Chapter 38: Chapter 37: Iron Blade Demon Hunting Team

”All of your young disciples are here, then what about the other small mines? Don’t tell me the Murong Family only has two small mines?”

Xiao Yi looked at Murong Xuan with confusion.

Murong Xuan honestly replied, ”Of course not, we have ten small mines. However, the other eight have hired Demon Hunters to help with the mining, so we only need to leave one disciple to guard them.”

”So that’s how it is,” Xiao Yi said coldly. ”That way, you have the manpower to snatch the small mines of the Xiao Family.”

In this world, so-called Demon Hunters, in Xiao Yi’s view, were roughly similar to the mercenaries on Earth in his previous life. As long as the employer could afford it, they could get them to help with anything.

”Uh... well...” Murong Xuan stammered, fearing he would anger Xiao Yi.

Just then, suddenly, a figure swiftly attacked and snatched away Murong Xuan.

At the same time, a dozen figures suddenly appeared, standing in front of the Murong Family disciples.

Xiao Yi’s gaze turned fierce, and he shouted, ”Retreat.”

As soon as the word was out, Xiao Zhuang, Xiao Zimu, and the others quickly reacted, retreating behind Xiao Yi.

The dozen figures that had suddenly appeared did not pursue Xiao Zhuang and the rest. They simply cut the ropes to free the Murong Family disciples.

Hiss, hiss, hiss... sword lights flashed, and the ropes were cleanly severed, liberating the Murong Family disciples.

These unexpected figures, each holding a weapon and with a cold countenance, were clearly no ordinary martial artists.

”Are you Demon Hunters?” Xiao Yi asked coldly, looking at the dozen people.

”Indeed.” The figure who had just appeared and grabbed Murong Xuan stepped forward after untying him and approached Xiao Yi.

”Young Master of the Xiao Family, I am Wang Yuan, vice captain of the Iron Blade Demon Hunting Team. My apologies for the offense,” the man said to Xiao Yi with a bow.

Xiao Yi sized up the man before him, about thirty years of age with a ferocious scar across his face, and a calm and steady presence, clearly not ordinary.

”You think you can take them away right before my eyes?” Xiao Yi said indifferently, looking at Wang Yuan.

Wang Yuan’s expression darkened as he said in a deep voice, ”Young Master of the Xiao Family, we are only paid to eliminate disasters for others. Please do not make things difficult for us.”

Had it been anyone else, Wang Yuan would have certainly drawn his sword or directly left with the Murong Family disciples. But when he looked at Xiao Yi, he could feel a pressure that made him not dare to act rashly.

Xiao Yi said sternly, ”You’ve injured so many disciples of our Xiao Family, and you think I would just let them go?”

”This...” Wang Yuan thought for a moment, then suddenly snatched an Intermediate Qiankun Bag from Murong Xuan and threw it to Xiao Yi.

”Young Master of the Xiao Family, this should serve as an apology. Would that be acceptable?” Wang Yuan said.

Xiao Yi glanced into the Qiankun Bag, nodded, and then said to Xiao Zhuang and the others, ”Let’s go.”

They had not walked far when Xiao Yi suddenly stopped, turned back, and said indifferently, ”Hear this clearly, Murong Family. If you dare to snatch mines from the Xiao Family or kill the Xiao Family disciples again, I will slaughter every one of you I see.”

”And for you, Iron Blade Demon Hunting Team. Protecting Murong Family disciples once is fine, but if there is a next time, if you provoke me again, I will make you disappear completely.”

From beginning to end, Xiao Yi’s tone was flat, but within that calm was an unmistakeable undercurrent of murderous intent, which made Wang Yuan and the others go cold.

...

”Wang Yuan, why did you give my Qiankun Bag to that little good-for-nothing? With your Postnatal Sixth Layer strength, along with the other Demon Hunters, you could have easily killed him, or at the very least taken us away safely.”

After Xiao Yi and the others had left, Murong Xuan angrily questioned Wang Yuan.

Yet Wang Yuan watched the Xiao Family disciples leave for a long time, to be precise, Xiao Yi’s retreating figure.

”What are you staring at? I’m talking to you,” Murong Xuan said in anger.

Wang Yuan did not answer until the Xiao Family members had completely vanished from sight. Only then did he sigh in relief.

”That young man is terrifying,” Wang Yuan said.

”What do you mean?” Murong Xuan was startled and asked.

Wang Yuan shook his head and said, ”He gives me a great pressure, this pressure, it’s not about cultivation, but it’s like...”

”Like what?” Seeing Wang Yuan’s solemn expression, Murong Xuan couldn’t help but ask.

Wang Yuan spoke gravely, ”Like an executioner, one who has killed countless people, with hands drenched in blood.”

Murong Xuan sneered, ”Wang Yuan, what kind of joke are you making? Xiao Yi is just a boy, how could he have killed countless people?”

”My feelings are not wrong,” Wang Yuan’s face grew even heavier as he said, ”I roam the Meteorite Mountain Range all year round, have faced countless dangers, and have escaped from the jaws of demon beasts and various perils many times. I have developed a keen intuition.”

”In any case, you won’t go wrong by listening to me,” Wang Yuan said seriously to Murong Xuan, ”Do not provoke Xiao Family’s disciples, especially Xiao Yi, otherwise, our Iron Blade Demon Hunting Team will immediately terminate our contract with you.”

...

On the other side, Xiao Yi had already walked off with Xiao Zhuang and the others.

Xiao Zhuang said indignantly, ”Xiao Yi, we really shouldn’t have let the Murong Family’s disciples off just like that earlier. They went too far, I really wanted to teach a lesson to them.”

Xiao Yi spoke indifferently, ”There was no choice, that Demon Hunting Team is not easy to deal with. Moreover, over a hundred of Murong Family’s disciples have been untied, and though they are injured, they still represent a formidable force when unified.”

Seeing that Xiao Zhuang and the others still harbored resentment, Xiao Yi said with a smile, ”You probably wouldn’t be angry anymore after you know what’s inside this Qiankun Bag.”

”Oh?” Xiao Zhuang and Xiao Zimu were slightly puzzled.

Xiao Yi opened the Qiankun Bag, and instantly, a purple aura surged to the skies.

”It’s Purple Cloud Iron,” Xiao Zhuang exclaimed happily.

”Yes,” Xiao Yi said with a smile, ”The bag is filled to the brim, probably Murong Xuan and their crew’s mining yield for an entire month or two.”

...

As night fell, Xiao Yi and his group returned to the Xiao Family’s large mine.

The large mine was more than a hundred times larger than the small ones and covered a vast tract of land.

The Three Great Families had each built a massive base on their own large mine—well-defended and beyond the reach of outsiders.

Small mines could merely be seen as minor skirmishes among family disciples, and even if one was robbed, the impact wasn’t significant. The large mines, however, were vital to the Three Great Families and could not possibly fall into the hands of outsiders.

It was also Xiao Yi’s first visit to the Xiao Family’s large mine. Seeing the towering purple peaks that reached into the clouds, he was amazed at the wonders of this world.

The dense Purple Cloud Iron not only dyed the entire sky purple but also wrapped the Xiao Family Camp, looking as if it were enveloped by a huge purple gemstone, extremely beautiful.

Xiao Yi took out a piece of Purple Cloud Iron from the Qiankun Bag and squeezed it hard, using about ten percent of his strength to crush it.

With Xiao Yi’s power, even just ten percent was much stronger than the Mortal Realm Ninth Layer.

One could imagine the durability of the Purple Cloud Iron; no wonder it was used in the forging of weapons and fetched a high price.

”Yo, Xiao Yi, you got here quickly.”

”I heard from the Great Elder that you set out this morning; you should have arrived tomorrow at the earliest.”

Two familiar voices came, and looking up, Xiao Yi saw it was the Fourth Elder and the Sixth Elder.

Within the family, the Seventh, Eighth, and Ninth Elders colluded with the Fifth Elder; while the Fourth and Sixth Elders were neutral but sometimes leaned towards the Third Elder.

These two were responsible for matters related to the Xiao Family’s Mine, and after dealing with the family’s miscellaneous affairs, they had returned to the mine early.

”Greetings to the Fourth Elder and the Sixth Elder,” Xiao Zhuang and the others paid their respects.

Xiao Yi, however, did not need to bow; his status as the Young Master was on par with that of the various elders.

Xiao Yi said, ”I wanted to come over earlier, so I didn’t ride a horse, I just ran here.”

It was fortunate he did not ride slowly; otherwise, he definitely would not have been able to rescue Xiao Zhuang and the others in time today.
