Chapter 24: Another D+ Case, ’Rage’!September 4, Thursday.

”Why!”

”Why on earth!!!”

Uncle Wang clutched his head with both hands, his face showing a look of pain.

His eyes were filled with confusion and bewilderment.

He slowly stood up from his prone position in front of the manhole cover, looking at Chen Mo beside him with an expression of utter grievance.

Beneath the manhole cover, a female corpse lay at this moment.

Half an hour ago, he received new information that a female college student in the South District had given birth at home and, after giving birth, had thrown the baby directly into the toilet and flushed it away.

Naturally, he wanted to see such a thing, and he had to bring Chen Mo along to see it too.

Because they arrived late, they only got to see the leftovers, but unwilling to give up, he lay in front of the manhole cover and looked inside, curiosity getting the better of him, as he tried to see the flushed baby inside.

But he didn’t see the baby; instead, he saw a female corpse.

How ridiculous!

”Calm down.”

Chen Mo rubbed his temples; this was truly bizarre.

Every time he went to watch the commotion these past few days, he always ended up finding a corpse.

Could Uncle Wang himself be plagued by bad luck?

Otherwise, how could one explain it happening time and time again?

It must be; he should take some time to let him go to a temple and pray.

Uncle Wang, however, thought the opposite of Chen Mo.

He believed that Chen Mo was the one plagued by bad luck, and that this kid must have mishandled cases, thus implicating him.

He needed to find a time to make Chen Mo go to a temple to pray and ward off evil spirits, Uncle Wang thought.

—Wee-woo, wee-woo.

Several Municipal Bureau police cars drove over and stopped downstairs at the residential building.

As soon as Long Hao got out of the car and saw Uncle Wang standing with Chen Mo, he let out a sigh.

Great.

These two must have come to watch the commotion again.

Waving his hand, Xiao Liu walked straight up and grabbed Uncle Wang by the arm.

”Let’s go, sir. Next time, be proactive; don’t always make me urge you.”

Xiao Liu said with a grin.

He had lost count of how many times he had sent this old man to the detention room.

”Xiao Chen, you have to stand up for me!”

Uncle Wang looked at his arm being dragged, wanting to cry but having no tears, and kept shouting that he was innocent.

This time, Chen Mo didn’t remain silent and spoke up:

”I can testify that bumping into the corpse this time was just a coincidence.”

As soon as he finished speaking, Xiao Liu immediately released Uncle Wang’s arm, and Long Hao also responded immediately.

Times were different now; although Chen Mo’s police rank and the like hadn’t been promoted yet, after handling three cases, his status had been subtly rising.

Of course, the main reason was also that Uncle Wang really had no suspicion; even if something was discovered later, it wouldn’t be difficult to bring him back.

”Hmm, then just take him back for questioning.”

Watching Uncle Wang being taken away by Xiao Liu, Chen Mo retracted his gaze.

”Have you seen the body?”

As Long Hao spoke, the Trace Technician had already gone down to take photos, and after that, the body could be brought up.

”Not yet. As soon as I discovered the body, I called you.”

As he spoke, Chen Mo looked at the panel in front of him.

[Host’s melon-eating progress detected at 30%, rewarding 300 melon points!!!]

[double melon-eating card triggered, melon points doubled!!!]

It was a pity; he arrived a bit late this time, and by the time he arrived, only the melon rind was left.

He didn’t feel sorry about the few melon points he obtained.

After all, there were 40,000 melon points waiting for him.

But he felt sorry for not seeing the whole process.

[New melon ’Fury’ detected, do you want to eat it?]

[Melon Name]: Fury.

[Task Rating]: D+ level.

[Task Reward]: 1-5000 melon points.

[Task Deadline]: 24 hours (timer started).

Another D+; it seems this case isn’t simple either.

He withdrew his gaze and said again.

”However, throwing the body into the sewer isn’t a good choice.”

After a person dies, their immune system stops working, bacteria begin to multiply rapidly, and the stench of the corpse will drift out through the manhole cover within two days.

If one says the killer wanted to hide the body, they chose such an easily discovered place.

If one says they didn’t want to hide the body, they still threw it into the sewer.

Was it intentional?

Did the killer never intend to hide it from the police?

Did they just need to buy two days of time before the police discovered it?

Or was their cognition relatively low, having no concrete concept of the corpse stench emitted after death, thus thinking that throwing it here would make everything fine?

At this moment, the Trace Technician had already finished taking photos of the scene, the body was being carried out, and a cordon had been set up downstairs at the unit building, surrounded by tarpaulins to prevent people from seeing the specific situation and causing a commotion.

Because the manhole was relatively small and square, they could only arrange for people to lift from below and others to pull from above.

Thanks to the deceased being female and having a lighter weight, she was pulled up in one go.

And the condition of the body came into Chen Mo’s view.

Tragic!

Very tragic!

A black pair of scissors was inserted into each of the deceased’s eyeballs, blood flowed down from the temples, and over time, it formed blood scabs that didn’t fall off even after being pulled up from the sewer; one could imagine the killer had inserted them very deeply.

And at the mouth and cheeks, a long wound had been cut, looking at first glance as if the deceased was smiling; the sunken chest was covered with knife marks and minced flesh left by violent hacking with a kitchen knife, and looking further down, the lower body was the same...

—Hiss.

The sound of gasping for air came from the mouths of one police officer after another.

To brutalize a person like this, how much enmity, how much hatred must there be!

”Immediately investigate the identity of the deceased!”

Long Hao signaled Xiao Zhang to hurry up.

At the same time, he looked at Chen Mo: ”I think it’s a grudge killing, what do you think?”

”I have only seen this kind of killing method when there is deep enmity between the killer and the deceased.”

He recalled similar cases he had handled in the past.

”Hmm, that’s very likely.”

”Every knife strike from the killer seemed to be venting the grievances, fury, and unwillingness in their heart, hacking from head to toe; it looks like they hated the deceased to the extreme!”

Except for the face, which was still relatively intact and could barely be identified, from the neck down, one could basically only see minced flesh after being hacked.

Wait a minute...

Why did the killer specifically not hack the face?

Chen Mo kept tapping his thigh with his index finger, his face showing a thoughtful look.

Two clues could be derived from the wounds on the deceased.

First, the killer hated the deceased to the extreme; second, the killer had enough time to abuse the corpse when committing the crime.

With plenty of time and hating the deceased so much, they should have hacked everything.

Leaving the face intact must have a reason.

”Is it possible that the deceased did something that angered both heaven and man, and the killer just wanted to let everyone see her true face?”

Long Hao said hesitantly. He wasn’t talking nonsense; normally, when someone does something very bad to you, most people would choose to let the whole world see that person’s true colors.

Similar things can be referenced, like a husband cheating with a mistress, and the wife hanging a banner to announce it to the world.

Chen Mo nodded; this possibility existed.

After all, the greatest function of the face is to identify a person’s identity.

The killer probably wanted the police to know the identity of the deceased, or perhaps to let the police understand what this person had done before.

”Captain, Brother Mo, the deceased’s information has been found!”

Xiao Zhang ran over from behind in a hurry.
