Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 739: Joining the Battle

”Sir Layfon!”

”!!!” Layfon was startled, realizing that Nathan and Selena were already beside him. In fact, he didnʼt expect Sylvia to be with them as well. ”What are you doing here?”

”How about letting us help here?” Nathan asked. ”I donʼt mean to eavesdrop, but after hearing your thoughts earlier, how about letting us help you as well? Although we might not be as strong as you, weʼre still quite capable.”

Layfon furrowed his eyebrows. ”No. You are envoys. If you two somehow lose your lives in the battle, I will be the one in trouble.”

”Is that so? Even if it means Iʼm going to help you heal all those three thousand soldiers?” Nathan asked with a smile.

”What did you say?” Layfon wasnʼt the only one expressing the shock. Even Sylvia couldnʼt help but react.

Nathan nodded. ”My familiar should be able to help them. Besides, we canʼt just be the one enjoying life inside the fort while the others are busy protecting it.”

”Thatʼs…” Layfon wanted to refute his words, but it was reasonable for Nathan and Selena to help. Although they were indeed not as strong as him, there werenʼt a lot of summoners that had more ena than them in this fort.

”If you feel burdened, why donʼt you tell me a bit about this fort and the soldier system here as a reward?” Nathan smiled. It wasnʼt a big reward, but a very crucial one for Nathan to understand the battlefield.

ʼShould I really involve them? Theyʼre strong, so they should be able to kill a lot of aliens. But this is dangerous. However, theyʼre people who will return after finishing their business so they can use up their ena as they want, while we canʼt… And there is that claim that says he can heal the soldiers…ʼ

Layfon gritted his teeth. ”Fine. You can provide additional firepower, but you need to stay beside me. I canʼt afford to have you guys in danger.”

”Understood.” Nathan nodded.

Layfon waved his hand and shouted, ”Once the summoners are ready, weʼll begin suppressing them.”

”Yes, sir!”

Nathan turned to Sylvia and said, ”Can you guide Anubis back to the medical district? Do something so that he can heal those soldiers?”

Sylvia didnʼt answer immediately. Instead, she glanced at Layfon.

It looked like Layfon didnʼt want to have her on the wall because it was dangerous, so he nodded his head. Still, the fact he reacted that way made Nathan a bit suspicious of their relationship, not that it mattered to him.

Nathan asked, ”Are we going to blast them with everything weʼve got?”

”No.” Layfon shook his head. ”You might not know the situation on the battlefield, especially after this annoying eruption.

”However, if you recklessly spend your ena, you will be in trouble in no time. The soldiers and the summoners have to work together.

”If the summoners and their familiars exhaust all their ena, the soldiers wonʼt be able to fend off the next attack. At the same time, if the summoners continue to conserve their stamina, there will be too many casualties.

”You need a perfect balance where the summoners spend their ena and still take into account their recovery rate. Unlike you, who are going back in a few days, these summoners have to remain here for a few weeks or even months.

”Thatʼs why we will provide firepower to kill as many aliens as possible before focusing on those strong aliens. Then weʼll pull back and let the soldiers take care of the rest.”

”I see.” Nathan looked down, thinking, ʼThatʼs reasonable. If Iʼm the alien, I will send wave after wave of aliens to exhaust the summoners.

ʼEven right now, I need about 2 days to recover all of my ena, which means a 50% recovery rate per day. If the enemies attack and force me to exhaust 60% of my ena before attacking again the day after, it means I only have 90% of my ena on the second day. Repeating it for several days will definitely exhaust me.

ʼOnce I have only 50% of ena, they can even create an even bigger wave with several warrior class aliens. This way, I donʼt have enough ena to oppose them anymore.

ʼThatʼs why I can only spend the ena I can recover and let the soldiers do the rest.ʼ

Nathan couldnʼt help but ask, ”Do the soldiers get compensated fairly with such a strategy?”

”Of course they are. There are promotions and stuff along with bonuses. Well, there are some more benefits for an even more dangerous position.” Layfon nodded. ”On the battlefield, summoners and knights have to work together.

”Besides, there is even another path of promotion that is pretty heated among the knights right now. Thanks to the great researcher Vivian Lorelei and her disciple Nathan, the path of being a magic knight, whose position is much more prestigious… Ehm?” Layfon abruptly stopped before turning to Nathan. ”Now that I think about it, your name is similar…”

Nathan smiled wryly. ”Iʼm that Nathan…” Nathan turned to Selena. ”Is it not that obvious? I thought Nidhogg alone was enough.”

Selena shook her head. ”Not necessarily. When youʼre in the front line, you donʼt really get a lot of information back home. So, while he might know you as a unique summoner, he might not know you as Mistress Vivianʼs disciple nor the inventor of the magic weapon.”

”…” Layfon dropped his jaw. The reason was, as Selena said. He had been on the front line for too long, so he didnʼt have much information about what was happening inside the kingdom. ”You… you are… that Nathan?”

Nathan nodded, thinking about a phrase he once wanted to say. ”Yes. Guarantee exchange if not genuine.”

Layfon froze, not expecting that the envoy this time was much more important than he expected.

Nathan, on the other hand, turned to the field and asked, ”So, what are we supposed to do now? Should I wait for them to approach before attacking it together? Or we can just blast them right away?”
