Chapter 15 Public Security Sky Eye: Pilot City Plan.An honorific?

A smile appeared on Sun Yuanyuan’s face.

It was incomprehension, it was disbelief.

In her impression, Chen Mo was just a person who lacked ambition and would always crowd around wherever there was excitement.

How could such a person deserve an honorific?

”It seems you’ve been brainwashed by him.”

”Oh well, I’ll think of another way myself.”

After saying this, she left.

However, endless anger surged in her heart.

Why was Chen Mo targeting her like this?

We’ve broken up; you go your way, and I’ll go mine.

Even if you don’t help, there’s no need to kick someone when they’re down, right?

So, she was right back then; he still hadn’t moved on from their past relationship, had he?

She shook her head. With such a low capacity for accepting change, he would hardly achieve anything great in the future.

At the same time, she felt even more relieved about having broken up with him.

Compared to being unable to get a promotion, it was clearly much more terrifying to continue being with someone like Chen Mo who had no future.

”My calculation won’t be wrong.”

She cast her gaze toward a hospital room on the third floor.

”He’ll stop at First-Class Police Superintendent before retirement at best.”

...

The night passed in a flash.

In the blink of an eye, the sun was high in the sky.

Uncle Wang walked into the hospital room carrying a flower basket and some fruit.

”I was supposed to come see you yesterday, but it was already past three when I got out of the detention room, and I figured you would be asleep...”

He explained why he hadn’t come directly last night.

Chen Mo didn’t mind, took a washed apple, and started eating it.

While eating, he said: ”My fault. Actually, I had already ruled you out as the killer, but I forgot. Otherwise, I would have had you released long ago.”

In fact, when he was in Yang Nuan’s bathroom and learned that the killer had struck again, he had completely ruled out Uncle Wang’s suspicion.

At the time, he was too focused on analyzing the case and had forgotten about him.

”You make it sound like one word from you could have gotten me released.”

Uncle Wang’s face showed an expression that said, ’You kid are acting cocky again.’

Considering Chen Mo was injured, he quickly changed the subject.

”Right, where exactly are you hurt?”

Chen Mo didn’t intend to hide it upon hearing this; after all, the two shared a revolutionary friendship.

In a few words, he explained the reason he was lying in the hospital.

”Good lad, you’ve got the same quick-wittedness I had when I was young!”

”I knew it. You’re such a well-behaved lad, how could you have gotten injured in the line of duty?”

Chen Mo: ...

No, what on earth did the original body do to make Uncle Wang think he was so timid and fearful?

In his memories, the original body hadn’t said anything that would lead Uncle Wang to misunderstand him like that.

”So, I’m supposed to be the type who hides at the very back when there’s danger?”

”And pops out only when there’s credit to be claimed?”

Uncle Wang nodded repeatedly upon hearing this, his expression saying, ’Isn’t that exactly what you’re doing now?’

Clearly not injured, but seeing there was credit to be had, he went straight to the hospital.

Chen Mo was choked up. He wanted to say that he had made a major contribution to this case!

But after thinking about it, he swallowed the words back; nobody would believe him anyway. The stereotype was too deeply ingrained.

The two chatted about other people’s gossip, and before they knew it, it was noon.

Uncle Wang indicated he was going home to cook and told Chen Mo to taste his cooking at noon before leaving.

No sooner had he left than Instructor and Long Hao walked in.

Chen Mo immediately perked up; he knew very well that these two weren’t here to visit him, but to present him with his rewards.

”How is it? With the young nurse keeping you company, isn’t the bed here more comfortable than the one at home?”

Instructor Yang Jianguo wore a teasing smile, not putting on any airs of a leader at all, and joked with Chen Mo.

To be honest, having a gentle-tempered, witty, and humorous leader was a very comfortable thing.

Chen Mo had a very good impression of him.

”So, is the reward this time the young nurse?”

”Hahaha!”

Both Yang Jianguo and Long Hao let out hearty laughs.

A moment later, the smiles faded.

”Let’s talk business first.”

”According to our discussion, your rewards are as follows: a commendation within the police station and a cash reward of 1,000 yuan.”

After saying this, Yang Jianguo closed his notebook and looked at Chen Mo.

Huh? That’s it?

Chen Mo pursed his lips, not knowing what to say for a moment.

Just these two sentences, and he even wrote them down; what a waste.

The purchasing power of 1,000 yuan in this era was 10 times that of later generations, which could be understood as 10,000 yuan.

It was indeed not bad.

As for the internal commendation from the police station, that thing didn’t have much substantial effect.

It could at least be written on his resume, but this kind of internal commendation didn’t really have much weight.

”Instructor Yang, is there anything else?”

He asked this hesitantly.

It didn’t make sense; if it was just this, he could have earned it without being hospitalized.

”Haha, there is!”

”I knew you’d have that expression.”

Instructor Yang chuckled to himself, and Chen Mo felt somewhat speechless.

He took back his previous words; he still preferred a more old-fashioned leader.

”The last reward is actually a nomination spot within the Municipal Bureau.”

”Our country’s various industries are currently booming, there is a lot of foreign investment, the economy is rising significantly, and public security is being given more attention.”

”Therefore, the higher-ups have launched a project called the ’Public Security Sky Eye System,’ which is essentially installing surveillance cameras at every intersection. You understand what I mean by that, right?”

”However, funds are limited, and nobody knows what the actual results will be, so they have asked the Public Security Department of each province to take the lead in assembling a team to compete. The winner will be designated as a Pilot City.”

After saying this in one breath, Yang Jianguo waited quietly for Chen Mo to digest the information.

He wasn’t a child anymore, and since it was all in Chinese, Chen Mo naturally understood it and was very clear about what the Public Security Sky Eye System was.

In later generations, police investigations were basically inseparable from the Sky Eye System.

It also largely curbed illegal activities like fighting and faking accidents.

It significantly improved social security.

”Are many places competing for the Pilot City spot?”

Chen Mo asked the question in his heart, and immediately understood the answer.

This shouldn’t just be a matter of being a Pilot City, because many insiders knew that having surveillance was good, but they didn’t have a concept of just how good.

Securing the Pilot City spot was, to a certain extent, like taking first place in the country.

From this perspective, it was indeed quite important for every province; nobody wanted to be at the bottom.

Instructor Yang’s explanation was more or less the same as what Chen Mo had thought.

”There are also many hidden benefits, let Long Hao explain them to you; he has joined.”

Long Hao, who hadn’t spoken until now, nodded and began to explain.

Chen Mo’s eyes grew brighter as he listened.

The competition didn’t have many overt benefits, but the hidden ones were numerous.

The hidden benefits included connections, resources, seniority, and so on...

Especially seniority, which would be of huge help to his promotion within the province.

Regardless of whether they won in the end, being nominated by the Municipal Bureau as a member already demonstrated good ability in itself.

Not to mention the seniority gained after winning the competition.

”I have already submitted your information. The assembly time is in one month; at that time, you and Long Hao just need to go to the provincial capital to report.”

Chen Mo nodded. This time, Instructor Yang had truly given him a surprise.

If he performed a bit more brilliantly and achieved a ranking, his future path would basically be smooth sailing.

And one month later.

My strength should be even more formidable!

Getting a ranking shouldn’t be a problem!
