Ning An's Wild Wish System

Everything about Li Yang was settled, so Ning An stopped paying attention to that side.

Instead, he began to ponder the other news brought by Lin Yanke.

The appearance of Lu Taiyi only indicated one issue, which was that the speed of Spiritual Qi Revival had accelerated.

If there were no Grotto Heaven Blessed Land, it would be difficult to cultivate in the mundane world, as the concentration of Spiritual Qi must at least meet the minimum threshold.

According to predictions, the concentration of Spiritual Qi in the mundane world would take at least one or two more years to reach the minimum threshold.

But now, it seems there has been a change.

Officially, the development of the Mountain and Sea Mountain Range continues, but their contact with Ning An has decreased.

When Ning An casually asked, they just laughed it off, saying they didn’t want to trouble Ning An too much, and that they could handle some trifling matters on their own.

This was probably not Ning An’s illusion, as the official side seemed more confident.

Hmm, this is getting interesting...

This year’s lunar calendar is later, so the Mid-Autumn Festival also comes later than usual.

There were more vehicles than usual, as everyone rushed home as soon as possible.

Ning An’s master was traveling somewhere, and Lin Yanke was also at home.

The whole Daoist Temple was deserted, so Ning An closed the door for a day and went out to the street festival.

The streets were crowded with people coming and going, full of various folk performances, and with the vendors shouting, it was very lively.

Even the usually aloof shops had gained a touch of humanity.

”Ladies and gentlemen, free samples, free samples, don’t miss out.”

”Hey, the taste of this beef doesn’t seem right, let me try two more pieces to confirm.”

”Yeah, boss, this tastes more like pork, give us two more pieces, and we’ll surely find out.”

”Hey, why is there cilantro in this beef? I don’t like cilantro, I’m leaving.”

The festive atmosphere on the street was intense, and as Ning An walked along, he felt as if something had been added to his heart.

The street also had folk performances like yangko dances and stilt walking, which the crowd found entertaining.

This reminded Ning An of the performances during holidays in his previous life.

But unfortunately, these performances had become less frequent, and even during New Year’s, the festive spirit had faded considerably.

The crowd moved in a stream, and Ning An followed.

Not long after, he found himself in front of a City God Temple.

From appearances alone, it seemed to be of considerable size, and from the discussions around him, Ning An roughly understood that this City God Temple was over five hundred years old and was said to have been built during the Ming Dynasty.

Outside the City God Temple, every brick and tile exuded a sense of historical vicissitudes, but the overall structure was well-preserved, and the small incense burner was filled with incense sticks.

It looked quite prosperous from a religious standpoint.

Then, as Ning An looked around, his eyes fell upon ”Him.”

At first glance, Ning An recognized that ”He” wasn’t human.

This was undoubtedly due to ”His” ancient attire and long, flowing hair.

The figure also seemed surprised to see Ning An, then approached him.

He bowed slightly to Ning An and said, ”Greetings, Sir.”

”?????”

Ning An hurriedly returned the bow, but he was puzzled and didn’t understand what the figure meant.

”Sir carries many spiritual markings. I can’t recognize them, but I understand they belong to distinguished figures like you.” Seeing Ning An’s confusion, the scholar-like ancient person explained.

”Are you the City God here?” Ning An tentatively asked.

The scholar-like ancient person shook his head and replied bitterly, ”I am just a scribe under Lord City God. There hasn’t been a Lord City God here for over four hundred years.”

In front of the City God Temple, people came and went, pay no attention to this place.

Many even walked right through ”Him,” clearly indicating that ”He” was in a spiritual form.

”There hasn’t been a City God for over four hundred years?” Ning An asked in return.

”You didn’t know?” The scholar was surprised.

”Ah? Should I have known?” Ning An touched his nose, feeling a bit embarrassed.

Because others couldn’t see the scholar, they assumed Ning An was talking to himself.

Many gave him puzzled looks, and some even took out their phones, ready to inquire whether any mental hospitals had lost patients.

”Sir, let’s move over here.”

The scholar, noticing the situation, led Ning An to a corner.

Once in the corner, the scholar, upon seeing Ning An’s continued confusion, sorted out his words and cautiously asked, ”Sir, have you come to take me back to the Netherworld?”

”Netherworld? You mean the Underworld, right? Why would I take you?” Ning An asked curiously.

”That’s good, that’s good,” the scholar sighed in relief upon hearing this.

”But if Sir didn’t come to take me back to the Underworld, and isn’t aware of the insider information, how come you have so many spiritual markings of distinguished figures?” The scholar was bewildered and couldn’t quite grasp it.

”Everyone has their own destiny.”

Ning An glanced at him, calmly remarking.

As Ning An was contemplating how to continue extracting information from him, he heard the scholar nervously ask, ”Is Sir’s surname Zhang?”

”Zhang?”

The Zhang from Dragon Tiger Mountain?

Interesting.

Ning An shook his head, but didn’t deceive him... ”My surname isn’t Zhang, it’s Ning.”

”It’s good to not be Zhang, really good.” The scholar relaxed completely, smiling as he spoke.

Ning An looked at the seemingly mysterious scribe and sensed intuitively that there was certainly something significant at play here.

Ning An asked, ”Can you tell me, what did all your previous words mean?”

”Those are all matters of the past. If Sir doesn’t know about them, it’s better not to know,” the scholar respectfully yet firmly said after performing a formality, ”Today is the festival, and I have the duty to protect the peace of this place, so I won’t accompany you further, Sir.”
