Chapter 13 The squeaky wheel gets the grease. In the van.

The hearts of the two people sank upon hearing this.

Despite all their precautions, they had failed to stop the killer in the end.

Shen Ying actually knew the killer.

This was a point that had been overlooked before.

Actually, it wasn’t strange when you thought about it; the reason they were able to find Shen Ying was because her bone structure matched the killer’s target.

It didn’t seem impossible that the killer had approached her beforehand.

”Everyone, support me!”

Long Hao picked up the walkie-talkie and shouted.

Several consecutive replies of ”Received” brought Chen Mo back to his senses.

”It’s too late!”

Chen Mo’s expression was serious.

Since the killer knew Shen Ying, the sudden change in her bone structure today would definitely raise his suspicions.

They couldn’t give the killer time to react.

”There’s a bend ahead, ram him!”

Long Hao didn’t ask why; he chose to trust Chen Mo unconditionally.

”Hold on tight!”

—Boom!

The Wuling van’s exhaust roared, and it slammed straight into the back of the taxi ahead.

They needed to exploit a time gap.

They had to strike while the killer was still thinking.

If they waited until the other party realized he was being watched by the police, Shen Ying would be in danger.

The front of the van made intimate contact with the rear of the taxi.

Screech, screech, screech.

The friction between the tires and the ground emitted a teeth-grinding, piercing sound.

Chen Mo felt as if the taxi they had rammed to a stop had lost gravity; it seemed to fly up and spin 360 degrees.

He was dazed by the deployed airbag.

Long Hao fared better than Chen Mo; he pinched his thigh hard, and once he snapped to, he immediately got out of the car and rushed over.

”Don’t move, police!”

He drew his gun from his waist and aimed it at the driver’s seat.

But there was no one there. The killer had somehow already exited from the passenger seat, wearing a hood and holding a knife. He reached through the car window and pressed the dagger against Shen Ying’s neck in the back seat.

”Ah!”

Shen Ying kept leaning her head back. She had just realized what was happening and was terrified to suddenly have a dagger pressed against her!

”Let me go, or I’ll kill...”

Before the hooded man could finish his sentence, a figure flashed from the blind spot behind his left. Chen Mo delivered a flying kick, sending him stumbling several steps backward.

”Or you’ll what?”

Chen Mo held onto the car roof with one hand and looked at the hooded man with disdain.

At the same time, he signaled Long Hao not to fire.

Long Hao nodded but maintained his shooting stance.

After all, the hooded man had a knife; he didn’t dare to be careless.

The hooded man reacted, gripped the knife in reverse, and charged at Chen Mo again without a word.

Chen Mo reached for his waist and slowly pulled out his Type 77 police pistol.

”Good timing.”

—Bang.

He didn’t care if the hooded man had stopped or not.

Chen Mo shot him directly in the leg.

Within seven steps, the gun was fast and accurate!

”Ah!”

A burst of blood erupted from the hooded man’s right leg as he lunged forward. He fell to the ground, clutching his leg and wailing in pain.

Long Hao’s mouth opened, not understanding what Chen Mo meant.

Did telling him not to shoot mean that you would do it yourself?

Chen Mo let out a long breath. That felt good!

It was his first time shooting someone in reality, and it felt quite different from in a game.

—Screech, screech, screech.

Reinforcements arrived at the scene and immediately took the hooded man into the car.

”Captain Long, Brother Mo, are you guys okay?”

Xiao Liu hurried up to the two of them and asked nervously.

Based on the scene, he could tell at a glance what had happened.

The airbags had even deployed.

”Don’t worry about me, get Chen Mo to the hospital immediately. He looks a bit serious.”

Long Hao finished speaking, then signaled for Chen Mo to go to the hospital first, and he would handle the rest with his team.

”I’m fine.”

Chen Mo waved his hand. He had just been dizzy from the impact, but he was fine now.

At this moment, Long Hao leaned into his ear and said:

”Fake it! Even if you’re fine, pretend you’re not. It’ll make it easier to request a commendation for you later!”

”Don’t think I’m being calculating; the crying child gets the candy.”

Actually, no matter where you are, it’s the same principle.

Watching Chen Mo being taken to the hospital by Xiao Liu, Long Hao led his team back to the Municipal Bureau.

In the night, Instructor Yang Jianguo had been waiting for a long time.

”I heard Chen Mo was injured? Is it serious?”

He didn’t even glance at the hooded man; his first reaction was to be concerned about Chen Mo.

It was the concern of an elder for a junior.

”Sigh!”

”It’s too serious!”

Long Hao channeled his inner actor and let out a sigh of helplessness.

It made Instructor Yang Jianguo’s eyelids twitch.

”Is it that serious?”

”Tell me, why did you have to ram them directly at the time?”

”The prerequisite for protecting the public is protecting yourself. If you can’t even protect yourself, how can you talk about protecting the public?”

He began to lecture Long Hao.

”We had no choice; the killer knew Shen Ying.”

”We didn’t dare give him time to react!”

Instructor Yang Jianguo swallowed the words that were about to follow.

”Chen Mo contributed quite a bit to this case, and now he’s injured...”

He didn’t finish his sentence; everyone knew how asking for credit worked anyway.

”Hmm, I’ll keep this matter in mind.”

”Let’s interrogate him first.”

Long Hao nodded and led his team into the interrogation room.

—Click.

The interrogation chair closed with a crisp sound.

The blinding desk lamp shone on the man’s face.

The hood was removed. He looked to be about 25 years old. His expression was strange right now—not crying, not happy, but he lowered his head slightly and stared at Long Hao, smiling sinisterly.

It was very eerie.

”Why did you kill people?”

Long Hao felt nothing about this expression. Once you’re in the interrogation chair, you have to behave, whether you’re a tiger or a dragon.

”Guess,” the man said. His voice was hoarse, the kind of hoarseness caused by overusing one’s throat.

A common symptom of mental illness is that emotional fluctuations are many times greater than those of an ordinary person; even a little bit of happiness can make them shout and scream.

And having beaten the police twice before, according to Chen Mo’s logic, he must have been incredibly happy.

The reason for the hoarse throat was found.

Long Hao was stunned for a moment. Had he been with Chen Mo so long that his brain was working faster too?

”I guess?”

The man’s files had all been retrieved.

Name: StringBuilder, Age: 25. Graduated with an art degree. He had once personally killed his girlfriend and was arrested by the police, but because of mental illness, he was exempted from the death penalty.

It was originally intended to care for these special groups, but it unexpectedly became a protection ordinance for mentally ill murderers.

People like StringBuilder should have died a long time ago.

”Hahaha!”

The hoarse laughter suddenly rang out, as if he had thought of something happy.

He began to talk to himself: ”Do you know how happy they were when the two of them saw the knife in my hand?”

”Hysterical begging, begging me not to hit them again, begging me not to cut off their legs, hahaha!”

”Their screams were like beautiful music. Whenever those images flash in my mind, I feel a pleasure in my soul. Do you want to try it?”

”Kill me, you! Come and kill me!”
