Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 720: God of Valkyrja

”I will be your opponent, Belphegor.” Asmodeus levitated in the air with a smug smile.

”Youʼre overconfident, Asmodeus. Even if weʼre equal, my ability is much more useful in this situation. That little bird canʼt fight against the snake.” Belphegor harrumphed.

”Iʼm not really sure about that.” Asmodeus smirked.

Brunhild stepped forward while pointing her spear at the gorgon. In her eyes, there was a mix of resolve and sadness.

Her resolve directly came from that sadness. It was a distant memory.

…

”My lord. Weʼre going to—!” Brunhild said while bringing a group of valkyries.

However, she never thought that the scene that greeted her that day would haunt her for the rest of her life.

What she and the rest of the valkyries saw was the monstrous wolf Fenrir licking the blood around his mouth. There was a trace of blood everywhere, including an arm that Fenrir had just spit out.

”That arm…” The valkyries couldnʼt help but widen their eyes. There was no way they didnʼt recognize that arm. It was the arm of the lord they served.

In other words, all this blood came from one person.

Brunhildʼs face was distorted as her body trembled in anger. She clenched her spear and leaped toward Fenrir. ”You evil creature. What have you done?!”

Brunhild waved her spear with all her power while Fenrir simply struck her spear as though nothing happened.

Her power flared up, brightening the whole cave. Yet that light itself shattered as if it were glass.

”!!!” Brunhild widened her eyes in shock. The next thing she realized, her other hand had tried to shield her body as Fenrirʼs paw broke her spear, her ribs, and her pride.

”You pathetic bird. After imprisoning me here for so long just because youʼre scared of me… do you think I wonʼt do anything to you?” Fenrir snorted. ”You are the one who makes me an enemy. I have trusted you multiple times, but you donʼt fail to break that trust. And itʼs time for you to face my wrath!”

Brunhild was in utter shock. The hit was so hard that her strength was leaving her body. Powerless. This was the first time she felt so powerless before.

Even with all her strength, she couldnʼt even last a single hit against the monstrous wolf.

And it was even more terrifying that she could hear the screams of her sisters as she watched Fenrir devouring them one by one.

Brunhild felt helpless that there was nothing she could do.

…

Brunhild took a deep breath. Those memories reminded her of her weakness. If she remained the same, she might not be able to do anything in the future.

The lord she served would be killed again and again. And this time, it wouldnʼt be Fenrir alone. There might even be other enemies that would be capable of killing the person she served.

As long as she remained weak, there was nothing she could do.

ʼI donʼt want the tragedy to repeat itself. Thatʼs why I have to become stronger… stronger than even Fenrir. And thereʼs only one thing I can do.

ʼI will surpass the lord I once served. I will have no choice but to break the rule where the servant shouldnʼt be more brilliant than their lord.ʼ

The gorgon, whose monstrosity had increased, just showed her that there would be even more terrifying beings that could do the same, creating an even stronger enemy.

That was why she had to change. She had found a path that might be treacherous but actually suited her.

Brunhild took another deep breath.

Although she didnʼt want to admit it, Asmodeusʼ magic might be the most suitable.

…

When she first asked Asmodeus to teach her magic, Asmodeus just smiled.

”I see. So, you want to become stronger. Well, I do have a way to make you stronger… far stronger than you can imagine. Whether itʼs fortunate or unfortunate, my magic system is more suitable for a person like you.

”However, my magic has a flaw. And are you sure you will be able to accept that flaw?”

”Iʼm ready.” Brunhild nodded without hesitation. ”Iʼd rather become stronger than see the person I serve dying.”

Asmodeus raised one finger. ”I am a demon of desire. My magic is based on your desire. The stronger that desire, the more powerful my magic can be.

”Of course, it will even amplify your own desire. The desire to get stronger, the desire to protect someone…

”As someone who is extremely loyal to her lord, thereʼs no magic more suitable than this. However, I did say it will amplify your own desire, right? And this desire is not limited to those two. It will also amplify the possessive desire toward your lord.

”I donʼt think I have to explain what this means, right?” Asmodeus smirked.

Brunhild understood it perfectly. First of all, Brunhild had a person she currently served, which was her own summoner, Serafina.

However, there was one problem. Her lingering past would give her a problem in mastering this magic. As long as she kept idolizing her former lord, who ended up dying, she might not be able to surpass him.

Hence, Brunhild had to move on from that lingering desire for the sake of tomorrow.

”I have failed to protect my lord in the past. As a result, I canʼt even protect him right now. However, it is different now. If I continue crying over my past, I will not be able to take a step forward into the future. I might even lose my lord again.

”Iʼm already sick of being protected. I donʼt plan to stand behind someone anymore. If needed, I will stand beside the person I serve or even stronger and become the beacon of my lord. Teach me your magic.”

Asmodeus nodded. ”In that case, you need to answer this question. Who is the person you serve?”

Brunhild closed her eyes. It was obvious. There was one person who was strong and wise enough to control even the monstrous Fenrir.

And standing beside her was her summoner.

”I, Brunhild, swear on this day. I shall serve with my body and my soul. I will dedicate everything I have for the sake of two people in this world, my lord Nathan and my mistress Serafina Dialanta.”

Ding!

Her spear echoed in the middle of the night with a loud and clear sound, as if the ruckus around it couldnʼt disrupt its sound.

A circle of white light appeared on her back as she muttered the true name of the magic.

”God of Valkyrja.”
