The World's Richest Man: Start with the Daily Intelligence System

54: Chapter 54 Buying a House Back in My Hometown”If you were a musical instrument merchant with ten Pipa, and you sold two today, how many would you have left?” Zhang Wei asked An Xiaoxi seriously.

An Xiaoxi was a bit slow to react and instinctively replied, ”Eight.”

”Aiyee~” Zhang Wei burst out laughing and quickly retreated into his room, locking the door. Only then did An Xiaoxi realize Zhang Wei had tricked her. She rushed to his door and yelled, ”Get out here, you’re dead! No, wait, you aren’t changing the subject. You didn’t come back all night yesterday. Were you out fooling around?”

Zhang Wei laughed loudly from inside the room, ”You little brat, mind your own father’s business.” So what if she was a genius hacker girl? She still lost to his riddle.

An Xiaoxi kicked the door a few times before reluctantly returning to the living room to play games.

Zhang Wei lay on the bed, planning to take a nap. They were going back to his hometown today, and the train ticket was for three in the afternoon, so he still had plenty of time.

Suddenly realizing he hadn’t checked the daily intelligence report, he felt a bit annoyed. It seemed that a femme fatale really could affect one’s career. Last night, while riding horses vigorously, he completely forgot about the system.

Captain Jiang Yuanan of the Criminal Police Brigade was discharged from the hospital yesterday and returned home to recuperate. His injuries are expected to take three weeks to heal completely. After hearing the report from Zuo Hemei, he immediately contacted the City Name Public Security Bureau Chief by phone at home and provided a detailed report on the Host’s actions, strongly advocating for the Host to be rewarded. City Name leaders also attached great importance to the matter and decided to issue a 3 million reward, an additional ’Good Citizen’ certificate, and a cash prize of 1 million to the Host.

Seeing this, Zhang Wei gave Captain Jiang a huge thumbs-up. This was what they meant by close police-civilian relations. A great captain like him deserved rapid promotions and a smooth career path. If there was any information about a wanted criminal in the future, he must provide it to Captain Jiang.

Inside the trash can behind the back door of the New Trend Bar, there is an unopened bottle of Louis XIII Cognac, 40% alcohol concentration. The time it was discovered by a passerby is unknown.

Zhang Wei didn’t know much about foreign liquor; when entertaining clients before, he mainly drank Baijiu. Driven by curiosity, he checked online and found that this bottle of liquor sold for over twenty thousand yuan, and it was a new vintage. Aged ones were even more outrageous. Which nouveau riche did this? Did they just throw it in the trash after getting drunk? What a waste!

The gatekeeper at the Instrument Branch Factory in Fengxian District, Old Man Li, used a leg of lamb he had secretly kept, along with the broth, to treat Widow Wang from the nearby village yesterday evening, staying at her home for an hour before leaving.

(-_-) (-_-) (-_-)

Zhang Wei was stunned. Old man, please be a decent human being! He remembered An Xiaoxi saying at dinner yesterday that a leg of lamb was missing, thinking it had been stolen by the guard dog. He didn’t expect the old man to be worse than a dog. This was clearly theft by someone entrusted with guarding something. But thinking it wasn’t a major issue, Zhang Wei decided not to pursue it for the sake of the old man’s happy life.

After a moment of thought, he realized he probably wouldn’t have time to retrieve the Louis XIII himself, so he called Liu Haorui. He arranged for Liu Haorui to pick it up and hand it over to An Xiaoxi to find a buyer.

He opened his door and peered out cautiously. An Xiaoxi was currently sitting in the living room playing games. Zhang Wei rushed over with a fawning smile and sat down next to her.

An Xiaoxi moved slightly to the side with a look of disdain.

Zhang Wei scratched his head, ”Well, later Liu Haorui will bring up a bottle of foreign liquor. I’m going back to my hometown for a few days, so you watch the price and sell it if it seems right, okay?”

An Xiaoxi focused on her game and pretended not to hear.

”Alright, alright, I was wrong, okay? Next time if I’m out and not coming back, I’ll definitely report to Lord An in advance.” Zhang Wei clasped his hands together in a gesture of pleading.

He knew clearly that An Xiaoxi had a cold exterior but a warm heart. After the wanted criminal incident just occurred, she was worried he might encounter danger, which was why she was angry.

”I can’t be bothered to care about you,” An Xiaoxi huffed.

Seeing that the young girl wasn’t as angry anymore, Zhang Wei shamelessly grabbed a controller and joined her to play video games. When the time was almost up, he slung a bag over his shoulder and set off for the high-speed rail station.

”Come back early if you have nothing to do,” An Xiaoxi said softly just before he left.

Although they shared no blood ties, the three of them had unknowingly become a family.

Zhang Wei waved and left the apartment.

After over four hours on the high-speed train, followed by a forty-minute taxi ride after transferring, it was already past eight in the evening when he arrived home.

All this transferring was too troublesome. Zhang Wei considered just buying an apartment in the provincial capital. That way, it would only take a few minutes to get home after arriving by high-speed rail. The conditions and facilities in the provincial capital were also much better than in the small town.

”Xiao Wei, you’re back! Come in quickly, you must be exhausted from the trip!” His mother couldn’t hide the smile on her face when she saw Zhang Wei. No matter how old her son was, he was always his mother’s treasure.

His father, Zhang Weiguo, was also sitting in the living room, looking at him with concern: ”Your mother knew you were coming back and prepared a table full of dishes for you, all your favorites. Hurry up and wash your hands.”

It was already eight in the evening. Zhang Wei looked at the full table of dishes, untouched. He knew his parents hadn’t eaten dinner waiting for him to return. Tears instantly welled up in his eyes. Zhang Wei quickly ran to the bathroom so his parents wouldn’t see his embarrassment.

The three sat down, and he poured a glass of cola. Zhang Wei was indeed hungry, so he picked up his rice bowl and began eating ravenously.

”This kid, he eats much more heartily than before,” Mom said with a smile. ”For a while, he tried to act like a literary youth, eating with affected airs. It’s much nicer to see him like this now.”

Zhang Weiguo recalled the scene and chuckled heartily too.

In the small living room, although it wasn’t as large as the room he had in Jiangnan Garden, it was filled with warmth and happiness.

Zhang Wei felt a bit awkward. He was a campus heartthrob in high school and had many secret admirers. Back then, he wasn’t pretending to be literary; he just had an idol image to maintain. In simple terms, he avoided eating properly to look cool. Thinking about it now, it was definitely a dark history.

”Oh right, Mom and Dad,” Zhang Wei said as he was almost done eating, bringing up the serious matter: ”I plan to hire a caregiver auntie for Dad, one who can also clean and cook. That way, Mom, you can also enjoy some comfort. Also, the house we’ve lived in for so many years should be replaced. How about we go look at houses tomorrow?”

His mother immediately objected: ”Son, it’s good that you are filial, and we are both very happy. But you know our family’s situation. After paying off the external debt, didn’t you still owe your boss money? Our savings are long gone. The fruit store business is good now, but labor is expensive. After deducting costs each month, we only make five or six thousand. Buying a house might be difficult even for the down payment.”

His father also advised him from the side, ”Yes, Xiao Wei. There’s no rush to buy a house. Save up more money, it will be useful for your marriage later. We are living quite well now.”

Zhang Wei patted his chest, ”If it’s about money, you two don’t need to worry. The money owed to the boss has already been paid off. There’s still quite a bit left in the card.”

Zhang Weiguo was a bit unconvinced, ”How much can you have left? Keep it for yourself. Don’t live too miserably when you’re with colleagues in Sheng Hai.”

”Not much, not much, just over eight million left,” Zhang Wei said, pretending to be calm.
