Officer! You Can Get a First-class Merit Awards Just by Eating Melon Seeds?

Chapter 43: Made a killing! A clear head is all it takes! The next second.

A notification popped up before his eyes.

[Ding! You have opened the challenge card and obtained the rare skill ’Clear Mind’!!!]

Looking at this notification, Chen Mo’s expression shifted from tension to joy, and his heart pounded uncontrollably.

He considered himself quite good at emotional management; he could calmly handle anything, even if he were holding a bomb.

But!

Right now, he really couldn’t calm down!

With a skill worth hundreds of thousands of melon points in his hands, it was hard to stay calm!

— Huhu.

He panted, his face full of joy.

From now on, the higher his Reasoning level rose, the more melon points he would save.

Moreover, the benefits of this skill went without saying; paired with Reasoning, it was a skill practically born for him.

”I’ll be able to test its effects on the next case.”

It was bound to be effective, but he couldn’t test just how good it was yet.

Because the description stated very clearly that this ability could only be triggered when handling a case.

He was filled with anticipation.

Suddenly, it seemed as though he thought of something.

He hadn’t obtained just one challenge card, but two.

Since he had obtained ’Clear Mind’ from this one, what about the other?

Would it be the same reward?

He hurriedly clicked on the inventory page to check the remaining challenge card.

The reward for this challenge card had already changed.

It must have refreshed after he obtained ’Clear Mind’.

”Krav Maga?”

A name popped into his mind: ’Israeli combat system’.

In his past life, while scrolling through video sharing sites, he had come across explanations from content creators.

In the early 60s, to quickly subdue enemies in combat, this fighting style was born by integrating the essence of various martial arts; practicality and efficiency were its synonyms.

But precisely because it was so practical and efficient, with every move striking vital points like the throat, groin, and eyes, it sparked great controversy.

People felt this fighting style was too brutal and shouldn’t exist.

But Chen Mo couldn’t care about all that; he carried a firearm when on duty.

Once there was a scenario where he needed to use Krav Maga, it would most likely be a very dangerous moment.

In such a situation, he wouldn’t bother considering foolish questions like whether it was too lethal.

Krav Maga actually had levels too.

Beginner (P1), Intermediate (P2), Advanced (P3).

These were all student levels; although they were students, by the time they reached the Advanced level, they already possessed the ability to fight off multiple opponents and land a counter-kill.

Going further up was the Expert level; this category usually consisted of elite soldiers in military combat.

But Chen Mo’s was even higher!

Instructor level!

It had already reached the point of teaching others how to become elite soldiers.

The system really rewarded him with good stuff.

He exclaimed in admiration.

Wait...

What am I thinking about!

He rubbed his temples.

He hadn’t even obtained the skill yet, and he was already thinking about future scenarios to use it.

As a criminal police officer, having a form of self-defense martial art was indeed essential.

There would always be scenarios where using a gun wasn’t appropriate.

He liked this too.

He wanted it too.

He took a deep breath and calmed his mood.

For the next case, he would strive to obtain Krav Maga.

Afterwards, he looked at his personal panel.

[Host]: Chen Mo.

[Physique]: 10 (Average person 10).

[Strength]: 10 (Average person 10).

[Skills]: Clear Mind (Rare), Reasoning LV13, Autopsy LV7, Criminal Psychology LV4, Trace Investigation LV4, Micro-expressions LV5.

[Items]: Challenge Card * 1.

[Current melon points]: 6100.

This time, digging up graves with Uncle Wang had earned him a full 1000 melon points, and solving the Human Oil Case had earned him 4300 melon points; the remaining 800 were leftover from last time.

If he had the blessing of the double melon-eating card yesterday, it could have been doubled directly to 12000.

It couldn’t really be called a pity; although the melon-eating card had expired, he had obtained ’Clear Mind’—no matter how he looked at it, he had profited.

What should he upgrade?

He had arrived at this question again.

Micro-expressions had played a huge role in the recent cases.

One could tell from how he managed to ask about the entrance to the basement in just a few sentences.

But Chen Mo felt there was no need to upgrade it further; melon points had to be spent where they mattered most.

Micro-expressions was currently at LV5; unless someone was specially trained, an average person lying in front of him would be spotted at a glance.

In short, it was sufficient for now; continuing to upgrade it would be a waste.

Reasoning definitely had to be upgraded; the Clear Mind ability allowed him to exert strength exceeding the skill level itself by 5 levels or more.

Every upgrade was invisibly earning him melon points.

[Ding! You have spent 4400 melon points to upgrade Reasoning, current LV14!!!]

Another year of learning memories flooded into his mind.

It still felt great.

He still had 1700 left...

Upgrade Trace Investigation?

In the recent cases, this ability hadn’t had any standout performances.

He felt this skill relied on luck, on whether the murderer hadn’t cleaned the crime scene thoroughly.

Finding clues from the subtle details.

[Ding! You have consumed 900 melon points to upgrade Trace Investigation, current LV5!!!]

He still had 800 left. He opened the store and found a skill named ’Criminal Profiling’.

By analyzing the crime scene, he could profile the murderer’s identity, appearance, dominant hand, and everything else, eventually locking onto the culprit.

He had once seen this skill in a movie; it was very strong, very powerful, and very cool.

But in his view, it was a bit like a bottomless pit.

Because Criminal Profiling was all about experience in handling cases; of course, there were techniques involved, but they accounted for a small portion, while experience was the bulk of it.

[Ding! You have spent 600 melon points to upgrade Criminal Profiling, current LV3!!!]

Any remaining melon points in the future could be spent on this.

One day, it would come in handy.

He wouldn’t waste any more time.

He opened the betting agreement to check the progress.

[betting agreement!]

[Task Requirements]: 7 days, handle seven D-level or higher cases.

[Task Rewards]: 20000 melon points, 2 Skill Critical Hit Cards, (with a chance to obtain Hyenas Nose).

[Current Progress]: 4 times (4 / 7).

Three more to go.

The more he looked at Hyenas Nose now, the more he liked it.

Especially since the date to open it was three days later, and his mood grew excited along with it.

If he could obtain both Krav Maga and Hyenas Nose, his strength would truly be significantly enhanced.

Three rare skills.

By then, I will be terrifyingly strong.

His gaze fell back onto the achievement system.

[Achievement]: First Try.

[Task]: Accumulate 6 cases solved within 23 hours.

[Rewards]: double melon-eating card (two days), one bronze chest (100% chance to obtain attribute points).

[Current Progress]: 5 / 6.

No problem, it was just as he had anticipated.

After completing the achievement, he would obtain the two-day double melon-eating card, and at the same time, before it expired, he would complete the betting agreement, realizing the doubling of 20000 melon points to 40000!

Very good, everything was moving in a positive direction.

At the beginning of next month, which was October, it would be time for the ’Sky Eye Project’ pilot city competition.

What they were fighting for wasn’t the quota for the pilot city, but the ranking in this competition.

He wasn’t asking for a top ranking, but he couldn’t be at the bottom; therefore, each province would definitely send their strongest criminal police officers to participate in the competition.

This matter had been surfacing in his mind from time to time recently.

Nothing else; this was an excellent opportunity for him to show his face in front of the provincial leaders.

Once he obtained a good ranking, his future prospects could be said to be bright.

Problems regarding insufficient qualifications for promotion would no longer exist; obtaining a ranking in a national-level competition was solid, tangible qualification.

With his current strength, getting a ranking shouldn’t be a problem.

But if he added the two skills of Krav Maga and Hyenas Nose.

Not to be modest, a top-five ranking was already booked.

During this period, if his strength could surge once more, then he wouldn’t dare not think about fighting for the top three.

Thinking about these things was mainly to sort out his recent goals so he could have a plan.

In the near term, he would complete the First Try achievement, then obtain the double card, double the melon points from the betting agreement, and then obtain the two abilities of Hyenas Nose and Krav Maga as much as possible.

Looking further ahead, that would be the competition next month; during this period, he needed to improve his strength as much as possible, improving as much as he could, to prepare for the competition.
