Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 1013: Chapter 1007: Sent for Rescue_1

The following day, very early again, Qin Lei and his wife headed off to the street with their goods, but not long after daybreak they noticed something was amiss.

Observing the faces of the people around them, everything seemed unusually heavy

“Excuse me, sir, do you know what’s going on? Why does everyone look so grim?” Qin Lei asked a middle-aged man who was eating breakfast in their shop.

“Ah, didn’t you hear? There’s been an earthquake south of the three neighboring counties. Many people died, and many more have been dispatched to help. I heard my son was among them. Hence, all the worry,” said the man with a sigh. “It’s almost the New Year and we have such unfortunate events occur, it’s hard to celebrate in peace.” He had only learned about the event that morning. Being quite far from the earthquake area, they had felt no tremors, and news travels far slower than catastrophe.

The news broke early this morning. On inquiring further, he discovered even his son had been sent to assist in rescue operations. He heard that others from S Province have also been dispatched to the scene.

“That bad, huh? When did it happen?” When Qin Lei heard this, his heart dropped. This was serious business, even his son-in-law might be asked to help.

“I heard it happened yesterday afternoon. Thankfully it was daytime, many managed to escape. But the casualties were still heavy.” A man from the neighboring table chimed in when he heard Qin Lei and the middle-aged man talking.

As Qin Lei was about to reply, someone called out to him, informing him that there was a telegram for him.

Qin Lei wondered who might be sending him a telegram at this time. Could it be that his children were returning home for the holiday?

With a sense of bewilderment, Qin Lei fetched the telegram to find it was indeed for his son-in-law and daughter, instructing them to go immediately to the disaster area for rescue efforts. He could understand why her husband, but why his daughter as well? What could she do there? She has two young children to care for. Despite his incomprehension, however, Qin Lei had to acknowledge the message and make sure his daughter saw it without delay.

Qin Lei encountered his wife on his return to the shop, briefly explained the situation, and then hurried home. Depending on the scale of the disaster, there might not be any time to delay.

“Molin, Qin Xue, come quickly! You have a telegram,” Qin Lei shouted as soon as he entered his home.

“Dad, what’s the matter? You’re sweating,” Qin Xue said, alarmed to see her father leaning heavily against the door frame, panting and sweating in the cold weather.

“Qin Xue, you have a telegram. There’s been an earthquake near the south of our neighboring county. They want you to assist in the rescue,” Qin Lei said, pulling the telegram out of his pocket and handing it to his daughter.

Qin Xue’s heart skipped a beat. She quickly glanced over the telegram, which indeed ordered her to join the rescue team. It was sent from the Imperial Capital, which meant they knew she and her husband were at her parents’ house for the New Year. With the disaster in their province, she was called upon to help. The emphasis was clearly on Qin Xue’s participation due to her medical skills. She really had no choice but to go.

“Dad, please call grandpa and grandma to help Lele take care of the two kids and take care of Fang Xiu and her child. I will explain the rest when I return.” After reading the telegram, Qin Xue turned towards her own room. She needed to talk with her sister, asking her to help look after the kids. She had no idea when they would return.
