Summoners War: Only I Summoned Divine Beasts

Chapter 736: Arriving at Denfort

The next day, Flora immediately took her leave, since there were a lot of things to do to prepare for the city opening.

On the other hand, Nathan and Selena headed to the front line. They used the teleportation circle of Marquis Reyzar to get as close as possible to the front line.

Then they crossed the remaining distance with Nidhoggʼs help.

”Nathan. The baseʼs location seems a bit… How do I say this? Troublesome?” Selena furrowed her eyebrows, looking at the map.

Nathan nodded. ”Yes. If you look at the map, the base weʼre heading for should be facing the most brutal fight. In fact, if you look at the location of other bases, the Azilia Kingdom is actually creating a funnel-shaped front. As a result, it allows them to focus only on several bases at each tip.

”It canʼt be helped. If they have to protect a vast area with a limited amount of manpower, they have to focus on several bases and let the aliens concentrate their force there.

”Then again, this is their last line of defense. If you look further, you will see that their first line and second line of defenses are rather random. Itʼs like theyʼre creating dots and planning to connect them once they clean up another area.”

Selena crossed her arms. ”Considering this base will be facing a lot of attacks, itʼs no wonder why they let Duke Sullivan guard there.”

”Yes. They gather their strongest people there. At the same time, itʼs the most brutal for people.” Nathan raised his head.

”Summoner. I have seen the base. They donʼt seem to be attacked right now,” Nidhogg suddenly opened his mouth.

”Yeah. I see it too.” Nathan nodded as Selena closed the map and took a look at the base.

Unlike any other base, this one was actually a massive fort. Their walls were high and made of stone. They looked nothing like the base they had seen before, whether it was during the first meeting with Sullivan or the base in the Liaystian Kingdom.

It was a massive fort that seemed to be capable of holding over tens of thousands of people.

”This is nothing like the bases weʼve seen before.” Selena gasped.

”Their reaction is quick too.” Nathan muttered, seeing the people gathering on top of the wall after sighting them.

Considering Nidhogg was a dragon, it wasnʼt weird for them to think Nidhogg was an alien.

That was why Nathan asked, ”Nidhogg. Fly lower and decrease your speed. Itʼll be bad if they start attacking.”

Nidhogg followed Nathanʼs instruction. There were several summoners actually ready to intercept them, but they all stopped the moment they saw the true appearance of Nidhogg as well as the two people riding him.

He even noticed someone much stronger than them suddenly appearing on top of the wall. He raised his hand, signaling the people not to attack.

Nidhogg, on the other hand, landed right in front of the wall as gently as possible to show no aggression.

”Who are you?!” The man probably had predicted it, considering no one was able to summon a being like Nidhogg other than Nathan. But he had just to make sure of his identity and intention.

Nathan climbed to the top of Nidhoggʼs head and took out a letter and a badge. ”Iʼm currently an envoy of the royal family, Nathan. Iʼve come here to bring a message from the royal family to Duke Sullivan.”

”!!!” The middle-aged man squinted his eyes, examining the letter and badge. ”Open the gate. Itʼs unfortunate, but I hope you can recall your familiar.”

Nathan nodded and recalled Nidhogg as he and Selena landed on the ground smoothly. They could hear the stone fence being pulled up before a bridge descended, allowing them to cross the ditch.

Now that he was on the ground, he could finally see how majestic the wall was. In addition, the blood smeared on the wall had shown how much attack this place had suffered.

Once the bridge was down, Nathan could see the middle-aged man already waiting for him on the other side, along with several soldiers.

The moment Nathan and Selena entered the fort, the middle-aged man said, ”Itʼs a pleasure to meet the rumored unique summoner, Nathan. I am the Vice Commander of the Snow Legion, Faylon.

Nathan nodded. ”Iʼm acting as an envoy of the royal family. Iʼve come to bring the letter to Duke Sullivan, who is said to be stationed here. This is my partner for this mission, Selena Ashton.”

”Unfortunately, the duke is currently out. If you wish, I can pass your message to him.”

”Thatʼs a shame, but we can only wait for him. Thatʼs the order, after all.”

Faylon nodded. ”I understand. In that case, Base Denfort welcomes you. Please follow me inside.”

Nathan agreed to follow him. The first thing that made him curious was the buildings inside.

He noticed that the fort itself looked like a small city. There were numerous buildings around, with a lot of normal civilians inside.

”Is this your first time visiting a fort like this?” Faylon asked, noticing Nathanʼs curiosity.

”Yes. This is like a small city.”

”Indeed.” Faylon agreed. ”It can hold up to 50,000 people at once. Right now, we only have about 15,000 people here, along with several thousand normal civilians.”

”Are you sure itʼs alright for you to share that information with me?” Nathan asked.

”Itʼs just basic information.” Faylon shook his head. ”In fact, the Sword Saint has once told me that someone will be visiting him soon. Although I donʼt know the reason, Iʼm sure itʼs you two.”

”I see.” Nathan smiled wryly. The duke must have known their progress and known that they would come to ask for Count Ashtonʼs information. ”Still, where is Duke Sullivan? How long is he away?”

”The duke is currently bringing a small army to annihilate another den of aliens slightly far from here. It should take him at least two or three more days before returning here. Thatʼs why if you canʼt wait, I can always pass the message to him.”

Nathan shook his head. ”Itʼs fine. We can wait for him. Besides, this is the first time I see a fort like this, so Iʼm a bit curious.”
