Soul Emperor Martial God

Chapter 64: Chapter 63: Recruitment Mission

The Exchange Album was filled with treasures that made Xiao Yi’s eyes light up with greed.

Fourth-grade Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, Fire Dragon Fruit, could enhance the Fire Attribute Martial Soul’s ability to control fire by several times.

Fifth-grade Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, Mysterious Blue Fruit, could allow Martial Artists below the Mystic Breakthrough Realm to break through three layers of cultivation at will.

Fourth-grade Elixir, Sky-breaking Pill, taken by Innate Martial Artists, grants the ability to fly for a short period within one day, making it the top choice for escaping and saving one’s life.

Fifth-grade Elixir, Moonlight Pill, refined from the essence of the sun and moon, temporarily enhances a Martial Artist’s cultivation significantly, giving them the combat power of a Great Realm above their own for three hours.

Peak Xuan Rank Martial Technique, Thunderclap Palm.

Low-level Earth Rank Martial Technique, Devouring Demon Three Sabers.

Low Grade Spiritual Artifact, Demon Hunting Blade.

High Grade Spiritual Artifact, Three Thousand Thunder and Fire Stick.

”Gulp,” Xiao Yi couldn’t help but swallow his saliva, his eyes filled with longing.

”With so many treasures, aren’t you afraid of being robbed?” Xiao Yi asked with a slight smile and then glanced at a spot in the hall, where a group of Martial Artists in black robes were present.

They were members of the Demon Hunting Hall’s Law Enforcement Team, all of whom had formidable combat power, and Xiao Yi couldn’t see through their levels of cultivation.

This proved that the weakest among them were at least Innate Martial Artists, if not stronger.

Xiao Yi glanced a few more times at the Exchange Album before putting it down.

The items listed in the Exchange Album were incomplete, with only a few examples of elixirs, Heavenly Materials and Earthly Treasures, weapons, and Martial Techniques listed.

When Demon Hunters needed to exchange items, they could view a complete album.

Rumors say that in the Main Hall of the Royal Capital of the Flame Martial Kingdom, they possess even Top-grade Spiritual Artifacts, Heavenly Rank Martial Techniques, and even legendary treasures.

Xiao Yi shook his head slightly, dispelling the distracting thoughts.

Those powerful treasures were not something he could possess for the time being; he had to get his hands on the Source Cultivating Vermilion Fruit first.

The Source Cultivating Vermilion Fruit, ranked as a Third-level Heavenly Material and Earthly Treasure, was classified as rare and hard to buy outside.

At the Demon Hunting Hall’s Exchange Points, however, it cost 100 points.

Xiao Yi frowned, ”100 Task Points, the difficulty is not great, but time might be an issue.”

He still had to go to the Sky-splitting Sword Sect.

”Tsk tsk.”

At that moment, Xiao Yi heard sounds of surprise and admiration from beside him.

He turned his head and saw a girl, about 15 or 16 years old, in front of a bookshelf.

The girl was engrossed in her reading, thoroughly enjoying the books on the past history and heroic deeds of the Demon Hunting Hall, occasionally clicking her tongue in appreciation.

Xiao Yi couldn’t help but chuckle.

”What are you laughing at?” the girl suddenly turned around, puffing up in annoyance as she stared at Xiao Yi.

”Hehe,” Xiao Yi laughed and was just about to say it was nothing, but when he saw the girl’s face, he suddenly froze, staring at her.

The girl, dressed in a light green long robe, was very beautiful, and her annoyed expression was quite adorable.

Most importantly, she resembled Yiyi in age and height.

For a moment, Xiao Yi mistook her for Yiyi.

”Hey, we don’t know each other, and it’s very rude for you to stare at me like that, do you believe I could hit you?” the girl stamped her foot, looking ready to strike.

Xiao Yi shook his head and looked away.

Apart from the different appearance, the girl shared many similarities with Yiyi.

But Yiyi was gentle and endearing.

Meanwhile, the girl clearly seemed like someone who enjoyed causing trouble.

Xiao Yi looked away, apologized briefly, and then headed off on his own to the consultation area.

The consultation area was still manned by the same young woman.

”Yi Xiao, is there anything you don’t understand?” the woman asked with a smile.

Now that Xiao Yi had picked up his Token, becoming a Demon Hunter, out of respect, the woman did not call him Youth but referred to him by his name.

Xiao Yi nodded, saying, ”I want to ask if the items in the Exchange Album can be bought directly with money?”

Xiao Yi added, ”I can offer a price higher than what you would get on market, two times or even three times more.”

The woman shook her head with a smile, ”No, it doesn’t matter how high the price you offer is. The Demon Hunting Hall has its rules; being a Demon Hunter is a prestigious occupation, and only by completing tasks and earning the corresponding honors can you qualify to possess the treasures of the Demon Hunting Hall.”

Xiao Yi was helpless; money was not a problem for him now, after all, before leaving, the elders had given him quite a bit of Silver Tael, and he could easily spare a hundred or two thousand.

But the Source Cultivating Vermilion Fruit could not be found in the trading companies outside, of course, not to say it was totally unobtainable, but it depended on chance.

Shaking his head, Xiao Yi looked towards the Task Department.

The Task Department had a column of tasks, divided into four levels: Level 1, Level 2, Level 3, and Level 4 Task.

The densely packed tasks, already graded, allowed Demon Hunters to review the specific requirements and difficulties of each task.

Xiao Yi briefly glanced at it.

Level 1 tasks were generally straightforward, such as clearing fierce wild beasts outside the city, or helping a trading company move goods for a few weeks.

Wild beasts are much weaker than demon beasts; an average Mortal Realm Warrior can easily handle them, but they only offer one Task Point.

A second-level task is moderately difficult. It mostly involves escorting trade caravans to neighboring cities.

On the roads outside the city, unlike within the city, robbers and even demon beasts may be encountered from time to time.

At least warriors at the Mortal Realm Ninth Layer and above, or even Postnatal Realm Martial Artists are confident in completing these, earning five Task Points.

A third-level task...10 points.

A fourth-level task...30 points.

The higher the level of the task, the greater the difficulty, and correspondingly, the more Task Points are earned.

”Completing ten third-level tasks is just enough to accumulate the Task Points needed to exchange for a Source Cultivating Red Fruit.”

”The Demon Hunting Hall takes a ten-percent commission from each mission’s reward; adding up to ten times, it equates to the price of a piece of Source Cultivating Red Fruit, and even more.”

”Ordinary third-grade medicinal materials cost just a few hundred Silver Tael, and while the Source Cultivating Red Fruit is too rare and hard to buy with money, its price does not exceed a thousand Silver Tael.”

The effects of the Source Cultivating Red Fruit itself are not significant; Xiao Yi just needs it to refine the Golden Vein Pill. If it were another alchemist, they might not be interested in it.

Reward missions are issued by individuals, families, or powers to the Demon Hunting Hall, offering generous rewards. Third-level tasks, typically offer rewards of over two thousand Silver Tael.

Even if the Demon Hunting Hall only takes a ten percent cut of the reward, the amount accumulated from ten missions would significantly exceed the price of a Source Cultivating Red Fruit itself.

”This Demon Hunting Hall is really shrewd, not only not losing out but also earning,

”and getting demon hunters around the world to willingly risk their lives.”

”Tsk tsk, as one of the oldest powers, it’s indeed no pushover.”

Though grumbling inwardly, Xiao Yi couldn’t do anything about it. After all, the hall had deep reserves and access to all kinds of rare treasures.

Xiao Yi gathered his thoughts and murmured, ”Well, let’s just complete ten third-level tasks first.”

Just as Xiao Yi prepared to head towards the Task Department,

”Wait a moment,” a woman suddenly stopped Xiao Yi.

”Yi Xiao, you didn’t pay close attention to the precautions, did you?” the woman said with a smile, ”You are only a Level 1 Demon Hunter now; you can’t take on higher-level tasks.”

”What do you mean?” Xiao Yi was stunned, then asked, ”Can I only take on level one tasks?”

”Yes,” the woman said. ”This is also for the safety of demon hunters. If you’re not strong enough and forcefully take on a high-difficulty task, not only could you lose your life, but you would also delay the task, wasting other demon hunters’ time.”

”This...” Xiao Yi suddenly became agitated. Level one tasks only offer one Task Point; would he not need to complete 100 tasks? He simply didn’t have that much time to waste here.

The woman remained silent but still wore a smile.

Suddenly, Xiao Yi, with sharp eyes, noticed some tasks on the board without a rating, yet they all offered more than ten Task Points.

The woman glanced at it and explained, ”Those are recruitment tasks, published by the Demon Hunting Teams, to recruit team members to complete missions together. Whether or not you can take this task is decided by the Demon Hunting Team itself, so our Demon Hunting Hall does not provide a rating for it.”

The tasks that required an entire Demon Hunting Team to complete must not be simple, no wonder they offered more than ten Task Points.

”Can I take on this task?” Xiao Yi asked.

The woman nodded and replied, ”You can, but only if others think highly of you.”

...

Outside the Demon Hunting Hall, Xiao Yi, with the Purple Cloud Iron Sword hanging at his waist, had the appearance of a world-traveling demon hunter.

In reality, ever since Xiao Yi’s Fire Control Beast Martial Soul was yellow, his condensed Fire Sword had already been more powerful than the Purple Cloud Iron Sword, and now it was even green, making its power even stronger.

But since it was prepared by the Third Elder, Xiao Yi felt obliged to accept it.

Besides, this was the least valuable thing he possessed, and it served to mimic an experienced warrior.

Initially, Xiao Yi was full of confidence.

But, as he was rejected by one Demon Hunting Team after another, he was almost infuriated to death.

”Kid, it’s impressive for someone so young to have Postnatal First Layer cultivation, but you are still too weak for our Demon Hunting Team. Ask someone else if they want to recruit you.”

”Just at Postnatal First Layer? Forget it, we are looking to complete tasks with team members, not to bring along a burden.”

”Kid, get lost.”

”...”

The same phrases repeated almost incessantly.

Almost all the captains of the Demon Hunting Teams, upon seeing that Xiao Yi was just a young man, didn’t appear to be an experienced demon hunter, and perceiving that he only had Postnatal First Layer cultivation, refused him without hesitation.

”Sigh,” Xiao Yi sighed, ”in this world, without strength, indeed every door is closed. To think my first experience as a demon hunter would be treated like this.”

Xiao Yi recalled when he first started out as an assassin in his previous life, already a legendary assassin with a hundred percent mission success rate, how glorious he was.

Although a demon hunter was different from an assassin, it was similar to the mercenaries of his past life, similarly involving money-driven actions.

Back to the main point.

Before his encounter with Murong Mo, Xiao Yi’s eight main veins were damaged, and they had not yet recovered.

The damaged veins either needed to be treated with elixirs or could be slowly nurtured with the True Qi in his body.

To recover the veins, some second-grade elixirs had effects, but the key was that the required materials were rather obscure, and Xiao Yi did not possess these materials at the moment.

Like the Source Cultivating Red Fruit, though it was used to refine elixirs that restored veins, Xiao Yi was reluctant to use it.

During his travels, Xiao Yi solely relied on his body’s True Qi to nurture one of his main veins, merely able to exhibit the cultivation of Postnatal First Layer.

The captains of the Demon Hunting Teams sensed his cultivation and naturally perceived only the Postnatal First Layer.

Recalling the heart-piercing pain from the Ice Phoenix Sword’s backlash and the cold that seemed to freeze his soul, Xiao Yi shivered slightly in fear.

”Forget it,” Xiao Yi shook his head and dismissed his stray thoughts, whispering, ”I’ll try to find another Demon Hunting Team; if it doesn’t work out, then so be it. I’ll rest for a period and directly head to the Sky-splitting Sword Sect.”
