Becoming Their Guiding Spirit

# Chapter 25: A Mere Five Million, Nothing Much Lungmen Guard Department.

”What!!”

Like the roar of a she-dragon, Sir Ch’en’s furious shout echoed through the spacious office.

On the sofa across from the desk, the little tiger Swire, also a senior Lungmen superintendent, habitually covered her ears with her hands, waiting for her colleague to finish venting.

”Rice Noodle Dragon, I feel like everyone at the L.G.D. might have gotten it wrong. The superintendent with the loudest voice in the entire department should be you, not me.”

After Sir Ch’en finished roaring.

Swire finally uncovered her ears, picked up the red tea on the table, and muttered a complaint.

To the side, Hoshiguma said nothing, crossing her legs with the air of someone watching a good show.

”You damn punk!!”

Sir Ch’en was furious.

”Who gave you permission to privately hire mercenaries for an L.G.D. mission!! We are the police! The Lungmen Guard Department police! We represent the face of Lungmen. If word gets out that you hired mercenaries to help us carry out a mission, where will we put our face! If Director Wei finds out about this, you’ll definitely be disciplined!”

Swire clicked her tongue.

”You damn dragon! You’re so rigid I want to curse you out!”

”Let me ask you, according to your plan, how do you intend to deal with that big gang in the depths of the slum’s abandoned district? Just send a group of officers to raid them? You’ve sent them before, a large group marching grandly through the slums, and then what? The other side had long since scattered and fled, you couldn’t even find them.”

”And, these guys have real hardware!”

Hoshiguma, who was enjoying the show, nodded: ”Indeed, ordinary gangs can’t possibly get their hands on this kind of stuff. Even if they do, it’s just obsolete junk. But these guys are holding new models. It’s almost certain there’s another country’s power backing them.”

As a former gang boss herself, Hoshiguma knew this all too well.

Swire pressed her advantage.

”You have absolutely no business sense, Rice Noodle Dragon.”

”Let me ask you, what’s the training cost for one combat-ready officer?”

”Two hundred thousand Lungmen Dollars..”

”Do you think twenty-five of them can take down this big gang?”

”Definitely not.”

Sir Ch’en shook her head.

According to Lin Yuhsia’s intelligence, this gang had about a hundred members. Although their individual abilities were far inferior to a regular officer’s, they were crazed and unafraid of death, and they had real weapons. Even if they were taken down, there would surely be sacrifices.

”So there you have it.”

”I spent five million to hire Blacksteel Worldwide for help, and they agreed very readily. How convenient. We don’t have to lift a finger ourselves. And since they’re a small group with unfamiliar faces, we don’t have to worry about them being discovered, and they’re powerful. How can you not understand such a cost-effective deal, you damn dragon?”

Sir Ch’en frowned and suddenly stood up.

”Your family are business people! Of course you see it from a business perspective, but I’m not! Since when did our Lungmen need to rely on foreign mercenaries for help? Anyway... I will not agree to this!”

”Whatever~”

Swire shrugged. She hadn’t intended to convince Sir Ch’en anyway.

”I issued the commission under my personal name anyway. It’s only five million. I’ll pay for it myself, it has little to do with the L.G.D. It won’t bring shame to the L.G.D. Also, if you really care about face, Rice Noodle Dragon, you should go straight to Director Wei and report them, get rid of that bunch of freeloaders under you! Don’t wait until a critical moment like this to realize you don’t have enough elites. You, a high and mighty second-in-command of the L.G.D., are always running around like a junior officer. Is that the face of the L.G.D.?”

That’s harsh...

Hoshiguma clicked her tongue as she watched.

The little tiger officer was indeed sharp. She said whatever was on her mind. This problem had actually appeared long ago, for example, Old Ch’en wandering the slums to catch criminals while a group of superintendents under her were attending parties in the Upper District.

As for these two arguing.

Hoshiguma was long used to it.

Also a senior superintendent, although Sir Ch’en’s position was higher, they were generally at the same level. Coupled with their different educational backgrounds, their philosophies were worlds apart. Swire always thought about problems from a merchant’s perspective, how to accomplish something in the most cost-effective way.

And Sir Ch’en was the exact opposite.

”About time... it should be soon.”

Swire wasn’t in a hurry to leave the office, even though it was originally Sir Ch’en’s office.

After a while, there was a knock on the office door.

Three familiar faces walked in.

”We meet again after just one day, everyone.”

Swire stood up and greeted them very politely, while Hoshiguma had already guessed what was happening when she heard the name Blacksteel Worldwide.

”Oh, Senior~ It’s that loud-voiced superintendent.”

Standing behind Franka, Jessica muttered under her breath.

Of course, she only thought it was under her breath. In fact, everyone present could hear her.

*Pfft...*

Hoshiguma couldn’t help but laugh out loud.

”Miss Swire, thanks to you, our vacation is ruined.”

Franka said, getting straight to the point.

”Then... I can only trouble you. If the mission is completed, I will give the three of you an extra two hundred thousand as a bonus.”

Swire smiled faintly and handed a file to the leading Franka.

And Sir Ch’en, in the main seat, did her best to put away her previous expression after Franka and the others came in. After all, they had helped Lungmen stop a terrorist attack, so they were guests.

”This commission is about a large gang entrenched in the abandoned district. There are about a hundred members in total. If possible, assassinating the gang leader will suffice. It would be even better if you can find out who’s backing them. If you do, I can add more money. This gang has a large number of firearms, including Originium bombs. You need to be careful about that.”

”A hundred people~”

Jessica felt a little worried.

She hadn’t expected such a big job so soon after her promotion. A hundred thugs with firearms and Originium bombs—this was already considered a high-difficulty mission. Even at Blacksteel Worldwide, only elite operators would take it.

”No problem.”

Franka glanced at it casually.

Although this mission was not of low difficulty, it was nothing special in her career. If she couldn’t even complete a mission like this, she wouldn’t be qualified to be called an elite operator.
