The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

74: Chapter 74 Please Call Me ConanAfter ending the video call with General Manager Shi, Qin Mulin realized that bringing a black briefcase back would definitely arouse suspicion. It was already late at night, and there was no way to deposit the money in the bank.

He could only go to the front desk of the Hilton Hotel under the name of Guest Number 506 and deposit the briefcase in the storage room.

After the bidding ended, he could casually find an excuse to leave the main group and then come back to retrieve the five million in cash. Qin Mulin couldn’t help but feel pleased with his perfect plan.

Returning to his hotel room and confirming that Xiao Qian was still in a deep sleep, Qin Mulin finally felt completely relieved.

Thinking about the shocked expressions Minister Han and that rich second generation Young Master Zhu would have upon learning about the failed bid tomorrow made him feel incomparably delighted.

The next day

Minister Han knocked on Zhu Pengfei’s door, but after waiting a moment, an unfamiliar young man opened it.

Minister Han asked with some uncertainty, ”Um, excuse me, where is Young Master Zhu?”

”Hello, Minister Han,” Zhang Wei said with a smile, ”You don’t need to worry about where Zhu Pengfei went. Just follow the Chairman’s instructions.”

Saying that, he dialed Zhu Zhendong’s mobile number and gestured for him to pick up.

”Alright, alright, Chairman, I understand.” Minister Han returned the phone to Zhang Wei after the other party hung up. Although he was puzzled by the young man’s identity, the Chairman had instructed him to proceed with the bidding as usual, so he had no reason to disobey.

After everyone had breakfast, they proceeded in a grand manner to the grand auditorium of the Construction Bureau.

At this time, more than a dozen leaders were seated on the rostrum, and the company competing with the Zhu Group had arrived earlier; it was General Manager Shi leading his team personally.

Qin Mulin discreetly nodded to the other party amidst the crowd and then quietly waited for the bidding to begin.

At this moment, a leader from the Construction Bureau walked to the front of the stage: ”I announce that the registration time for this bidding has closed. Currently, there are two companies participating: the Zhu Group and Phoenix Shares. Now, please have both parties submit their bidding plans and bid amounts. Thank you.”

After Minister Han and General Manager Shi submitted their documents separately, the leader said, ”Very well. Now, please have both companies leave the venue. Our Construction Department will hold a meeting to discuss the submissions. We will invite both parties back in later to announce the results.”

Everyone walked out of the grand auditorium and was led into a conference room.

General Manager Shi then approached Minister Han, smiling smugly, ”We have to thank the Zhu Group for showing us such great consideration in this bidding.”

Minister Han looked at the other party with a confused expression. Was there something wrong with General Manager Shi’s brain? The bidding result hadn’t even been announced yet, and he was already talking nonsense here?

Seeing his expression, General Manager Shi didn’t bother to explain. He pointed to Qin Mulin in the crowd and said, ”Xiao Qin! Aren’t you coming over here? Our company admires talented people like you. Starting today, you are no longer an employee of the Zhu Group but one of us at Phoenix Shares.”

At this moment, the people from the Zhu Group felt as if they had fallen into an ice cellar, all looking at Qin Mulin with shocked eyes.

Minister Han roared even louder, ”Old Qin, is what he said true? I didn’t expect you to actually sell out the company! That’s a crime!”

General Manager Shi next to him burst into laughter, ”Minister Han, don’t just throw baseless accusations around without evidence. Our company simply admires an employee like Qin Mulin. As for whether he is willing to resign and join us, it has nothing to do with this bidding.”

For a traitor like Qin Mulin, one betrayal meant countless betrayals. Only by ruining his reputation could he be made to serve the Phoenix Group wholeheartedly. Thinking of this, General Manager Shi couldn’t help but feel proud of his methods of managing subordinates.

Qin Mulin hadn’t expected General Manager Shi to pull a stunt like this at this moment. Facing everyone’s anger, he knew clearly that starting today, his reputation within the circle was ruined, and he would only be able to rely on the mercy of the Phoenix Group in the future.

He sighed inwardly; if he was blind, he might as well walk down this path until the end. He silently walked to General Manager Shi’s side and sneered at Minister Han:

”A piece of trash like you can actually climb above me and throw your weight around. Based on qualifications or strength, in what way are you better than me? The Zhu Group couldn’t see my talent, so why should I stay here?”

Minister Han lost his composure upon hearing this. Qin Mulin must have leaked the information.

If the other party had learned their bidding plan and quote in advance, then failure was inevitable.

The moment he thought about losing this major project, causing the Infrastructure Department to suffer a setback and possibly even be dissolved by the group, despair filled Minister Han’s heart.

Everyone else exchanged bewildered glances, completely helpless.

He quickly walked to the conference room and dialed Chairman Zhu Zhendong’s number.

Afterward, Minister Han reported every detail of the sudden turn of events.

”Don’t panic. Wait for the result. Things might still have a turning point?” To Minister Han’s surprise, Zhu Zhendong on the other end of the line sounded very calm, as if the matter was of little consequence.

Minister Han knew that success in the bidding was now impossible; he was merely waiting for the announcement of failure. He could only sigh inwardly at the Chairman’s optimism.

Thus, the two parties sat on opposite sides of the reception room—one side shrouded in gloom, the other elated.

It was like heaven and hell appearing simultaneously in this small room.

After an unknown amount of time, the door to the reception room was finally pushed open.

An officer from the Construction Bureau came in and said, ”The bidding result is out. Please have both parties come forward to hear the result.”

Minister Han held no hope but still led everyone into the grand auditorium with a solemn expression.

The leaders on the rostrum saw that everyone was present and stood up to speak: ”After careful discussion, we have thoroughly examined the construction plans and cost quotes from both the Zhu Group and Phoenix Shares. We will now announce the result.”

Saying that, he looked up at the crowd.

”Congratulations to the Zhu Group for successfully winning the bid.”

”Haha! We won... Huh?” General Manager Shi was about to step onto the stage but suddenly froze in place.

At this moment, Minister Han’s mouth was wide open, wide enough to fit a fist. Did he just say they won the bid? He suspected he was hallucinating.

”Impossible! Did you say the wrong name?” Qin Mulin was now covered in a cold sweat, completely lacking his previous composure. He stared fixedly at the leader on the stage and asked, unwilling to give up.

”Look how anxious this person is, just like a stray dog,” a mocking voice came from behind him at that moment.

Everyone turned around and saw Zhang Wei and Zhu Pengfei arriving.

Zhu Pengfei was looking triumphant and pointed at Qin Mulin, saying, ”Traitor, I’ll let you die knowing clearly, back then... Ouch!”

Zhang Wei was seen kicking Zhu Pengfei aside. What a joke! He had meticulously planned this for so long, and just as he was about to reveal the truth like Conan, this idiot was going to steal his thunder? Absolutely not!

At this time, Qin Mulin’s eyes widened: ”How is it you! Aren’t you that Xiao Zhang from yesterday?”

Zhang Wei burst out laughing, ”My surname is Zhang, that’s right, but I’m certainly not an employee of the Phoenix Group. In fact, we knew about your betrayal long before you arrived in City Name Sheng Hai. So, we decided to play along and let you feed the fake quote and bidding plan to General Manager Shi of the Phoenix Group.”

Qin Mulin cried out, ”Impossible! The bidding plan took over a month to complete. It’s impossible to create a new plan in such a short time! The plan I gave General Manager Shi must have been real!”

Zhang Wei looked at him mockingly, ”Are you sure you gave it to General Manager Shi himself?”
