I Get A Random New Occupation Every Week

Chapter 595 - 595 A Fatal Question

595 A Fatal Question

“Is this something a top student of Yan University should say?” Lin Yi said.

“I’ve now discovered that your motive for being with me is not so simple.”

“If I’m not innocent, what about you?”

“Yeah, I’m quite innocent,” Lin Yi said, “I’m with you purely because I want your beauty.”

!!
“Then I can only say that you’re a hooligan!”

“Hurry up and get to work. Our goal today is to earn enough to cover the rent.”

Lin Yi went to the kitchen to take a look around. Meanwhile, Ji Qingyan swept the floor with a broom. The two looked like a married couple returning home.

“Did you have any delivery orders today?”

After sweeping the floor, Ji Qingyan stood at the kitchen door and said.

“Not even a sniff of one.” Lin Yi said, “It’s so expensive, no one would order it.”

“So be it. We don’t have to spend any money anyway. Just treat it as something running in the background. If we sell a portion through it, we’ll both make a profit.”

“Looks like it’s not feasible for us to rely on this to increase sales. I have to think of another solution.”

“I’ll leave this glorious and difficult task to you.”

“Yes, yes. Just focus on cooking.”

With that, she took out a QR code from her bag and placed it on the bar counter with a serious expression.

“What is this?”

“It’s a collection code.”

“In the future, when the customers pay, let them scan this. It’ll let them directly bank in the money.”

Lin Yi couldn’t help but laugh. Ji Qingyan was already acting like a lady boss now.

She didn’t care about anything else, but the money had to enter her account.

“You probably haven’t eaten yet. What do you want to eat? I’ll make you something.”

“I’m not hungry yet. There’s no need to cook for me,” said Ji Qingyan.

“Alright, let me know when you’re hungry.”

Lin Yi did not think too much about it. With their current relationship, it would be strange if Ji Qingyan was still polite to him.

Unfortunately, the store’s business did not improve because of her arrival.

It wasn’t until past eight in the evening that they received four guests.

These four guests were all girls with no exception.

It was also because of Lin Yi’s looks that they decided to stay for dinner.

In this regard, the differences in consumption patterns between men and women were clearly showcased.

In reality, quite a number of people had entered the store after Ji Qingyan’s arrival. However, after seeing the menu, the boys sensibly left.

Although it was a little embarrassing and the lady boss was very beautiful, the money in their pocket had to be spent wisely.

They could not accept eating a bowl of egg-fried rice or noodles for nearly 200 yuan.

However, it was different for girls. Their concept of money was much vaguer than that of boys. In fact, they were not very rational most of the time.

In their opinion, it was worth it to eat a meal cooked by a handsome man for nearly 200 yuan.

This was also why the fresh meat celebrities in the media were more popular and made for money than those popular female celebrities.

Although there were not many customers, such results were already very good for the two of them.

Lin Yi didn’t care how much money he earned since the mission progress was already at (11/20). If he was fast, he could complete it tomorrow.

“Lin Yi, let’s call it a day. It’s already past lunchtime, so I don’t think anyone will come again.”

“However, we’ve already broken our previous record today. After deducting the cost of the ingredients, we’ve earned about 1,086 yuan. Although we haven’t earned enough to cover the cost of rent and utilities, I think it’s already very good.”

“I think so too,” Lin Yi said cooperatively.

Lin Yi was in a daze.

She was acting like she was really poor.

“Are you hungry? You haven’t eaten dinner yet.”

“I’m not hungry. I ate a lot of fruits at the office in the afternoon. I feel like my stomach is still bloated.”

“Alright then. If you’re hungry, I can cook at home.”

“Uh-uh.”

“But still, our net income today has exceeded a thousand. This is a memorable day. We should celebrate.”

“How?”

“Let’s save the 1,000 yuan and use the remaining 86 yuan to go for a walk.”

“You just want to ask me out.”

“I’m not. Even if you don’t go, I’ll go on my own. And I’m going to wear my little dress and look pretty.”

“Let me tell you, there are a lot of strange people in a place like a university town. They’re all either crazy or stupid. Be careful that they don’t pounce on you and ask you for money.”

“Eh…”

She frowned. “Don’t scare me. Just come with me.”

“Just wait. I’ll clean up.”

Lin Yi felt that even though Ji Qingyan kept saying that she wanted to experience the life of an ordinary person, she did not understand the true meaning behind this.

If she was really an ordinary person struggling at the bottom of society, even if she earned good money, she would not be willing to spend 89 yuan so freely.

For those who worked hard to put food on their table, it was a huge sum of money.

If he lived frugally, he would be able to survive on it for a few days.

After cleaning up the kitchen, the two of them prepared to leave. Ji Qingyan even reminded Lin Yi to check the utilities, doors, and windows. She was very dutiful.

“Where do you want to go?” Lin Yi said, “There’s a plaza nearby. It looks pretty good.”

“I don’t want to go to the plaza,” Ji Qingyan replied. “I’m hungry and want to eat.”

“Hmm? I asked you just now. Didn’t you say that you weren’t hungry? Why did you say that you were hungry the moment I locked the door?”

“I don’t know why, but I’m suddenly hungry.”

“Then I’ll open the door and make you something.”

“You can’t. You’ve had a busy day and you’re tired. Don’t do it.”

“What are you going to eat if I don’t cook? Are you going to slurp up the northwest breeze?”

“Hehe…” Ji Qingyan smiled mysteriously.

“I’ve already asked around. There’s a night market near the university. It’ll be very lively at night. Let’s go take a look,” said Ji Qingyan.

“I think you planned this.”

“Hehe…”

Ji Qingyan’s eyes narrowed like a warm crescent moon, looking as intoxicating as peach blossom wine.

“Actually, I wanted to go yesterday, but we only earned a little more than 200 yuan. I was too embarrassed to use it then, but we earned a little more today. I want to treat this as a reward for myself.”

“Let’s go.”

Lin Yi took a few steps forward and realized that Ji Qingyan was still standing behind him.

“Aren’t we going to the night market? Let’s go. It’s lively now.”

“Don’t you want to do something?”

“Do something?” Lin Yi was suspicious. “I do indeed want to do it, but now’s not the time. I have to eat my fill before going home. Otherwise, I won’t have the strength.”

“Look at the other couples,” said Ji Qingyan.

Lin Yi looked at the street. “What’s wrong with the other couples? They all have one nose and two eyes. They all look normal.”

“That’s not what I meant.” Ji Qingyan puffed up her cheeks and said.

“Look at the others. They’re walking arm in arm.”

“In that case, you can do the same. I never stopped you.”

“No, I can’t take the initiative. You have to offer first.”

‘Um…’

“Come, Mrs. Lin, let’s hold hands and go to the night market together.”

“Hehe…”

Ji Qingyan skipped over and held Lin Yi’s arm as they walked towards the night market.

The snack street near the university city was at the end of Zhengyang Street.

It was roughly divided into two areas. The front part was filled with all kinds of street delicacies.

The latter half contained good and cheap daily necessities.

From earrings and accessories to pajamas and slippers, almost all the daily necessities required in college could be bought here.

However, the quality varied. Whether one could buy something sturdy or durable depended on their own discerning eye.

The food street was far busier than she had imagined. It could almost be described as a sea of people.

“So many people.” Ji Qingyan stood on her tiptoes and stared at the crowd in front of her with a hopeful look in her eyes.

“Do you have to act like this? It’s not like you haven’t been to a place like this before.”

“I’ve never been to the night market in Zhonghai. When I was in university, I went to Yanjing with Yuanyuan, but I didn’t go out often.”

“University life is so free, and no one bothers you there. How could you have never been to a night market?”

“It’s because I was too busy with my studies. I had to soak in the library every day. Moreover, my physical education is terrible. When I have free time, I still have to exercise and deal with physical education classes. After all that, I wouldn’t want to go anywhere after returning to the dormitory. I just wanted to sleep, so I never went much.”

“Let’s go. I’ll take you to have fun.”

“Did you come here often?”

“Zhonghai Institute of Technology is nearby. The animals in our dormitory eat here when they have nothing better to do,” Lin Yi said.

“But I haven’t been here for more than a year. It feels like there’s been quite a bit of change.”

“Are you sure you only used to walk around with your roommates? Have you never brought any other girls here?” Ji Qingyan asked.

This kind of question was almost fatal.

If he had, Ji Qingyan would definitely interrogate him thoroughly. There was a high chance that he would leak other information in the process.

However, saying no was obviously not convincing.

After all, he was handsome.

Therefore, one had to be skillful in answering such questions.

“Many girls from our class came here. They were all poor when they were in university, so they naturally had to choose such a cheap place to have dinner.” Lin Yi sighed and pretended to reminisce.

“Although we’re in a science and engineering school, the girls in our class were all pretty. However, ever since I joined Chaoyang Group and met our president, I realized that none of their looks and figures can compare.”

“Really?” Ji Qingyan looked at Lin Yi, her eyes filled with joy.

“Of course. If I didn’t think you were good-looking, I would have jumped ship when another girl poached me.”

“Not bad, not bad. This means that you have good taste,” she said smugly.

“That’s for sure.”

Seeing that Ji Qingyan was no longer harping on this question, Lin Yi felt that his answer was perfect.

Using non-negative and reverse psychology to deal with such a problem was simply unbeatable.

“Wait a minute.”

Ji Qingyan found a handful of change in her bag and finally found 89 yuan. She handed it to Lin Yi.

“Huh? Why do you have so much change in your bag?”

“Even though electronic payment has become commonplace, not everyone can use WeChat,” said Ji Qingyan.

“I specifically prepared the change at the office. That way, when someone pays in cash, you can offer them change.”

“Then why did you give me 89 yuan?”

“So you can pay for the food later.”

Although Ji Qingyan was from a wealthy family, she did not have an arrogant and domineering personality.

Instead, she was very considerate and knew how to protect a man’s ego.

Whenever they were outside, Ji Qingyan always looked strong and resolute.

However, she was still a little girl. She also hoped to have a boyfriend who doted on her and protected her from the elements.

“Let’s go.”

Lin Yi and Ji Qingyan’s arrival instantly became the most eye-catching scene on the food street.

Many men and women could not help but be anxious.

In their hearts, they felt that she should be a student of Zhonghai Drama Academy. Otherwise, it was impossible for her to be so good-looking.

“Lin Yi, there’s a juice shop over there. I want to have some.”

“If you want to drink it, buy it. Isn’t it that simple?”

The two of them arrived at the small stall. Lin Yi asked,

“What do you drink?”

“Mango.”

“Are you sure you want to drink mango? Just choose what you like to drink. Don’t worry about me.”

“No, it’s really quite delicious.”

Ji Qingyan looked at the stall owner and said happily, “I want a large glass of mango juice.”

“Alright, 18 yuan.”

‘Um…’

Ji Qingyan was stunned for a moment. She only had 89 yuan on hand. If she spent 18 yuan on a glass of fruit juice, she would only have 71 yuan left.

If she continued to spend like this, she would not have enough money to buy other things later.

“Wait, I don’t want a big one,” Ji Qingyan said. “How much is a small one?”

“Small is 12.”

“Even small cups are so expensive.”

Ji Qingyan pursed her lips and instantly did not feel like drinking anymore.

This felt more as if he was going to spend hundreds of millions of yuan.

Her heart ached.

“Boss, I’m sorry. We won’t be buying anymore.”

With that, Ji Qingyan lowered her head and pulled Lin Yi’s arm in embarrassment, quietly leaving the crowd.

A student who was standing by the side buying fruit juice noticed that Ji Qingyan had said that 12 yuan per glass of fruit juice was expensive.

He felt like this was his moment.

Such an attractive young lady with a good figure actually said that 12 yuan per glass of fruit juice was expensive.

When did this world become so straightforward?

Logically speaking, even Starbucks was not qualified to touch such a beautiful young lady’s lips. Why would she ever need to drink a 12 yuan glass of juice?

Hearing this, the boy had one thought.

This guy couldn’t even bear to buy her a 12-yuan glass of juice. He wasn’t worthy of being her boyfriend!
