Officer! You Can Get a First-class Merit Awards Just by Eating Melon Seeds?

Chapter 8 I’m in danger! Help me!!!The next day.

The Mu City Municipal Bureau.

The entire morning was spent wrapping up the Wang Guodong case.

Chen Mo received affirmation from both Long Hao and the Instructor.

His promotion from a Second-class Police Officer to a Third-class Police Superintendent could be arranged within this week.

He was quite gratified by this. Under normal circumstances, promotion from a police officer to a Third-class Police Superintendent generally required a one-year probationary period. Yet, having only been on the job for half a year, he had skipped the probation and was directly promoted to Third-class Police Superintendent.

This showed that the higher-ups valued him.

”Brother Mo, the guard room at the entrance just called and said someone is looking for you.”

Xiao Liu put down the phone receiver and looked at Chen Mo.

Looking for me?

It was twelve noon; who could be looking for him?

Sun Yuanyuan?

She was the only person he could think of.

After nodding to indicate he understood, he walked toward the door.

If it were Sun Yuanyuan, perhaps she had come to apologize for what she said yesterday.

But he certainly wouldn’t choose to forgive her, nor would he help her.

Just as he reached the door, he realized he had guessed wrong.

Standing at the entrance was someone he hadn’t expected, yet it made sense.

Wang Wu, Uncle Wang!

Before he even got close, he noticed the anxious look on the other man’s face.

Chen Mo immediately realized something.

New melon!

There was more drama to watch, and it was urgent.

”Quick! Come with me to the East District!”

”Do you remember the family that moved out from downstairs in your building?”

Chen Mo thought back and nodded to show he remembered.

It seemed their surname was Liu. Their son had found success working in another city and was planning to get married and move into a larger house. Before leaving, he had greeted the neighbors, though in reality, he was just showing off.

”What happened?”

”That family’s surname is Liu. Their eldest son is in his twenties and went to Sichuan Province to work. Last month, he notified his family that he was bringing his bride back from out of town to get married.”

”Guess what happened?”

”He did bring a bride back, but when they took a look, it was a man—acting all sissy!”

A gay couple!

Chen Mo’s curiosity was instantly piqued.

In the more open future, as long as it wasn’t done in a flashy way, people’s acceptance of such things was quite high.

But this was 2002; nobody could accept something like this.

Especially not the old-fashioned older generation.

”And then?”

”His son took his male bride and went to stay in a hotel, and now they are preparing to go home to sit down and discuss it with the family.”

”I bet there’s going to be a good show this time. Let’s hurry; if we’re late, there won’t be any spots left.”

[New melon ’Male Bride’ detected!]

[You have chosen to eat the melon, countdown 24 hours.]

[double melon-eating card activated.]

...

Ten minutes later.

The two arrived outside a three-story villa in the East District.

At this moment, the entrance and the walls were crowded with people, from elderly men and women in their sixties and seventies to teenagers, all trying every possible way to peer into the courtyard.

The two searched for a long time but couldn’t find a good spot.

The main issue was that Uncle Wang was too short. Gritting his teeth in frustration, he went to the neighbor’s house to borrow a stool.

Standing higher, the view was better.

During this time, many shocking things happened for the onlookers.

For example, Old Liu’s son shouted that he loved the male bride by his side and would marry no one else.

In today’s society, this was jaw-dropping.

Then came the beating of his son. The male bride cried while calling Old Liu ’Dad,’ begging him to stop.

The result was that he was beaten even harder.

Later, when the local police station officers arrived, the farce finally ended.

[Host’s melon-eating progress detected at 70%, reward: 700 melon points!!!]

[double melon-eating card triggered, melon points doubled!!!]

Listening to the voice in his mind, a smile appeared on Chen Mo’s lips.

He casually upgraded his Autopsy ability from LV4 to LV5.

”Hmm, not bad, it’s just that the police came too quickly.”

Uncle Wang’s voice, filled with gratification and satisfaction, sounded from his left.

Chen Mo also quite liked this bit of drama.

He could gossip and earn melon points at the same time.

It was awesome!

”Where did you get this stool? Do you have acquaintances here too?”

His gaze fell on the stool under Uncle Wang’s feet.

”I got it from next door; come with me to return it.”

Chen Mo nodded, and the two walked to the door of the house next door.

The courtyard gate opened as soon as he pushed it.

”This gate was locked before, but the key was still in the lock, so I opened it.”

Uncle Wang spoke without blushing or missing a beat; this could potentially be considered theft.

But he had his own reasoning: the key was forgotten, so he was helping to look after it, and borrowing a stool was mutually beneficial—it wasn’t a problem.

”Oh right, I don’t know how to read. Take a look at what’s written on this.”

He suddenly remembered something and quickly pulled an A4-sized piece of paper from his pocket.

There was a hole at the top, likely where the key had been threaded through.

[I’m in danger, come save me!!!]

Chen Mo’s eyelid twitched.

He didn’t know whether he should be happy about having a case or sad about the situation of the person who wrote the note.

”Clap, clap.”

After throwing the stool into the courtyard, Uncle Wang clapped his hands and prepared to leave.

But meeting Chen Mo’s gaze made his heart skip a beat.

He felt like something bad was about to happen.

”You’re in trouble.”

After Chen Mo said this, he walked directly toward the villa.

The villa was three stories high, and the two were currently in the courtyard.

”Xiao Chen, I’m at my age, please don’t scare me.”

Uncle Wang asked anxiously, following behind Chen Mo.

He didn’t understand what was going on, but seeing the paper in Chen Mo’s hand, he had a rough idea.

He should have studied hard when he was in school!

Chen Mo didn’t have time to pay attention to him at all.

He opened the living room door and walked in first.

Judging by the handwriting on the paper, it was most likely written by a woman.

The strange thing was, if she was in danger, how did she manage to leave the note and the key at the entrance?

A prank?

But the handwriting was clearly that of an adult.

The first floor was the living room, the second floor had entertainment facilities like a computer and a pool table, and the third floor had the bedrooms.

Chen Mo pushed open the doors one by one to search, finally fixing his gaze on the door of the master bedroom.

”What are you looking for?”

Uncle Wang’s voice suddenly sounded from behind him.

”Looking for the person who lives in this house.”

—Creak.

He pressed the door handle and walked in.

The master bedroom was very large. Directly in front was a clean vanity, and the bed was covered with pink sheets and various dolls and plush toys.

At a glance, nothing seemed strange; it was very normal.

But Chen Mo felt more and more that something was wrong.

It was more like intuition!

He came to the bedside, slowly bent down, and looked under the bed.

The note must have been placed there recently, otherwise, it wouldn’t have been Uncle Wang who found it.

He looked under the bed, inch by inch.

—Ah!!!

A spine-chilling scream exploded in his ears!!!

Chen Mo slowly turned his head...
