The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

62: Chapter 62 Jiang Jianhua’s Gift of GratitudeThe group arrived at the cafeteria. The cafeteria uncle still remembered An Xiaoxi, that cute Little girl, and with a kind expression, he piled her noodle soup high with beef, covering it so completely that not a single noodle was visible.

Zuo Hemei ignored the others wolfing down their food beside her and instead asked about the details of the arrest. ’What if that driver hadn’t come out to use the restroom or had just relieved himself in a corner? Your plan would have been ruined, wouldn’t it?’

Zhang Wei smiled confidently. ’They were bound to use the restroom in the parking lot. It’s unlikely they could go all night without relieving themselves. Besides, they were planning to flee south from Sheng City early the next morning. Highway service areas and public restrooms on the streets are full of surveillance cameras. To avoid raising suspicion, they would definitely prefer to take care of it in a more discreet parking lot. That’s also why I had Liu Haorui pretend to be a security guard and warn them not to do it in a corner. If a guard caught them, it would complicate things. Those kidnappers wouldn’t dare cause a scene, so they had no choice but to obediently use the security office.’

Here, Zhang Wei’s smile turned sly. ’Besides, even if they had iron bladders and didn’t need to go, wasn’t there you, Captain Zuo, and your team? I could have just contacted you to make the arrest.’

’So you were using us as the backup team?’ Zuo Hemei said, annoyed. Suddenly, she remembered something. ’Oh, right, that four million yuan reward for you has been approved. The municipal bureau leadership has decided to hold an awards ceremony the morning after tomorrow. You’ll need to attend.’

Zhang Wei waved his hand dismissively. ’Count me out. Let Liu Haorui go. It’ll be good for boosting his follower count.’

Zuo Hemei didn’t make a big deal of it. Just then, the cafeteria door opened, and a group of people entered, led by a middle-aged man whose bearing exuded an imposing authority even without anger. As he approached the group, the man spoke gently, ’I heard a kind-hearted person saved my Xiao Tian. May I ask which one of you it is?’

Zhang Wei stood up and greeted him. The middle-aged man’s face broke into a grateful smile as he stepped forward and tightly grasped Zhang Wei’s hand. ’Young man, I can’t thank you enough. If something had happened to my Xiao Tian, I don’t know how I could face my family. You are my great benefactor.’

’Honestly, I just did what anyone would do,’ Zhang Wei said, waving it off. Who doesn’t despise human traffickers? In the era Zhang Wei was born, the one-child policy was still in effect. Families often had only one child. If a child was kidnapped, the entire family would be instantly destroyed.

’You’re too modest, young man. Here is my business card. If you ever need any help in the future, please call the number on it,’ the middle-aged man said, handing over a card. Then, he took a check from one of his subordinates. ’This is a token of gratitude from a father. Please, you must accept it.’

Zhang Wei politely declined a few times, but seeing the man’s insistence, he eventually accepted it. At that moment, the little boy also came over and thanked everyone in a clear, childish voice, bringing a perfect end to this kidnapping case.

After the group left the Criminal Police Brigade, Zhang Hong and Wang Sheng had to return to install the greenhouses. The greenhouse project was nearing completion, and they couldn’t spare any more time.

Zhang Wei hailed a taxi for the two of them. After a moment’s thought, he added, ’Once things settle down a bit, you two should sign up for a driving school in Fengxian District. I’ll cover the fees. Once you get your licenses, I’ll get you a van. It’ll make loading and unloading farm tools much easier.’

After seeing them off, Zhang Wei, An Xiaoxi, and Liu Haorui got into the NIO. Liu Haorui couldn’t wait to ask, ’Old Zhang, quick, show us! How much did that chairman guy pay you?’ An Xiaoxi was also curious.

Zhang Wei took out the check. On it were seven zeros followed by a one.

Liu Haorui’s eyes widened. ’Ten million! Yesterday, Old Zhang made over ten million catching a cheater, and tonight he made another ten million. At this rate, are you going to be making ten million a day minimum from now on?’

Zhang Wei did a quick calculation. Buying the villa in his hometown’s provincial capital had cost over eight million. Between the adultery case and this kidnapping, his assets had now reached twenty million, not even counting the four million yuan bounty that was about to come in. Without even realizing it, he had amassed a small fortune.

First, following the usual practice, he transferred one million to An Xiaoxi. Then, he sent twenty thousand each to Zhang Hong and Wang Sheng, as they had put in a lot of effort.

Then, turning to Liu Haorui with a smile, he said, ’Still, I have to thank you, Old Liu. If it weren’t for your unpaid performance, we wouldn’t have been able to trick those three bastards.’

Liu Haorui stared blankly at the payment notification on An Xiaoxi’s phone. ’Wait, what? Old Zhang, when did I ever say I’d perform for free?’

Zhang Wei laughed. ’Huh? I remember last night at dinner, when you skipped out on the bill and took two packs of Huazi cigarettes, didn’t you tell the front desk server that? Isn’t that right, An Xiaoxi?’

An Xiaoxi nodded with a smug look on her face.

’Old Zhang, no! Godfather! You can’t do this to me! I was just joking last night!’ Liu Haorui pounded his chest in frustration, almost throwing himself on the ground in a tantrum.

Zhang Wei was just teasing him. Finally, after Liu Haorui promised to treat them to a big meal next time and cover a full day’s expenses at a bathhouse, Zhang Wei ’forgave’ him and transferred the money.

On the way back, Zhang Wei made a detour to Wukang Road. He bought a bottle of cola, opened it, and showed the bottle cap to the cashier. Under the astonished gaze of the shop assistant, he exchanged it for three thousand yuan, then left with a casual air.

Although three thousand yuan meant little to Zhang Wei now, every little bit helps.

The three returned to Jiangnan Garden and went their separate ways. An Xiaoxi went home to walk the dog, Liu Haorui headed to driving school, and Zhang Wei went to the gym for a workout.

He hadn’t booked a private training session with Sun Yicheng in advance today. Remembering that the gym’s outdoor swimming pool had a nice view, Zhang Wei decided to go for a swim by himself.

After swimming for an hour, he rested his arms on the pool’s edge to catch his breath. He had to admit, the gym’s location was excellent. The infinity pool overlooked the Suzhou River, and on a clear day, you could see the cable-stayed bridge in the distance.

Just then, a drink bottle appeared in front of him. Looking up along the bottle, Zhang Wei’s jaw dropped. Sun Yicheng was standing there, wearing a pink swimsuit and smiling at him. The sunlight shone from behind her, making her look almost angelic.

’Cat got your tongue? Not happy to see me?’ Sun Yicheng blinked and laughed.

She let out a surprised yelp as Zhang Wei pulled her into the water.

The two playfully splashed around in the water for a while. In such a public place, Zhang Wei couldn’t do much to the Little girl. He could only threaten her menacingly, ’You’re dead tonight. Just wait and see how I punish you.’

Sun Yicheng met his gaze with a provocative look. ’Bring it on. Just don’t make excuses later.’

As they were talking, a sudden commotion erupted from inside the gym. Then, the sound of an ambulance siren came from outside.

’An accident?’ Sun Yicheng was surprised. She turned to Zhang Wei and said, ’Let’s go up and take a look.’

Zhang Wei shook his head. ’You go ahead first. We’ll meet up in the lobby later.’

No way was he going up right then. After being tempted by Sun Yicheng like that, getting out of the pool now would be social suicide.
