Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 960: Chapter 954: Discussing Going Home_1

Nangong Shulan shook her head as she watched her daughter run off. She used to think her girl was too subdued, but now she found her quite impulsive. Oh, being a mother really meant a never-ending worry for her children.

Her elder daughter was coming home for the New Year, but she had no idea if her son would come too. Her elder son was farther away in S Province than her daughter, so when would he be back?

At this time, Qin Yu was also contemplating when to go home for the New Year. As the year-end approached, business at his store was booming; many people were buying wine to gift, so he was exceptionally busy.

He even hired a classmate to help but packing and managing wine orders, whilst also overseeing client reservations was extremely taxing. He barely had time to catch his breath.

“Xiao Yu, when do you plan on closing the shop and going home for the New Year?” asked the classmate helping Qin Yu.

“I plan on working till the 26th before heading home. If you’re unavailable, you can help me till the evening of the 25th and, I’ll pay you your wages. You can go home and have a good New Year’s then.” Qin Yu paid him a decent wage, twenty-five US dollars for ten days.

“No need. I can wait until you leave to go home.” The classmate quickly declined, waving his hands. He was here to earn tuition fees, and if he returned early, he would lose a day’s wage, which meant less money for his tuition. This really wouldn’t work out. If he did that, he would not have enough money for night school when the new term began. He wanted to study, but his family couldn’t afford to send him to school, so he had to work during the day and study at night.

He hadn’t expected Qin Yu to ask him to help at his store. Only now did he recognize how capable Qin Yu was, owning a store with a thriving business. It made him very envious. He also wanted to work hard, earn money for his studies, and eventually open a store of his own.

“As long as you can manage, it’s fine. I will only be going home for a few days and I’ll then have to restock the shop. We won’t have any goods left at home and once that’s taken care of, I’ll have to go back to school. So, my time is quite tight.” Qin Yu was planning to go home for New Year, thinking his sister might do so too, otherwise, he would stay and revise for his exams. It had been a few months since he’d seen his family, so he also felt like checking in and seeing how they were doing.

“Alright, I’ll leave when you do. I’ll show up for work and class ahead of schedule; otherwise, if work gets delayed, they might not want me anymore.” The classmate knew that work was not something he could dictate. He wasn’t a full-time worker, just a temp. If the employers didn’t want him there, they would simply let him go and he had to work harder because of this.

“Alright, do well. I believe you will do even better in the future and fulfill your dreams,” responded Qin Yu, thinking about himself preparing for the exams to get into a college in the Imperial Capital. He had to work hard, otherwise, he wouldn’t be confident about passing.

“Qin Yu, are you confident about getting into university?” the classmate asked Qin Yu.

“I’m not confident about it now, but the exam is still quite some time away. As long as I work hard, I believe I can pass. I’ve promised my sister and younger sister to pass and join them in the Imperial Capital. So, I can’t afford to fail.” Qin Yu had set a high bar for himself. He had to pass to live up to his sister’s expectations.

“That’s great. Then, I also have to work hard. I want to get into a school in the Imperial Capital and be your classmate again.” The classmate said with a laugh.

“Sure, there will be opportunities. Let’s get back to work now, so we can revise later. Otherwise, once we go home for the New Year, we won’t have time to study.” Qin Yu looked at the dozen or so orders that needed packing. He had to hurry up; if he dawdled, he wouldn’t get anything done.

The two of them stopped talking and started working swiftly, hoping to finish early to study. This was the hope of not just diligent students, but also of poor families.
