85: Chapter 85 Acquiring a Gym[daily intelligence 02]

Inside a trash can located approximately 100 meters along the roadside near *** Lianshan Road, a Bandai-produced Ultra Six Brothers SHF Super Action Figure Deluxe Edition with cape was abandoned two hours ago. Zhang Wei frowned, feeling like the keywords ’Lianshan Road trash can’ sounded familiar. He tapped to open the video. A couple was seen having a huge argument in their house. The man, unable to contain his anger, stormed out, slamming the door.

His wife sat in the living room, still nagging incessantly: ”You don’t do any proper work all day, just fiddle with those toys. Your salary is so little it’s not even enough for me to buy a bag, and you dare to lose your temper? Seems I need to teach you a lesson.” With that, she got up, went to a display cabinet, stuffed several Ultraman figures into a plastic bag, and went out.

Zhang Wei slapped his forehead, remembering he had previously retrieved a set of gold saints figures also found in a trash can on Lianshan Road. Could it be from this same guy?

”Don’t worry, bro, I’ll help you kick this figure addiction.” Zhang Wei silently felt a pang of sympathy for the poor guy for a second, then prepared to go out later to snag the deal.

[daily intelligence 03] The little japanese Mitsui conglomerate recently purchased a plot of land in X City Name in the northwest under the guise of investment and business attraction, planning to build a shopping mall. However, as early as the end of the War of Resistance, before their surrender, the little japanese secretly buried a Western Jin Dynasty polychrome buddha head in this old district. The Mitsui conglomerate has now secretly excavated it and plans to smuggle it back to their country. Currently, the buddha head is stored in a safe within the Mitsui conglomerate’s branch building in City Name. Detailed location coordinates and a related video have been sent to your phone, Host. Please check it.

Zhang Wei opened the video. Several short, sleazy-looking little japanese were in a luxurious office. A glass box sat on the table in the center of the room, containing a buddha head. The carving was exquisite, the Buddha’s face vivid and lifelike, though the colors had faded and peeled with age. It was about the size of a watermelon.

The little japanese chattered for a bit. The bearded man leading them laughed a few times, then placed the buddha head back into the safe.

The video ended there. Watching it, Zhang Wei couldn’t help but feel furious. How many years has it been since these little japanese surrendered, and they still covet our cultural relics?

After some thought, he decided to hand it over to Zuo Hemei. After all, diplomacy is no trivial matter; if he messed it up, it would be the nation’s face that was lost.

He sent the video from his phone to Zuo Hemei, along with a voice message briefly describing the situation. Not long after, his phone rang.

”Officer Zuo, you’re still awake? I was worried I’d disturb your rest.”

Zuo Hemei really wanted to tell him she had been asleep and was woken up by his video and voice message. But since Zhang Wei was discussing official business, she had to bear with it.

”Leave this matter alone. We will investigate the case tonight. As long as it hasn’t left the country, we will definitely recover the important cultural relic.”

Zhang Wei wanted to remind her not to be careless, as these little japanese had been scheming since before their WWII surrender—they were surely cunning. But seeing Zuo Hemei so confident, he didn’t say much, only hoping the pursuit would go smoothly.

With official business handled, Zhang Wei, having slept from afternoon until now, wasn’t tired at all. He grabbed his keys and headed out to retrieve the Ultraman figures.

Half an hour later, familiar street, familiar trash can. Zhang Wei smoothly found a plastic bag, just like last time. Inside were six Ultraman figures wearing red capes, with some scattered parts beside them.

Without hesitation, Zhang Wei stuffed the items into his car and drove off.

Meanwhile, about 100 meters from the trash can by the roadside, a man came running over, panting heavily.

”That bitch is vicious. I’ll teach her a lesson when I get back today.”

Muttering to himself, he saw a car parked near the trash can. A young man was just getting in. A sense of foreboding washed over him.

The man shouted, ”Wait! Please wait!”

But he was too far away. The young man got in the car and soon disappeared into the thick Night Color.

The man ran to the trash can, unwilling to give up, and rummaged through it for a long time. Finally, he looked up to the sky and roared, ”Sun Hongmei, you bitch, you threw away my figures! I’m filing for divorce first thing tomorrow!”

Unaware that his actions had caused a marital breakdown, Zhang Wei drove through the midnight streets, which seemed to possess a magical power, giving him the peculiar feeling that everyone else was asleep while he alone was awake.

He stepped on the gas and drove to Yicheng’s building, went upstairs, and knocked. After a while, Yicheng opened the door, looking slightly surprised.

”Why are you here at this hour?”

Zhang Wei chuckled and replied, ”The moonlight is so bright tonight, perfect for dual cultivation, don’t you think?” With that, he picked up Yicheng and tossed her onto the bed.

Yicheng didn’t resist, just looked at him with a faint, ambiguous smile.

Zhang Wei, caught up in the moment, didn’t care anymore. He took off his clothes and pressed down on her. After some fumbling, he froze in place.

Yicheng blinked. ”Why did you stop?”

Zhang Wei rolled over to lie beside her, annoyed. ”What else? You’ve got that golden light protecting you. If I continue, I’m afraid you’ll splatter blood all over my face.”

Yicheng hit him playfully. ”All you think about when you come over is that. By the way, our boss woke up a few days ago. She’s recovering quite well now, but she definitely can’t manage the gym anymore.”

Seeing Zhang Wei’s expression turn serious again, she continued, ”I talked with her. She said she invested about seven million initially. If I take over the management, she’d accept a transfer for five million, but she hopes the interior design and the store name won’t be changed. After all, that was her hard work.”

Zhang Wei nodded. He had great respect for such a dedicated and conscientious business owner.

”No problem. Ask the boss when she can sign the contract. The money is ready anytime. The decor and store name are part of what attracts customers anyway. We can agree not to change them. As for the staff, keep their salaries as is; no need for additional layoffs.”

After a moment’s thought, he added to Yicheng, ”Also, draft a share agreement. Once we get the gym, I’ll transfer 10% of the shares to you. From then on, I’ll have to call you Manager Sun.”

Yicheng was delighted. Thanks to its excellent service, top-notch environment, and equipment, the gym’s monthly revenue was quite substantial, meaning a decent share of the profits. Plus, the manager’s salary would be much higher than her current one.

Thinking of this, she leaned in and kissed Zhang Wei on the cheek.

Zhang Wei’s eyes gleamed. He chuckled, ”You think a kiss is enough to get rid of me? Not a chance.” Then he whispered a few words in Yicheng’s ear.

Yicheng bit her lip, then finally, shyly, lay face down on the bed.
