Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 745: Requests

”Please take this.” Layfon extended his hand, showing them two big bags containing cores.

”This is…” Nathan and Selena exchanged looks.

”Please accept this. Your contribution to the battlefield is so great that weʼll feel bad if you donʼt accept this little gift.

”Weʼve retrieved all the cores on the battlefield. After sending a third of them back home, weʼre allowed to use the rest for our own consumption.

”In other words, we still have two-thirds of them left. As the vice commander, I think itʼs only right for you to take a third of them.

”Mr. Nathan has contributed the most on the battlefield through your familiars and your abilities. Meanwhile, Miss Selena has taken down a lot of big aliens, which prevents the wall from taking massive damage.

”Without both of you, we will be in a much worse predicament, so I hope that you can accept them. If you need anything else, please let me know.”

Nathan looked down. He indeed saw a group of people coming out of the fort yesterday. The knights were in charge of killing the surviving aliens and ensuring that all of them had died. Meanwhile, another group came out and extracted all their cores.

Once the morning came, several summoners burned their corpses to clean up the area.

If he rejected them, it would be a bit too rude. After all, not recognizing his achievement didnʼt always mean him being humble. Sometimes, people thought he was looking down on them or pitying them.

”Are you sure itʼs alright for me to take them? Or maybe give me a smaller share? I will feel bad if I take them, not realizing that theyʼre supposed to be used to compensate the people.”

”Not at all. Weʼve taken care of the calculation. In fact, if I could reward you more, I would have done so.” Layfon shook his head.

Nathan glanced at Selena, who ultimately nodded her head.

”I understand.” Nathan sighed. ”I will accept them.”

”Thanks.” Layfon nodded, satisfied.

”And you mentioned I could ask something.” Nathan raised two fingers. ”Although this is a bit shameless of me to ask, there are actually two things I want.”

”Oh?! What are they?” Layfon asked.

”Do you think itʼs possible for me to meet the knights who receive the magic weapons? I personally want to hear their opinions. In the end, weʼve been providing them the weapons without receiving any feedback.

”I want to hear what they thought about the magic weapons to see if there is room for improvement. And if possible, Iʼd like to see them training or using them in real battle.” Nathan explained.

”Thatʼs actually not a hard request. In fact, those people will be delighted to know you want to observe them. Theyʼre eager to meet you, actually.” Layfon smiled. ”After all, youʼre the one bringing the change to the knights.”

”Ahahaha.” Nathan smiled embarrassedly. ”As for the second request. Do you think I can learn a bit more about the military system of this country? Like their promotion, status, or even wages and compensation.”

”Oh. As long as itʼs not about a military secret, you can actually ask Sylvia. Iʼll ask her to accompany both of you. If you need anything else, you can inform her.” Layfon agreed without hesitation.

”Is that so? Iʼm glad.”

”In that case, I will draft you a letter. Sylvia will take care of the rest. Would you like to visit the elite training camp?”

Nathan thought for a moment before nodding his head.

Just like that, Nathan was able to acquire the letter stating his identity and purpose. Sylvia was the one handling the entire discussion.

Sylvia was truly not an ordinary maid. From the peopleʼs gaze alone, they could feel sincerity and admiration.

Despite not being able to fight, Sylvia had been truly involved in a lot of things. She coordinated the people who couldnʼt fight and handled a lot of menial tasks.

Even Nathan recognized her strength despite being a normal person.

ʼJust from looking at her, I feel how unrealistic those stories are. I have read a story where they brought women and children inside a church to protect them while the city was under siege. Or they even had people do nothing, which made them panic and created an even bigger problem.

ʼMeanwhile, the reality is different. You expect everyone to contribute. In the film, you always see fire arrows or anything related to fire or something like boiling oil.

ʼIn this world, whether you are a woman, elderly, or a child, you are expected to contribute. Even if you canʼt fight, you can still bring rocks, boiling water, or arrows, tend to the injured people, or even shoot an arrow.

ʼFire arrows? Thereʼs no need for them. It might be because the aliens have elemental resistance, but thatʼs not all. There are other reasons, such as it not being as efficient as a normal arrow.

ʼOr why boiling oil? They just boil water. The purpose is the same. Itʼs to hurt the enemies. Proto-class aliens donʼt really have enough resistance against boiling water. You can also throw rocks. Theyʼre everywhere and donʼt need maintenance.

ʼAnd more importantly, a lot of them donʼt have ditches. I wonder why. Even a simple fortification can help a lot to slow down the enemies. There are even some dumb stories where, despite having a defensive wall advantage, they actually come out and fight in the plain.ʼ

Nathan let out a long sigh. ʼStill, there are some that have been useful to me. So itʼs not like all of them are useless. Itʼs good that I come to the battlefield directly.

ʼI also get a lot of cores in the process, showing that itʼs really a good idea to leave the group and focus on hunting down the aliens for their cores. I canʼt help imagining several divine beasts rampaging across the land.ʼ

Nathanʼs vision soon shifted up, seeing Sylvia was done talking to the captain of the elite knights.

It looked like the captain was shocked and secretly took several glances at Nathan. He even rushed back to inform his squad about Nathanʼs appearance.
