Reborn in the Eighties as a Housewife with a Space

Chapter 984: Chapter 978: Go to Watch the Catching of Year Fish_1

After breakfast, Qin Xue and the three sisters each went off to the village pond with a child to watch others fishing.

Qin Xue looked at the rustic and quaint village, its serenity and peace, inducing a calm and peaceful mindset. She thought of it as a viable retreat when city life became weary and burdening.

“LeLe, is there anything unusual happening in the village?” Qin Xue asked her sister.

“Nothing out of the ordinary, but there is a widow who’s been causing a scandal with the men in the village. If you cross paths with her, steer clear, okay?” Qin Jiale advised her older sister.

“Don’t worry, I won’t.” Qin Xue thought, who would want to mingle with such a woman, who always found herself in trouble and scandals? Qin Xue deemed the sister’s concerns a bit excessive.

“Alright, some village people tend to speak harshly. If you hear anything, just ignore them and consider it as mindless chatter.” Qin Jiale gave a heads-up to her sister, to prevent potential unpleasant feelings from any disparaging village talk.

“What kind of talk? Is it about me?” Qin Xue speculated, noticing her sister’s demeanor.

“Hmm.” Qin Jiale paused before confirming in a single syllable.

“What exactly are they saying?” Qin Xue queried, eager to know what the villagers were saying about her and why the old Qin Xue was so despised.

“They’ve been uttering a lot of unpleasant things, sis. Just don’t let it weigh on you and as long as you and your husband are okay, it doesn’t matter what they say.” Qin Jiale had no intention of divulging the specific rumors as hearing them would be distressing.

“Okay, I got it. Where are we headed now?” Qin Xue wasn’t sure of the pond’s location and had to ask her sister.

“Over there.” Qin Jiale led the way, carrying Yu Ze in her arms, while Qin Xue trailed behind with Yu Chen and Fang Xiu’s kids.

“The village seems nice on the whole. I just don’t know what its main source of livelihood is.” Qin Xue mused inwardly, curious whether there were any local specialties.

From a distance, Qin Xue and her companions noticed a buzzing crowd by the pond. The mixed chorus of adult and child voices contributed to the liveliness of the scene.

“Mommy, play.” Jingtao saw many kids and longed to join them.

“No, darling, the area near the pond is too dangerous. You could fall in and drown.” Fang Xiu tenderly denied her son, as the thought of him being pushed into the pond while playing with many other kids was a terrifying prospect.

“Oh.” Jingtao hung his head in disappointment.

“Taotao, we can just watch from here. Soon, they’ll pull up big fish and we’ll get to see it. There’s no need for us to be so close to the pond, right?” Qin Xue found her heart aching at his disappointed look. But given their circumstances—one child each to mind and Fang Xiu’s pregnancy—they could only stand at a safe distance from the pond, not up close.

“Okay.” Jingtao glanced at Qin Xue then at the pond before assenting.

“Good boy, Taotao. Once we bring fish home, Auntie will cook something delicious for you, okay?” Qin Xue was already thinking of making fish balls, depending on the quantity of fish they obtained. If they got plenty, they could make it. Otherwise, with a few fish and so many mouths to feed, it could lead to a who-gets-the-most altercation.

“Okay, brother eat.” Jingtao said, looking at Yu Ze in Qin Jiale’s arms.

“Good, your brother will also eat, and so will our Taotao.” Qin Xue smiled at Jingtao’s willingness to share. Children should be taught to share from a young age to prevent them from developing a selfish nature.
