Beast Taming: Becoming a Bug-type Elite Four Member Starting with Silkworm Raising

Chapter 77 Battle in the SquareChapter 77 Battle in the Square
Just do what you say. This Friday evening, Russell came to Qingxi Plaza in the city center according to the announcement issued by the Senluo Senior Activity Center.

As the largest outdoor activity venue in Senluo City, Qingxi Square is as big as a small town. In order to meet the residents’ needs for fun, the square also has a commercial area and a battle area.

Senluo City Elderly Activity Center has an official background of the alliance, and most of its members are elderly people with good economic conditions. They have never lacked funds. Every Friday, they directly rent a battle field to hold activities.

This kind of leisure activity focuses on entertainment, and the so-called ranking is just a verbal honor, so there is no need to register. Russell followed the address written in the announcement and came to the battlefield. There were already many old people sitting in the rest seats in twos and threes.

Almost all of them carried a portable breeding box, and some even brought two or three boxes at once. It didn’t take much thinking to know that those boxes contained stone crickets.

”Old Wang, your old general is almost a year and a half old. These two new ones I got have just grown up. I guess they are no match for you.”

At the entrance of the battle field, two slightly gray-haired men were having a pre-match chat.

The lifespan of stone crickets is not long, and they generally cannot be used for competition before they are fully mature, so the glory period of each cricket is indeed very limited.

If you want to be a victorious general in this square, you have to keep looking for good talents, otherwise the limelight will be stolen by other old men in a few months.

”Why are you so proud? My grandson works in the gardening department and has to go to the fields every day. Last month, I specially asked him to find several seedlings. They are all in good spirits. Today is just the right time for you to learn a lot!”

Hearing the excitement of his old friend, the uncle known as Lao Wang curled his lips and patted the two portable incubators next to him to show that he was not panicked at all.

”Okay, let’s have a fight today, and the loser will get breakfast for a week!”

After a few words of bickering, and seeing that the atmosphere was almost up, the two called the referee to open the field, and then released the stone crickets they carefully selected.

This is the first battle of the day, which naturally attracts the attention of the surrounding fighting friends.

Because the level of the battle was too low, they did not choose to activate the protective force field, and many people walking and exercising around them also gathered around.

Lao Wang’s stone cricket has a dark brown body. Although it is a little short in size, it is very active, as if a newborn calf is not afraid of tigers.

The body of the stone cricket released by Lao Li, who was chatting with him just now, was shiny and black, and there were some slight scratches on the carapace of its head. It looked like it had experienced many battles.

Just like the routine call before the ancient pre-sale competition, the two stone crickets were not in a hurry to fight immediately after meeting. Instead, they moved in circles around the field while constantly chirping to test their opponents.

In the wild, the chirping of pet crickets is the capital of courtship. The louder and crisper the chirping, it proves that the body is in better shape, and naturally it is easier to attract the favor of female stone crickets.

If the chirping can achieve suppression, it can also have the effect of deterring and weakening the opponent’s fighting spirit.

The stone crickets of the two retired uncles chirped at each other for a while, probably because they felt that they were almost equal in terms of their chirping, the veteran with the scratch on his head took the lead.

I saw its front legs waving rapidly, crawling sideways at a slight angle, and then its hind legs kicked off hard, hitting the side of the young stone cricket hard.

Being hit by this strong force and hitting the support point of his body, the young Stone Cricket’s center of gravity suddenly became unstable and he staggered a few steps to the side.

However, this kind of fighting mode that hardly uses skills and relies entirely on body collisions basically does not allow one-shot victory. The young Stone Cricket quickly adjusted his body shape and collided head-on with the veteran who was preparing to pursue the victory.

As the battle intensified, crisp collision sounds and insect chirping sounded one after another. Two stone crickets were fighting fiercely in the field, and the atmosphere outside the field became more and more lively, with boos and boos rising and falling all around.

The two sides fought for more than ten minutes. In the end, the young Stone Cricket couldn’t hold his breath and rushed forward in a hurry. The calm veteran dodged several attacks in a row, and then suffered several heavy blows, which made him dizzy. Dazzled, defeated.

”I lost. It seems that the seedlings in the wild are not as good as those obtained from the breeding farm~”

As the saying goes, friendship comes first and competition comes second. The two of them were friends to begin with, and the promised prize was just a few breakfasts, so the loser had no emotions and made some complaints.

After watching a cricket fight, Russell probably understood the fun of this leisure activity.

Not to mention, although the cricket fighting competition adopts a free battle mode, commanding is not allowed, and the use of beast control talents is not allowed, the fight between the two stone crickets is really exciting and not boring at all.

”Uncles, can I participate in the competition?”

After understanding the basic rules and procedures, he walked to the registration office carrying a portable incubator.

”Of course. Now, we have to recruit new blood for our cricket fight!” The person responsible for registering the results of the cricket fight was also an uncle. He seemed quite happy to see that there were young people coming to participate in the competition.

Hearing this, Russell released a stone cricket he selected from the box.

This little stone cricket’s wings haven’t fully grown yet, and its light brown body still looks a bit immature. It was the first time it came to the square area where there are many pets, and it even had some stage fright. It spent a while testing the entrance of the box. Only then was he willing to climb out.

”Young man, it’s not like I’m relying on my old age to support my old age. You haven’t grown up yet, so why are you using it to fight? Take it back and raise it for another month!”

Seeing Russell bringing a half-grown larva to participate in the competition, the uncle in charge of registration was a little surprised and quickly persuaded him.

”That’s right, if this half-grown cricket is beaten too hard, not only will it affect its development, but it will also become cowardly. In the future, it will not dare to be beaten by others when it is older.”

What he said was very sincere, and Lao Li, who had just won the competition, also echoed it.

”It’s okay. It’s a rare trip. Let’s experience it first.”

But Russell waved his hand and said it didn’t matter. He didn’t care about winning or losing, he just wanted to feel the atmosphere of fighting crickets.

Of course, he didn’t think so in his heart.

Before coming to the competition, Russell commissioned researcher Li Moran to use the standard data of adult stone crickets to test and compare the small crickets in the breeding farm.

He was very satisfied with the test results.

With the blessing of fighting energy, the explosive power of the little stone crickets is no less than that of adult crickets of the same species. Nourished by the energy of the rock system, their carapace hardness even exceeds that of their adult counterparts.

The most important thing is that these stone crickets have not fully grown up yet. Not only are they strong now, they even have room to grow, and their remaining lifespan is also longer. They will definitely be able to make a splash in the square competition.

The so-called publicity is about this contrast effect...

”Okay, I’ll give you a number.”

The cricket fight was just a small fight anyway. Seeing Russell’s insistence, the uncle who signed up didn’t say anything more and turned to ask Lao Li:

”Old Li Tou, you won just now, are you defending now?”

A simple collision between stone crickets would not cause any real damage. They only needed to rest for a while, and there would be no problem if they fought two or three times in a row.

”Anyway, I have nothing to do. Old man, I will warm up with you. Later, I will ask Black Tornado to be gentle. I will not destroy your seedlings.”

Lao Li was also in high spirits at the moment and agreed to Russell’s challenge with a smile.

With that said, he directed the stone cricket called ”Black Whirlwind” to jump onto the battlefield.

The body color of stone crickets is preferably black. Crickets named with black characters are basically good fighters.

When the opponent entered the game, Russell also called the little stone cricket to the opposite side of it.

Considering that Russell was still a novice, Lao Li did not let the ”Black Tornado” adopt too many tactics, but directly faced it head-on.

boom--

After a crisp sound, the little stone cricket caught the blow steadily.

Then, it raised its head slightly, kicked out its hind legs, and slammed back with more courage.

boom--!
Boom--!
Relying on the increase in physical strength brought by the fighting energy, Little Stone Cricket pushed three times in one breath, and actually pushed the ”Black Whirlwind” back several steps from the front.
