on you, even regard you as a god. Over time, they will become devout… and devotion is the foundation of faith. Once your spiritual power is sufficient, your crown can transform into a paradise…”

The Maid suddenly frowned and looked up.

She noticed that Bucky could even doze off while squatting, probably hadn’t heard much of what was said before—despite knowing that this guy successfully used blessing magic for the first time, it must have greatly drained his spiritual power, hence his drowsiness.

But ah…

The young maid snapped her fingers, and a black spark fell directly on Bucky—within an instant, Bucky wailed and woke up, then rolled around on the floor, frantically trying to extinguish the flames on him.

“Ow, ow, ow…it hurts to death…help—!!!!”

But the black flames came and went quickly, Bucky stood up extremely embarrassed, only to hear the young maid coldly say, “Next time I’m talking, don’t let me catch you dozing off.”

“Yes!!”

Bucky stood up straight. He promised, this was the most upright he had ever stood in his life!

At this moment, the maid closed the recipe book in her hand and stood up, Bucky quickly asked, “Ms. You Ye, is it lunchtime?”

The maid simply glanced at him indifferently, “Dress up, I’m taking you somewhere tonight.”

“Where are we going?” Bucky asked instinctively.

You Ye didn’t answer, just looked at Bucky with a gentle expression.

Bucky quickly shut up, watching the maid leave.

But after the maid left, Bucky seemed to remember something, loudly asking the air, “What should I dress as? Trendy or formal?”

…

…

Mr. Ofi’s nap lasted much longer than he expected.

When he woke up, it was clearly past lunchtime. He rubbed his forehead a little annoyed and hurriedly got up to dress.

Downstairs, the maid Bara was inspecting the cleanliness of the room, “Mr. Ofi, you’re awake! I didn’t dare disturb you, but lunch is ready, shall I heat it up for you?”

“No need, I’m rushing back.” Mr. Ofi shook his head and headed directly towards the door. Before leaving, he seemed to think of something and immediately turned to ask, “Did you pick up Louis yesterday?”

Bara replied, “Sir, the power went out yesterday, the school was closed, I told you already, did you forget?”

“Oh…yeah, you mentioned it.” Mr. Ofi nodded, “I’ll pop in to see Louis before leaving, is he in his room?”

Bara said, “This morning Dr. Ferenc already took Louis out, said he would spend the day with him, so you can work with peace of mind.”

Mr. Ofi was taken aback, after a moment’s silence he nodded, “Did he say where they were going?”

Bara replied, “I heard the doctor plans to take him to the science museum, Louis was very excited and happy, I think it should be fine.”

“I’m off then.” Mr. Ofi went out without looking back.

Mr. Ofi quickly moved to the garage, drove away from his house.

He immediately called his secretary, and before the other party could start to greet him, he said, “Sorry, I overslept today, I’m heading back right now. Is there anything urgent that needs handling?”

“Today is Friday, according to schedule, sir, you have a meeting with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs at three in the afternoon, and at four-thirty a new batch of surveillance equipment samples will be delivered—the ones you specifically requested, the manufacturers hope you can be present for the testing. Also, at seven in the evening, General Gérmont wishes for you to attend his birthday party.”

“Push the birthday party, the rest go as planned.” Mr. Ofi quickly decided.

“Understood. Additionally, regarding the theater hostage incident, we’ve found new leads.”

“Send me the information, I’ll review it in the car, you tell me.” Saying this, Mr. Ofi turned off the car’s navigation, while receiving the secretary’s transmitted files.

Soon after, a man’s photo appeared on the screen—the man wore a white staff uniform, looking very handsome.

The secretary’s voice came through, “Sir, this man’s name is Oni, he’s a professional gunman. We found records of him appearing on the theater’s surveillance footage.”

“Tell me about this gunman,” Mr. Ofi frowned.

“According to our records, Oni was born in a small village in southern Peru and dropped out of high school to make a living. In his youth, he did many jobs: security, valet, mechanic, shooting club attendant, even a gigolo for a whole year. Later, Oni vanished for two full years, then emerged as a gunman, active in various countries in South America, with a recorded track of twenty-nine successful operations.”

Mr. Ofi frowned even deeper, “One of the top five gunmen in the Latin American underground… Senator’s assassination…”

“Additionally, according to reliable intelligence, Oni currently belongs to a force called ‘Iris,ʼ” the secretary added.

The moving car suddenly braked harshly, startling the vehicles following to a screeching stop. If it wasn’t for seeing the government license plate on the car that stopped abruptly, the owners might have come down to curse.

Mr. Ofi had to move the car to the side, his frown almost knitted into one piece.

He seemed to be speaking to himself, “It’s ‘Iris’…what exactly are they trying to do, is this a provocation against our country? No…”

“Sir?”

“‘Iris’ is a mercenary group, driven by money,” Ofi seemed to sense something, “They wouldn’t assassinate a prominent figure in a country’s government without cause…so, whose hand is reaching out from behind the scenes?”

Suddenly, Mr. Ofi felt as if he’d plunged into an unfathomable vortex—one that might well stir national turmoil.

“Sir, should we issue a wanted order?”

“Aside from you, who else knows about this?” Ofi quickly asked.

“Just the members of the investigation team, no one else,” the secretary replied.

Ofi solemnly said, “Keep this matter confidential for now. I don’t want even the slightest hint about it to leak out.”

“Understood,” the secretary promptly agreed, then added, “By the way, sir, there’s one more follow-up on the hostage incident. Some people died on the scene, and some guests spontaneously organized a memorial for tonight. They have already reported it to the police, and arrangements should be made to have personnel maintaining order.”

“Got it, handle the minor details yourself,” Ofi nodded, “There’s not enough time, I won’t head back to headquarters, I’ll go directly to the news conference at the Foreign Affairs department. You wait for me there.”

“Understood.”
