Soul Emperor Martial God

Chapter 91: Chapter 90: Chief Steward of the Demon Hunting Hall

”My cultivation is still too low. If I had a Half-Step Cave Profound cultivation right now, I wouldn’t need to be so passive and anxious in today’s battle.”

Xiao Yi quietly reflected, yet there was nothing he could do about it.

Although he could refine medicine, the Innate Pills contained impurities, which made them unsuitable for continuous consumption; the Nine Revolutions Body Refining Pill, though free of impurities, was a First-grade Elixir and didn’t have much effect on him at his current state.

There was also the Asura Battle Body, which required an excessive amount of Demon Beast Essence Blood—something he could not gather in a short amount of time.

Then there was the Ice Phoenix Sword Soul, which, although allowing him to cultivate at an extremely fast rate, still required time.

Ultimately, what he needed most was time.

Given enough time, his cultivation was bound to leap forward.

However, he seemed to have forgotten that he had only been in this world for a few months, yet he had cultivated to the Innate Third Layer, which was already freakishly fast.

”Phew...” Xiao Yi sat down on the spot, intending to stabilize his injuries first.

Two days later, once his injuries were stable, he took a long detour through Willow Catkin City and returned to Baiwu City.

Of course, he had anticipated that the battle with Zhong Wuyou would cause a stir. Therefore, before entering the city, he made some disguise.

The so-called disguise was nothing more than wearing a straw raincoat.

Along the way, he frequently heard Martial Artists and Demon Hunters discussing the battle from two days ago.

”Hey, have you heard? Two days ago, the genius Demon Hunter Yi Xiao defeated Young Master Wuyou.”

”According to Martial Artists present at the battle, it was nerve-wracking and extremely thrilling.”

”Of course, I’ve heard. Now, who in Northern Mountain County doesn’t know the name of Purple Flame Yi Xiao?”

”It’s a pity I missed such an exciting fight.”

”In fact, some even say that Purple Flame Yi Xiao is worthy of being in the top ten of the Northern Mountain Ranking, even ranked above Young Master Wuyou.”

”...”

Many people were discussing animatedly.

Xiao Yi himself was rather helplessly wondering when he had acquired the nickname ”Purple Flame.”

...

Without paying much attention, Xiao Yi went straight to the Demon Hunting Hall and quickly took on two tasks while no one was looking.

These two tasks involved killing Heavenly Defect and Earth Defect and Black and White Impermanence.

Heavenly Defect and Earth Defect, as well as Black and White Impermanence, had long been listed as bounty tasks in the Demon Hunting Hall.

However, no one had been able to handle them, and ordinary people were unwilling to offend Shadow Tower, so these tasks had gone unclaimed.

Since he had killed them two days ago, there was no reason not to claim the Task Points that were owed to him.

Approaching the Task Department, Xiao Yi handed over his token.

The staff at the Task Department glanced at it and immediately, their expression changed, eyes widening in surprise at Xiao Yi.

Of course, now Xiao Yi was under the guise of a straw raincoat and mask.

”Don’t make a sound; I’m just here to turn in a task,” Xiao Yi quickly said.

The staff member nodded politely and said, ”Alright, I’ll record this for you.”

After a moment, the staff member returned the token to Xiao Yi, courteously saying, ”Martial Artist, for two Fourth Level tasks, you receive a total of 60 Task Points. Here is your token and the reward.”

Xiao Yi nodded, took back his token, and was about to leave.

The staff member hurriedly said, ”Martial Artist, wait a moment.”

”What is it?” Xiao Yi asked with a frown.

”The records show that you now have a total of 1500 Task Points. You qualify to become a Deacon in our Demon Hunting Hall. I was just inquiring whether you would be interested in joining.”

”A Deacon in the Demon Hunting Hall?” Xiao Yi looked puzzled, then shook his head, ”No need.”

He wasn’t sure about the rules of the Demon Hunting Hall or the requirements for becoming a Deacon, and Xiao Yi didn’t want to waste time here for the time being.

”Alright, Martial Artist, take care,” the staff said politely, and then continued with their work.

Just as Xiao Yi was about to leave, suddenly...

An inexplicable force suddenly bound him, rendering him immobile.

This force was powerful and elusive, and although the Demon Hunters of the Demon Hunting Hall came and went, not a single one noticed anything unusual about him.

Only he himself, his face changed drastically, and a sense of foreboding rose in his heart.

”Who is restraining me?” Xiao Yi stood still, inwardly astonished. Someone had silently restrained him, without alarming the numerous staff and Demon Hunters in the Demon Hunting Hall.

This person’s Cultivation must be very strong.

Just as Xiao Yi was rapidly considering his options, a Demon Hunting Hall staff member suddenly approached him.

The newcomer was a woman, about twenty years old, not strikingly beautiful, but definitely pretty.

Xiao Yi’s brow furrowed. Based on his observation, the woman before him had not appeared in any department of the Demon Hunting Hall before, seeming to have appeared out of nowhere just now.

”Purple Flame Yi Xiao.” The woman leaned close to Xiao Yi’s ear and whispered, ”Our Chief Steward has requested your presence, please follow me.”

No sooner had the woman’s voice faded than the restraining force on him vanished, allowing him to move.

”Chief Steward?” Xiao Yi’s brows knitted tightly, the woman before him only possessed Innate Realm Cultivation.

Was it the Chief Steward who had just restrained him?

The so-called Chief Steward was the person in charge of a Demon Hunting Hall.

Northern Mountain County had nine Grand Deacons, and one Sub Hall Master.

The nine Grand Deacons were responsible for nine Demon Hunting Halls, each managing one.

Above the nine Grand Deacons was the Sub Hall Master.

In Northern Mountain County, this Sub Hall Master was almost a legend, permanently stationed at the county seat, commanding all the Demon Hunting Halls of the county.

His power was great, overshadowing all other major forces, including the Northern Mountain Murong Family and even Shadow Tower.

His Cultivation was rumored to be the strongest, second only to the Sect Leader of the Sky-splitting Sword Sect.

As for the nine Grand Deacons, they were also important figures within the jurisdiction of their respective Demon Hunting Halls, each one of them a Mystic Breakthrough Realm Martial Artist.

Under the woman’s guidance, Xiao Yi passed through the Task Department of the Demon Hunting Hall.

It turned out that there was an Inner Hall inside the Demon Hunting Hall; it must be where the Demon Hunting Hall staff usually lived or handled internal affairs.

The woman stopped in front of a central room, knocked on the door, then gracefully stepped inside.

Xiao Yi also entered.

The room was large, with bookshelves filled with rolls, files, and various materials on both sides.

A desk was in the center, and an elderly man was reading a book at the desk.

After bowing to the old man, the woman sat down at another desk to handle her own work.

Staff of the Demon Hunting Hall always seemed to be very busy.

Xiao Yi glanced at the old man, only to find that he could not see through the old man’s aura.

In his eyes, the elder was like a deep pool with no bottom in sight, unfathomable.

If he wasn’t mistaken, this man was the Chief Steward of the Baiwu City Demon Hunting Hall.

In the dozen or so cities near Baiwu City, he was the person with the strongest power and highest Cultivation.

”Sit,” the elder said lightly, closing his book and looking up at Xiao Yi.

”There’s no need; I can stand,” Xiao Yi replied calmly, shaking his head, ”May I know what matter the Chief Steward has called me here for?”

The elder put aside the book and then stared at Xiao Yi, a hint of satisfaction flickering in his eyes.

”Not bad. To remain neither servile nor overbearing in my presence, Purple Flame Yi Xiao, your reputation is well-deserved.”

Xiao Yi’s brows furrowed; he was unsure of the Chief Steward’s intentions.

”If the Chief Steward has no instructions for me, I have urgent matters to attend to and will take my leave,” he said.

In front of such a profound martial artist, Xiao Yi did not intend to stay any longer.

”Hehe,” the old man suddenly chuckled and said, ”Yi Xiao, there’s no need to be formal. I’ve called you here with no ill intent. I merely wish to inquire whether you would be interested in becoming a Deacon for our Demon Hunting Hall.”

”Deacon?” Xiao Yi’s brows furrowed even more. Facing the elder, he naturally wouldn’t dismiss him with a perfunctory ’no need’ as he might with ordinary Demon Hunting Hall staff.

However, he was even less willing to waste time.

The elder nodded with a smile that was not quite a smile, ”Yi Xiao, I think highly of you. If you are willing, I can immediately arrange to complete all the necessary procedures for you.”

”Becoming a deacon of our hall, you would have easy access to honor, power, and status. Of course, you would need to pay a small price.”

”Price?” Xiao Yi’s face showed a hint of confusion.
