A Sorcerer’s Journey

Chapter 209: The Camphroagate Worms

Although they were never mentioned, Grimm had already known that the long-strained creatures that had no innards had a lot to do with the Amonros’ Camphroagate methods of nest-building while passing through the underground tunnels.

Within the flesh walls of the underground tunnel, the creatures moved like fish in the water!

As to its methods of escape, Grimm found out earlier that the green liquid ejected by the mysterious creatures is a strange material that could negate the flesh walls. During his time in the flesh tunnel, Grimm experimented with half a magic shard to prove his hypothesis.

But he did not expect to find them inside the Great Bloodfalls Lavawyvern. Did it have something to do with how the Amonros were able to control the Lavawyvern?

Splash!

After the ball of flesh was torn apart by the group of dark sorcerers who were frantically trying to grab them, the mysterious creatures which had been slithering freely in the flesh became like snakes in the hands of their charmers—a plaything of the Dark Sorcerers.

Fortunately there were more than ten of those long, strain-like creatures in the ball of flesh—enough for the Dark Sorcerers. There wasn’t too much of a fight. Grimm was agile and managed to take two of the creatures for himself.

The creatures were cold and slippery to the touch. They felt like elongated worms. They were struggling under Grimm’s manipulation of the gravitational forces helplessly.

Fwoosh! Fwoosh!

Two flames of soul fires seeped into the weak creatures in bondage, suppressing them at their life level. The creatures that had strange powers were very weak and only struggled for a moment before being completely suppressed by Grimm.

The other sorcerers were able to subdue the weak creature with a similar method. There was astonishing joy in their expressions as they manipulated their soul slaves to eject the green liquid over their sorcerer barriers.

The green liquid wholly covered the sorcerer barriers in an instant.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh…

Tens of Dark Sorcerers, under the guise of their green liquid covered barriers, looked at the lava lake within the sealed space that was gradually rising in an aggravating manner. Without much thought, they charged toward the black wall of flesh that was blocking the entryway.

Droop!

The black layer of flesh which was still impenetrable to the sorcerers just now looked like a layer of mirror lake. It made a continuous drooping sound as the sorcerers charged through to escape the barren lava lake.

Within the flesh walls, Grimm was absolutely stunned!

Grimm had always thought that the terrifying walls of flesh were the Amonros’ unique way of constructing their nests. But then he saw these sorcerers pouring the green liquids over themselves and turned what was originally elastic and solid materials into flowing liquid that they could swim around effortlessly.

What was more terrifying was that…

If you were looking at the walls of flesh from within the tunnel, they were blood red and absolutely horrifying. But now, looking from within the wall itself, they were actually translucent—like a layer of clear glass.

Did this mean that when Grimm was exploring the underground tunnels with the rest of the sorcerers, other than the time when they were laying down the minor scouting magical arrays, they were under the watchful eyes of these Amonros all these while?

Even Grimm shuddered at the thought of it. It was scary.

If he hadn’t gone into the underground passage that led to the Camphroagate Tree, the sorcerer’s world, as the main battleground would have an absolute advantage in their war against the Shadow World. Maybe only very few sorcerers with strong survival knowledge had survived the underground passage; others would be entrapped forever.

Ahead of them, hundreds and perhaps thousands of the long, strain-like creatures that were originally blocking the entryway scattered like a school of frightened fish at the sudden intrusion of the sorcerers, which were seen as anomalies within the wall of flesh.

But none of the sorcerers went to chase. Instead, they were rabidly heading toward the surface world, trying their best to outrun the other Demon Hunters.

All the Demon Hunters knew that one of them would surely be awarded a badge of honor.

The information regarding the Camphroagate Tree in the crystal ball?

There was a huge gap in their understanding. On one side, they could revise the information regarding the Camphroagate Tree. At the same time, if the Void Fortress had succeeded in gaining the information regarding the long, strain-like creature, then all of the Demon Hunters who were investigating the underground space of the Camphroagate Tree could move around freely like the Amonros and reduce their casualties immensely.

By such deduction, as long as the Void Fortress had yet to receive information regarding the Camphroagate Tree, the first to hand in this piece of information to the Void Fortress would surely receive a badge of honor!

But what about the demonic blood moss resistance potion?

Although Grimm had some understanding in the research of pharmacology, only a small portion of his mere two hundred years of age was spent in this area. He couldn’t even call himself a master in the study of pharmacology.

God knows if a few days later, there would be a mountain of dead Great Bloodfalls Lavawyvern specimens by the strong Demon Hunters.

And the geniuses who had a clear grasp of pharmacology were normally among the Bright Sorcerers. It was possible that they could make better progress in their research compared to Grimm even though they would receive the physical samples later than him.

At this moment, the outstandingly intelligent Demon Hunters could not reveal their ecstatic expressions. They were rushing ahead with all their might, as if it were a race.

The Level 3 badge of honor shall belong to the first place of this Dark Sorcerers’ ‘race’!

Camphroagate Worm!

After Grimm named the strange creatures in his mind, he looked ahead at the few Dark Sorcerers who were traveling within the flesh wall at extreme speed and smiled coldly. Victory was near.

At a burst of magical energy, Grimm disappeared from the wall flesh into thin air. This made the sorcerers behind, who were plotting to overtake the other sorcerers, call out in disbelief.

A blurry figure appeared in front of their eyes. Grimm re-appeared at the entrance of the passage that led to the Camphroagate Tree.

“Caw! Caw! Master Grimm, just now a sorcerer who escaped from the altar said a lot of people died in the lava lake, were you there?” The parrot stood at Grimm’s shoulder and was excitingly inquisitive.

The ancient bird had seen a lot of deaths and didn’t feel much about deaths anymore.

Grimm knew the sorcerer that was mentioned by the Myna. He was the first to escape the Amonros’ trap at the lava lake. His mistake cost him his chance to earn a badge of honor.

Swoosh!

Grimm flew up and dashed vertically from the Camphroagate Tree’s underground palace and stood on the top of the tree, which looked like a long baguette that was standing at a hundred meters tall. He looked around.

Even though the place was said to be the outer region of the battlefield, Grimm could still faintly hear the agonizing cries and smell the stench of blood in the air, as if the whole world was in mourning.

By the sorcerer’s law of origins, Grimm tried to sense the position of the void fortress by locating the source of the ripples.

“I was there too, but not many died there. Most of them escaped.”

After replying the Myna, he no longer cared for the Myna’s enthusiastic inquisitions. After confirming his direction, he manipulated the dimensional space and catapulted himself a hundred meters away. At the crackle of lightning, he flew about ten meters away before launching himself a hundred meters away again with his manipulation of dimensional spaces.

Grimm used his fastest speed to reach the void fortress of the sorcerers’ world.

The dark sorcerers who received the Camphroagate worms would take a few hourglasses just to leave the tree palace.

Grimm would have been far away by then, perhaps he would have already handed in his reports in the Void Fortress.

Half an hourglass later.

Pockets of flying Amonros appeared across the sky. These scattered Amonros looked like frightened birds; when they saw Grimm from afar, they turned ninety degrees and headed toward other directions.

These Amonros were not weak at all. It even looked like there were two enigmatic Amonro travelling with them, but they did not choose to do battle with the lone sorcerer that fell out from his group.

This was the real depths of the Shadow World. Eternal dark clouds covered the sky all year round. The world was in a shade of gray.

A humid environment was created from the mix of water vapors and fire elements. Flesh vegetations were growing on top of the exposed rocks on the ground in strange shapes. Their size was smaller than usual, only at tens of meters. Compared to the gigantic trees that could grow from tens to hundreds of meters in the sorcerers’ world, they were far too different, never mind the other worlds with huge beings.

“So they have started to disperse?” Grimm mumbled by himself.

Since the Amonros were fleeing the battlefield, Grimm, who at first planned to take a detour went straight ahead to hand in his mission report as fast as possible.

Two hourglasses later.

Grimm, who was supposed to be numbed from seeing the scores of flying Amonros suddenly came to a halt in the sky.

Far across, tens of thousands of Amonros flocked together to form a dark cloud and were fast approaching. They covered the sky and shaded any lights that remained. They were so tightly packed, as if they could crush everything that stood in their way.

The legion of shadow composed of so many flying Amonros naturally put Grimm in a shock.

One should know that they were already in the deepest regions of the shadow realm. Following their previous deduction, many of the Amonros here were created under more constraints of the laws in the shadow world and were far stronger than the ones which appeared when the Void Fortress first landed in the Shadow World.

With such a number of Amonros, even a rank three dark sorcerer could do nothing but flee, not to mention Grimm, who was merely a rank one sorcerer.

Only death awaits if he were sucked into the vortex!

Grimm, who was filled with the thought of death quickly glanced around and surveyed his environment, trying his best to be rational and decide the best path for an escape.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Boom! Boom! Boom!

Suddenly, five rays of dark red incinerating beams exploded across the group of Amonros that were covering the sky. In a thunderous rumble, blood mist appeared in the sky as huge parts of the Amonros collapsed. The Amonros were erratic—they flew faster toward Grimm. The feeling of being crushed became even more intense.

Grimm was stunned and halted his escape.
