Chapter 240: The Shadow Calamity XVII

Just what was going on around here?

Other than Grimm and Millie, the rest of the low-level Demon Hunters were confused by the sudden shift in the void fortress.

Unlike the Sorcerer World, the void fortress, which was emanating the principal will of the Sorcerer World consumed hundreds or even thousands of times more resources if it wished to move around in the Foreign World. Hence, void fortresses rarely moved at long distances during a demon hunting expedition.

However, there were fewer Amonros attacking the void fortress now.

“Ugh…”

A fallen Amonro suddenly dropped from the sky and landed on top of the square of the moving void fortress, right next to Grimm.

After clearing a path through the sick and hungry Soul Slaves, Grimm, Millie, and some of the other Demon-hunting Sorcerers who were recovering their mana looked toward the fallen Amonro.

This…

Beneath the Mask of Truth, Grimm’s both eyes were fixated on the incapacitated Amonro’s body. There were actually signs of life on the faintly-glowing object that was encircling the body.

These faint green strings of light looked like silk ribbons, entangling the fallen Amonro’s body. They gently hovered in the air. At the same time, they grew out from the fallen Amonro’s nose and mouth at each breath. They were spreading. The fallen Amonro became more and more weakened.

‘Are these the Amonros’ ‘Tears of Sorrow’ that the void fortress’s technical department had been researching these past few years, in accordance with the dark sorcerers and the arcane truth of life or death?’

Grimm took a guess. He took out a test tube and collected the rare, modified elemental lifeform.

The other Demon-hunting Sorcerers too followed suit. Among them was a cruel Dark Sorcerer who instigated the glowing creature with sorcery to accelerate the fallen Amonro’s death.

High above the sky, there were no other creatures that came close within a hundred meters of the three Stigmata Sorcerers and the Lava Giant. It appeared that they returned inside the void fortress because the ‘Tears of Sorrow’ were released.

Could it be that the three great Stigmata Sorcerers and the Lava Giant, through the use of the Amonros’ Tears of Sorrow had reached some kind of contractual agreement?

Perhaps, there were still some Lava Giants left in the world?

The Lava Giant didn’t seem to be enslaved by the Hearkening Whisperers. Instead, there were some kind of subtle connections between them that were built on equal grounds.

Grimm was only guessing in his mind. He did not express them. As the void fortress pushed through the cloud of dark smoke, the small patch of space at the square gradually became quiet.

“Grimm,” Millie suddenly called out to Grimm who was standing beside her.

“Hmm?”

Grimm turned his head to look at Millie. She sounded like she was about to say something serious.

Gently, Millie reached out her index finger. Frost began to gather and formed a tiny ice bird. Clink! The glimmering snowflakes exploded to reveal an exquisite scroll. She carefully passed the scroll to Grimm.

“I know that you could take away other people’s talents using your Trio of Grand Hidden Sorceries and that you have acquired my sister’s Body of Flame. When I think about it, during the qualification battles at the Holy Tower, you got a hold of my blood as well. You should be able to form the Essence of Ice body at will now?

After pausing for a moment, Millie, emotional and grateful, said,” Previously, I had lost all hope. I’d never thought that you would appear and save me. There is no way to express my gratitude. This scroll recorded two hundred years’ worth of my analysis and discernment on the Essence of Ice Crystallization sorcery. Take this as my way of saying thanks.”

Essence of Ice Crystallization?

Grimm remembered the diamond-shaped ice crystal that was son Millie’s forehead. Now, because Millie had put a seal on herself previously, her forehead was empty. There was nothing there.

However, Grimm could clearly sense from the glimmering crystal light that Millie had probably compressed her ice energies and turned it into a super-powerful energy reserve node. That was how she could cast large-scaled strategic spells that would exhaust a lot of mana.

Grimm’s expression became stern. After receiving the scroll, he nodded his head as a sign of agreement toward the unspoken rule of knowledge exchange between the two dark sorcerers.

He passed the scroll to Myna. The myna cackled and turned into a figure of a child’s scribbles before vanishing in the dimension gap.

Millie looked at Grimm enviously. The Myna was originally obtained by her father by chance. It was intended for her. She hoped that she could once again interact with the wonderful little spirit by using her Ice Age Sealing sorcery as her base.

But she never expected the unforeseen event during the qualification battles of the holy tower. The Myna had now became Grimm’s soul partner.

She let out a sigh in her heart. Millie no longer cared for the outside world and concentrated on regaining her magical powers. There was a short period of calmness on the void fortress.

…

A month later.

“Hold! No retreating, victory is within reach!” An officer of the Bright Sorcerers shouted in the skies above the void fortress. He was rallying the magical army of more than ten Demon-hunting Sorcerers on a magical hexagram array, which served a vital role in a corner of the void fortress’s defense.

However, deep within his eyes, there was a sense of utter bitterness.

A Level 2 sorcerer like him was almost at his limits, not to mention the surrounding Level 1 Demon-hunting Sorcerers.

If he lost this side, the innumerable Amonros would be able to break through quickly into the void fortress square. It would be chaotic.

To depend on those Dark Sorcerers?

Those people only fight for themselves. In front of an organized fighting force such as the Bright Sorcerers, they were nothing but support. To put it bluntly, they were merely stronger versions of their Soul Slaves.

Ooo…

At this moment, a loud horn was sounded across the void fortress square. Suddenly, a large army of mechanical marionettes appeared at the entryway that led from the square to the underground basement. They rushed into the front of the void fortress, taking over the defensive circles of the Bright Sorcerers. The crowd of exhausted Bright Sorcerers regrouped back at the void fortress square.

Grimm, who set up a defensive position at a corner of the square turned his head and watched at the tens of thousands of mechanical marionettes lining up in a formation to march into the front of the fortress. He couldn’t help but feel more relaxed. He mumbled, “Finally, the Battle Command released these strategic assets. So, has the fortress finally reached its destination?”

The mechanical marionettes were the final measures of survival for the void fortress. They were also important strategic resources that were hoarded by the sorcerer without any limit.

The Holy Tower had a huge price and insane amount of rules on any damaged or destroyed mechanical marionettes to eliminate the Demon-hunting Sorcerers’ dependencies on the strategic resources. Hence, the Stigmata Sorcerers were reluctant to use them.

Now that the Stigmata Sorcerers were using the mechanical marionettes, it would mean that in a short time, the safe haven that the void fortress had been spreading around is finally within reach.

What kind of place would it be?

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Mechanical marionettes, big and small, each with different characteristics were lined up neatly. They were shooting out energy beams, fearlessly defending the front of the void fortress against the erratic Amonros that slammed in with a deathwish. Some of them broke into hand-to-hand combat with the Amonros that slammed into the fortress. It was a fierce battle.

During the last moments of the qualification war of the Holy Tower, Grimm knew that even the lowest worker-ant level mechanical marionette had the capabilities of a lowest rank-one creature. Above them, the soldier-ants and ant-general mechanical marionettes were at least rank two or three.

Now, as Grimm looked on the appearance of hundreds of thousands of mechanical marionettes, he was in awe.

Although it appeared as if the demon hunters were at their limits, the void fortress was far beyond its damage threshold.

Perhaps it was some kind of training for the Demon-hunting Sorcerers.

After three hourglasses had passed, the endless assaults of the Amonros grew even more fierce. The closer it was to the front of the void fortress, the fiercer the battle became. Finally, the Demon-hunting Sorcerers saw the endless winds of the enigmatic hurricanes blowing at a distance. The hurricane appeared to be blowing violently, as if it would tear apart everything in its way.

‘Hmm?

‘Is this… a sealed land? ‘
