Chapter 21 yields a crucial clue. One hour later.

The clock on the wall struck four in the afternoon.

The approximate amount of money Xu Qiang had lent out had also been investigated.

It wasn’t as much as imagined, but it was still a significant sum.

He lent out about 100,000 a month, which would be equivalent to 1 million in purchasing power in later generations.

For a small-time thug like Xu Qiang, he would never have been able to come up with that kind of money.

This made Chen Mo even more certain that the money Xu Qiang used for lending was actually provided by the killer.

And the killer’s goal was to manipulate Xu Qiang into driving the families of Li Dong and the other person to their deaths, and then carry out the subsequent framing plan.

”Captain, Brother Mo, while I was investigating, I discovered that many of the borrowers had been beaten by Xu Qiang.”

”After getting beaten up, they were all coincidentally sent to Central Hospital, which is the same one you, Brother Mo, stayed at.”

”Do you think this clue is useful?”

Xiao Liu wasn’t sure, so he simply stated the whole situation.

”I actually don’t think this is anything; the money lender’s ultimate goal is to collect debts, not to beat people to death, or it would really turn into bad debt.”

”I think Xu Qiang probably just wanted to use his fists to threaten them; once he established a reputation, the rate of bad debt would naturally be lower.”

Long Hao considered the matter of Xu Qiang sending people to the hospital after beating them up from the perspective of a money lender.

Upon hearing this, Xiao Liu and his partner also felt that it made sense.

This clue probably wasn’t of any use.

But Chen Mo had a different opinion.

”Wait...”

”This matter can not only be viewed from the perspective of a money lender, but also from the perspective of the killer.”

”The operation was three years later; as the killer, he certainly wouldn’t want Xu Qiang to go to jail for something like murder before the plan, which would be inconsistent with the killer’s goal.”

”Therefore, to ensure that Xu Qiang didn’t have any accidents during this period, he would definitely find a way to provide a safety net.”

”And the act of sending people to the hospital after beating them up was actually providing that safety net.”

”The killer is very likely a doctor at Central Hospital.”

Chen Mo’s series of deductions left Long Hao and the other two stunned.

Aren’t we discussing the matter of sending people to the hospital?

How did you deduce the identity of the killer?

But thinking about it carefully, it wasn’t without merit.

If the killer really was a doctor, then committing the crime in the morgue would actually be much more convenient compared to others.

And providing a safety net for the killer would obviously be more secure if the injured person was sent to their own hospital.

Time slipped away quietly.

Five in the afternoon.

Chen Mo brought his team to Central Hospital.

The hospital was very busy at this time.

Everyone headed straight for the Dean’s office.

According to the information gathered, the dean of this hospital had suddenly become famous two and a half years ago.

The public called him ’Benevolent’ Dean Cai.

What a coincidence!

Just as the killer was planning to provide a safety net for Xu Qiang’s frequent beatings, the benevolent Dean Cai appeared out of nowhere.

He announced that he would provide initial free treatment for patients in need of emergency care.

”Looking at it this way, Dean Cai is highly suspicious; he completely fits the profile of someone who is wealthy and capable of providing a safety net for Xu Qiang.”

Chen Mo nodded, but he didn’t hold much hope.

Hospitals are similar to companies; whenever there is a major resolution, a vote is required.

Before coming, he had also looked at Dean Cai’s profile.

He didn’t see any sign of benevolence in the person himself; this was the only thing worth praising.

Ten minutes later, Long Hao came out with his men.

The result was similar to what Chen Mo had thought.

Dean Cai himself didn’t have much benevolence, but the hospital needed a promotional angle, so they built him up and created a ’benevolent’ persona for him.

But the trip wasn’t in vain; they got a list of the people who had passed this resolution.

There were ten people in total, including the vice dean and the directors of several other departments.

And the killer was basically one of these ten people.

Half an hour later.

In the hospital conference room.

”Captain, Brother Mo, the information on these ten people has been checked.”

”This Emergency Surgery Director named Ma Shuang is quite suspicious.”

Long Hao and Chen Mo took the documents respectively.

Name: Ma Shuang, female, 35 years old, Mensa member, Emergency Surgery Director, married; her child died in a truck accident three years ago on September 1st.

And September 1st was exactly the day the deceased Xu Qiang was hit and killed by the killer.

It matched.

The surgery director had money and the ability to provide a safety net for Xu Qiang, while being a Mensa member corresponded to high intelligence.

”Let’s make the arrest.”

Chen Mo gave the order directly.

...

Muhe Municipal Bureau.

In the interrogation room.

Xiao Liu’s action was very swift; Ma Shuang was working at the hospital, so basically, as soon as the order was given, she was caught.

Ma Shuang sat in the interrogation chair wearing a white coat, keeping her head down and remaining silent; her hair was full of white, and she looked 10 years older than her actual age.

”Why did you kill Xu Qiang?”

Xiao Liu and Xiao Zhang were still responsible for the interrogation, while Chen Mo and Long Hao stood outside watching.

”Speak! I’m asking you why you killed Xu Qiang.”

Xiao Zhang slammed the table and let out a roar.

”Look, these are all the evidence of your crimes: murder, framing, forcing Xu Qiang to kill!”

Ma Shuang slowly raised her head, which had been buried in her chest. After taking off her mask, it was obvious that not only had her hair turned white, but the wrinkles on her face were more than what a 35-year-old should have.

She looked at the evidence and gave up resisting.

”I... I want to save someone.”

She looked aggrieved, tears glimmering in her eyes, her hands curled together, looking as pitiful as could be.

This scene was too sudden, causing the originally furious Xiao Zhang’s tone to falter.

A murderer saying she killed to save someone?

It was too dissonant.

”Oh? Who do you want to save?”

A mocking voice rang out.

Xiao Zhang and Xiao Liu didn’t believe such nonsense at all.

”I want to save my child, I want to save him. Killing Xu Qiang will revive my son.”

”There are four days left until seven days, believe me, I really am saving someone!”

Revive her son?

A chill ran from the spine to the top of the head.

If he remembered correctly, Ma Shuang’s son had died three years ago, and his head had been run over directly by a truck.

How to save him?

Can cutting off Xu Qiang’s head save him?

Wait...

So?

Cutting off Xu Qiang’s head was to perform a head transplant for her dead son!!?

God!

The air in the interrogation room dropped several degrees out of thin air.

”Your son has been dead for three years. What do you want to do with Xu Qiang’s head?”

Xiao Zhang asked after calming down.

”I didn’t cremate my son; he has been waiting for me to find him a new head.”

”I found it, my son can be revived.”

”Hehehe.”

A strange laugh suddenly came from Ma Shuang’s mouth, and her eyes changed to look like those of a mental patient.

Eerie.

This scene was as eerie as it could be.

Outside the interrogation room.

Chen Mo spoke.

”Let’s go, let’s go to her house and take a look.”
