Chapter 93: Chapter 92: Demon Hunting Order

Demon Hunting Order, in name, whoever receives it serves the Demon Hunting Hall, and their families are thus protected by the Demon Hunting Hall.

Yet in reality, many Martial Artists, to avoid their enemies and unwilling to leave their families undefended, would exchange for this Demon Hunting Order.

Xiao Yi did not respond, but asked, ”Is this Demon Hunting Order really useful?”

”Of course,” the Chief Steward replied. ”The protected individual or family, if any force dares to attack, it is equivalent to provoking the Demon Hunting Hall.”

”What if it’s a major force like Shadow Tower?” Xiao Yi pressed further. ”With their power, ordinary families can be wiped out with a wave of their hand, right?”

The Chief Steward smiled, remembering Yi Xiao and Zhong Wuyou’s battle, and said, ”Oh, you’re worried about Shadow Tower retaliating against your family.”

”Don’t worry, they wouldn’t dare do that. If a protected family is wiped out, the nine Grand Deacons of Northern Mountain County, the Ten Halls Enforcement Team, and hundreds of thousands of Demon Hunters will flatten that force within a day, Shadow Tower included.”

Xiao Yi’s eyes brightened.

But then, the Chief Steward added, ”However, there are two drawbacks to the Demon Hunting Order.”

”Firstly, its effect only lasts for one year.”

”Secondly, if the Demon Hunter who exchanged for it dies, its effect will automatically expire.”

”That means, if you exchange for the order and you are killed, the Demon Hunting Order will automatically become invalid.”

”Let me remind you,” the Chief Steward continued, ”the Demon Hunting Hall only protects your family, not you personally.”

”So, although the Demon Hunting Order seems powerful, it is actually quite superfluous.”

”After all, if one truly has the ability to protect their family, there’s no need to exchange for this order.”

”If one lacks the ability, even if they exchange for it, and an enemy kills them, the Demon Hunting Order will automatically expire, and the enemy can still target your family.”

Xiao Yi nodded, understanding the implications.

The Demon Hunting Order, although powerful, also had significant drawbacks.

No force would dare to violate the rules of the Demon Hunting Hall, but they could come to the Demon Hunting Hall to find out who exchanged for the Demon Hunting Order and then kill that person, making the Demon Hunting Order ineffective.

Even if that person hid,

That force could also wait a full year, waiting for that person to return to their family.

After one year, the exchanger needed to return to the Demon Hunting Hall to pay another 2000 Task Points, exchange for a new Demon Hunting Order, and then personally deliver the new Demon Hunting Order to their family.

It was because of these two drawbacks that something so impactful as the Demon Hunting Order could be exchanged for just 2000 Task Points.

”Hey,” at that moment, the Chief Steward glanced at Xiao Yi and said, ”Do you still have any Task Points? Why are you even asking?”

”I...” Xiao Yi was stunned and he found himself really wanting to beat up this scoundrel.

”Can I buy it directly with Silver Tael?” Xiao Yi asked pleadingly.

”No,” the Chief Steward firmly shook his head, ”the Demon Hunting Hall has its rules; only Task Points can be used to exchange for items within the Hall.”

”Hmph, being a Demon Hunter is a noble profession, Task Points represent the reward behind your blood and honor; they cannot be measured with money.”

The Chief Steward suddenly became righteous, which made Xiao Yi pause in bewilderment.

Then suddenly, the Chief Steward said, ”Do you really have someone or a family you must protect?”

Xiao Yi nodded earnestly.

”Alright then, I’ll teach you a way,” the Chief Steward said.

”What way?” Xiao Yi pressed.

The Chief Steward smiled and said, ”Money won’t exchange anything within the hall, only Task Points can. You can find a Demon Hunter with enough Task Points to exchange for you, as long as they are willing.”

”Right,” Xiao Yi clapped his hands together.

In fact, many Demon Hunters would not exchange anything within the Demon Hunting Hall.

Because they could buy the things they need from external trading companies unless it was something extremely rare.

But for extremely rare items, ordinary Demon Hunters had no use for them.

If a family or individual urgently needs certain rare items, and they’re not available at external trading companies, they would find a Demon Hunter to help exchange at several times the price.

For example, Source Cultivating Red Fruit is generally hard to find in external trading companies. But in reality, its price is at most 1000 Silver Tael, while it costs only 100 Task Points.

Silver Tael is easy to earn; 100 Task Points are difficult to accumulate.

If an Alchemist urgently needs it, they would find a Demon Hunter to help exchange, but the price would at least be three thousand Silver Tael.

For an Alchemist, three thousand Silver Tael is trivial.

For a Demon Hunter, 100 Task Points can’t exchange much, but three thousand Silver Tael could be enough to buy better weapons or some life-saving Elixirs.

It was a mutually beneficial deal, and many Demon Hunters were willing to do it.

At that moment, Xiao Yi frowned, 2000 Task Points; an ordinary Third-level Demon Hunter certainly didn’t have that, but he didn’t know where to find a Fourth-level Demon Hunter.

Beside him, the Chief Steward smiled and said, ”Are you wondering where to find a Demon Hunter with so many Task Points to help you?”

”Indeed,” Xiao Yi nodded.

”Simple,” chuckled the Chief Steward, ”Isn’t there one right in front of you?”

”You?” Xiao Yi was taken aback, puzzled, ”Didn’t you say...”

”Ahem,” the Chief Steward feigned a benevolent look, ”Yi Xiao, although I really dislike those paltry silver coins, seeing how worried you are about your family, I cannot bear it. So, I’ll make an exception this time and help you out.”

”Oh?” Xiao Yi certainly did not believe that this cunning old man had good intentions.

Sure enough.

The Chief Steward smiled, ”Yi Xiao, 2,000 Task Points is too much, it truly pains my heart. The price, naturally, is also high. So, how about this? For 100,000 Silver Tael, I’ll make the exchange for you.”

”100,000 Silver Tael?” Xiao Yi jumped in shock, then immediately frowned in frustration, thinking the old man was indeed a scoundrel.

He had just scammed him out of 1,500 Task Points, and now he was asking for a huge sum.

”Fine, I’ll exchange,” grumbled Xiao Yi through clenched teeth, considering it a sign of respect for the elderly.

”Yi Xiao, don’t look so troubled, if you don’t want to exchange, then forget it, I’m not forcing you,” the Chief Steward said, grinning smugly.

”No, no, no,” Xiao Yi forcefully suppressed his anger, ”Chief Steward, with your great kindness and righteousness, how could I possibly feel troubled?”

”Ah, that’s more like it,” the Chief Steward patted Xiao Yi on the shoulder.

At this moment, a woman returned, handing back the Token to Xiao Yi with a smile, ”Mr. Yi Xiao, here is your Token, all procedures have been handled. From today onward, you are a Deacon of the Demon Hunting Hall.”

Xiao Yi gritted his teeth and accepted the Token, then took out 100,000 Silver Tael and handed it to the Chief Steward.

With a grand wave of his hand and a beaming smile, the Chief Steward accepted the silver note, ”My lad, wait a moment, I’ll go get the Demon Hunting Order for you now.”

As he left, he swaggered off, muttering to himself, ”Tsk, tsk, earned 500 Task Points and 100,000 Silver Tael today, what a haul. This world really is full of fools.”

Xiao Yi was trembling with rage; if he were not weaker in strength, he would surely have beaten this scoundrel senseless.

The woman nearby chuckled softly, ”Mr. Yi Xiao, please don’t mind it, the Chief Steward often teases others. Despite his age, he’s never serious.”

After a while, the Chief Steward returned and handed two golden tokens to Xiao Yi.

”Demon Hunting Orders, a mother and subtoken. Keep the mother token with you, and give the subtoken to an important member of your family to wear.”

”If the bearer of the subtoken is attacked, it will automatically reveal itself, warning the enemy and sensing the mother token.”

”Even if you are thousands of miles away, you can still perceive the condition of the subtoken through the mother token.”

”If the bearer of the subtoken dies, it will automatically break, and the nearest Demon Hunting Hall will immediately dispatch a Law Enforcement Team for rescue.”

”Have you understood all this?”

asked the Chief Steward.

Xiao Yi nodded.

”Also, remember this clearly. If someone targets your family and the subtoken reveals itself, others can follow the aura of the subtoken to the Demon Hunting Hall to check whose subtoken it is.”

”Then, you just wait for your enemies to hunt you down from all over the world. Once you die, the Demon Hunting Order will automatically become invalid.”

”Thank you for the reminder, Chief Steward,” Xiao Yi bowed, ”Yi bids farewell.”

The Chief Steward smiled, ”Take care, I won’t see you out.”

As Xiao Yi turned to leave, he heard one last remark from behind, ”Lad, next time you need to exchange something, come find this old man, I will definitely help you.”

Xiao Yi stumbled, nearly losing his balance, then quickened his pace to leave.

He feared that if he stayed a few seconds longer, this scoundrel might actually infuriate him to death.

...

Once Xiao Yi had left, the room fell quiet, and the old man gathered all smirks, stroking his white-flecked beard in a meaningful manner.

The woman nearby chuckled softly, ”Hall Master, Mr. Yi Xiao seems really annoyed by you.”

Hall Master? If Xiao Yi had been there, he would have been extremely surprised.

For in the entire Northern Mountain County, among the ten major Demon Hunting Halls, there has always been only one Hall Master.

The woman continued, ”If I was not mistaken just now, what you gave Mr. Yi Xiao was a Hall Master Level Demon Hunting Order.”

”It requires 200,000 Task Points to exchange, valid for 5 years. The exchanger’s identity and information are classified within the hall, no one but you can access it.”

”Heh,” the old man, no, the Chief Steward laughed softly, ”That lad is straightforward, yet when it came to his family and those he needs to protect, his face was full of worry and anxiety.”

”I didn’t want him feeling down, so I helped him out.”

The woman shook her head and returned to her work.

At that moment, the old man’s gaze hardened, and he murmured to himself, ”Yi Xiao, in consideration of the old fellow, today I helped you out a bit, don’t let me down.”

After that, the old man turned and said to the woman, ”Oh, Miaomiao, I’m heading back to the county. Charge these 200,000 Task Points to the family’s Chief Steward account.”

”Eh?” The woman was startled and hurriedly replied, ”Hall Master, this is against the rules. If the Chief Steward comes back, he will surely scold me to death...”

Before she could finish her sentence, the old man had already transformed into a wisp of smoke, disappearing from the spot.
