Demon Lord reborn as The Hero's Child

The training ground looked as though a localized apocalypse had been unleashed upon it.

Deep, jagged trenches violently scarred the earth, exposing the pale roots of the surrounding trees. Several ancient oaks had been reduced to splintered, smoking trunks, their heavy canopies collapsed into the mud. Large patches of the once-green grass were completely blackened, scorched to ash by the sheer, volatile output of Kōya’s heavily suppressed demonic mana. Thick, freezing puddles of muddy water covered what little remained of the clearing, the lingering aftermath of Mizuki’s sudden, absolute downpour.

Kōya stood perfectly still in the dead center of the devastation, wrapped in a dry, oversized wool tunic, staring at the ruin he had helped create in complete, suffocating silence.

His wooden practice sword lay abandoned near the edge of a smoking crater, half-buried in the mud.

He slowly turned his head, his dark eyes locking onto the Beastwoman.

Kaela was sitting completely casually against the trunk of an untouched tree on the perimeter, one leg propped up, aggressively eating a large red apple.

Kōya narrowed his eyes into a fierce glare.

”Where exactly did you get that?”

Kaela didn’t look at him. She took another loud, crunching bite, the juice running down her chin.

”The kitchen.”

Kōya stared at her, genuinely appalled by her complete lack of domestic respect.

”You stole another one?”

She shrugged lazily, chewing with her mouth open. ”I vastly prefer the word *borrowed*.”

”You didn’t ask permission.”

”Then I vastly prefer the word *stolen*.”

Kōya released a long, heavy sigh that felt centuries old.

Of all the terrifying, traumatic, and humiliating things he had experienced since being violently reborn into this fragile mortal vessel, somehow, this feral woman was rapidly becoming one of the most utterly exhausting.

Kaela tossed the half-eaten apple slightly into the air, caught it, and pointed it at him.

”Come here, boy.”

Kōya hesitated, his pride warring with his exhaustion, before reluctantly trudging through the mud toward her.

She pointed a scarred finger out toward the ruined training ground.

”Look at it.”

”I am currently looking at it,” Kōya answered flatly.

”No. Really look at the mechanics of the destruction.”

Kōya turned his head, his brow furrowing.

He meticulously studied the deep trenches carved erratically into the earth. The cleanly severed, broken trees. The heavily scorched patches of grass. He looked specifically at the exact impact points where her roaring crimson blood-aura had violently collided with his own abyssal, demonic power.

Kaela pushed herself off the tree trunk and walked slowly to stand beside him, her boots sinking slightly into the mud.

”You’re incredibly powerful.”

Kōya glanced up at her profile. ”I know.”

She smirked, a sharp flash of fangs. ”Your humility is truly inspiring.”

”I was simply stating a measurable, objective fact.”

”I know,” she murmured softly.

She walked forward, stopping right beside the edge of one of the deepest trenches he had carved.

”You’ve got enough raw, unadulterated power locked inside that tiny chest to utterly terrify people who are significantly older and stronger than you.”

Kōya’s expression became dead serious. He knew a lesson was coming.

”But?”

”But you fight like you’re desperately trying to convince the world that you’re still someone you used to be.”

Kōya went completely, absolutely still. The blood drained from his face, his heart skipping a violent beat.

Kaela continued pacing, keeping her eyes on the mud, speaking before he could formulate a defense.

”Your fundamental sword technique is flawless. Your combat instincts are vastly, terrifyingly better than they should be for a child. Your reaction speed is mathematically ridiculous for someone your age.”

She stopped and pointed the tip of her boot directly toward his muddy shoes.

”But your physical movement is a complete, categorical disaster.”

Kōya looked down at his feet, his jaw tight. ”My movement?”

”Your footwork.”

She tapped the wet ground sharply with her heel.

”You have the absolute, ingrained instincts of a warlord who has fought on the front lines for hundreds of years. But your physical body hasn’t lived those years. Your legs are tiny. Your bones are soft. Your balance is completely different. Your center of gravity is significantly lower. Your muscles haven’t physically developed enough to support the massive, sweeping movements your ancient brain is trying to force them to make.”

Kōya frowned, a dark, heavy shadow falling over his eyes.

He hated how absolutely, surgically accurate her assessment was.

”You were reading my movements before I even swung.”

”Of course I was.”

”How?”

Kaela smiled, looking down at him with the eyes of a veteran.

”Because your feet always tell the absolute truth long before your sword ever does.”

Kōya looked at her carefully, hanging on her every word.

She pointed a finger at his default stance.

”You constantly think about where you want your blade to end up. I don’t watch your blade. I watch exactly where your center of weight shifts first.”

She nudged his small boot with hers, forcing him to correct his balance.

”When you attack, you commit entirely too much upper body weight, assuming you have the mass to follow through. You don’t.”

Another sharp tap to his ankle.

”When you retreat, you instinctively straighten your back, exposing your vital organs, assuming you have armor to absorb a grazing blow. You don’t.”

Another tap to his heel.

”When you rapidly change direction, your rear foot takes a fraction of a second too long to follow, because your hips are too narrow to carry the torque.”

Kōya’s expression slowly, painfully darkened into a scowl of pure humiliation.

”I understand the biomechanics.”

”Good.”

She stepped backward, crossing her arms over her chest.

”Now walk.”

Kōya blinked, completely derailed. ”What?”

”Walk across the yard.”

”I am perfectly aware of how to walk.”

Kaela raised a scarred eyebrow. ”Are you?”

Kōya stared at her, his ancient pride bristling.

She stared right back, utterly unbothered by his demonic aura.

He released a sharp sigh, turned his back to her, and began walking deliberately across the ruined clearing.

Kaela watched his feet like a hawk.

”Stop.”

He froze mid-stride.

”Again. From the beginning.”

He gritted his teeth, turned around, and walked.

”Stop.”

He stopped, his fists clenching.

”Your left foot is turned too far outward.”

Kōya looked down, his face burning. ”What about it?”

”It bleeds kinetic energy. Straighten it.”

He violently corrected the angle.

”Now your right.”

He jerked his right foot into alignment.

”Again. Walk.”

He walked.

”Again.”

He walked.

”Again.”

Kōya’s left eyebrow began twitching violently. ”This is completely absurd.”

”No.” Kaela took another agonizingly loud bite of her apple. ”This is actual training.”

”I was expecting something significantly more advanced from you.”

”You literally tried to cut me in half with an apocalyptic wave of demonic energy ten minutes ago,” she pointed out calmly.

”And you effortlessly dodged it.”

”Exactly.” She smiled, tossing the apple core into a smoking crater. ”And then I stood there and watched the almighty little boy almost fall over because the recoil was too much for his tiny knees.”

Kōya’s face hardened into a mask of pure, murderous stone. ”I did not almost fall over.”

”You absolutely did.”

”I recovered perfectly.”

”After almost falling over into the mud.”

Kōya turned his head away, his chest heaving with frustrated breaths.

Kaela laughed, a soft, knowing sound. ”Your massive pride is going to get you killed, Kōya.”

Kōya looked fiercely back at her. ”Perhaps.” His voice became much quieter, carrying the chilling, resonant echo of the Destruction King. ”But it has kept me alive through things you couldn’t possibly imagine.”

Kaela’s playful expression changed slightly. She stopped smiling.

She studied him in the fading light for a long, quiet moment, looking past the body of a child and directly into the eyes of a monster.

”Then keep it,” she whispered.

Kōya raised an eyebrow, surprised. ”But?”

”Learn exactly when to put it away.”

She walked past him, her boots splashing softly in the puddles.

”Raw power isn’t everything.”

Kōya looked out toward the ruined clearing, the shadows lengthening as the sun dipped lower.

He knew that already. At least, he thought he did.

He had once possessed enough raw, apocalyptic power to crush standing armies into dust. Enough power to make the kings of entire continents tremble in their sleep.

Yet, all that unimaginable strength had not saved his wedding day.

It had not saved Mirei from having to sacrifice her own soul.

And it had not saved him from bleeding to death on the cold stone of his own courtyard.

Now, trapped inside this small, fragile human body, he had been violently forced to learn something even more humiliating.

His greatest, most fatal weakness was not his current lack of power.

It was the fact that he still arrogantly expected his old power to instantly solve every single problem.

Kaela stepped seamlessly into a relaxed fighting stance, raising her empty hands.

”Again.”

Kōya trudged over to the mud, bent down, and picked up his battered wooden sword, wiping the grime from the hilt.

”What now?”

”Reach me.”

”That’s it?”

”That’s it.” She raised one hand, tapping her own collarbone. ”Touch my shoulder with the tip of your sword.”

Kōya narrowed his dark eyes suspiciously. ”You’re not going to attack me?”

”If you can actually touch me, I’ll attack.”

Kōya stared at her, assessing the physical distance. ”That’s an entirely unfair condition.”

”Life is violently unfair, kid. Go.”

He sighed, lowering his center of gravity.

Then, he moved.

He exploded off his back foot, his wooden sword shooting in a flawless, rapid thrust directly toward her shoulder.

Kaela simply stepped half an inch to the side.

Kōya immediately changed direction, sweeping the blade horizontally.

She moved backward, flowing like smoke.

He swung a heavy overhead arc.

She ducked, the wood passing over her hair.

He followed her movement, stepping aggressively into her space.

She completely disappeared from his line of attack.

Kōya spun violently around, his eyes wide.

She was standing perfectly still directly behind him, her arms crossed.

”Too slow.”

He gritted his teeth, his pride stinging.

Again.

He attacked, aiming a flurry of rapid thrusts.

She moved, dodging every single one without drawing a weapon.

Again.

She moved.

Again.

She moved, looking entirely bored.

Kōya’s breathing became ragged and heavy. The muscles in his small legs burned with lactic acid.

His deep frustration rose, boiling into anger.

He accelerated, pushing his physical vessel past its safe limits, trying to overwhelm her with sheer volume of attacks.

Kaela continued avoiding him with insulting, ghostly ease.

”Stop chasing my sword arm,” she commanded sharply, weaving under a desperate strike.

Kōya frowned, panting heavily. ”What?”

”You’re watching the weapon. You’re watching my hands.”

She tapped her own heavy boot against the dirt.

”Watch the body. Watch the foundation.”

Kōya gripped his sword with both hands, steadying his ragged breathing. He lowered his gaze.

He attacked again.

This time, he didn’t look at her shoulders. He watched her feet.

Kaela stepped backward to avoid a sweep.

Kōya immediately tracked the shift in her weight and followed the exact angle of her retreat.

She shifted her hips to pivot sideways.

He shifted his own weight in perfect synchronization, mirroring her center of gravity.

For the very first time since his reincarnation, he didn’t try to overwhelmingly overpower his opponent with brute force or demonic speed.

He simply moved *with* her.

One calculated step.

Then another.

Kaela’s golden eyes narrowed in sudden, sharp surprise.

Kōya abruptly changed his direction, planting his front foot and pivoting on his heel before she could complete her shift.

The tip of his wooden sword reached out and lightly, perfectly tapped the leather of her shoulder.

Silence descended on the yard.

Kōya froze in place, his chest heaving, his sword still resting against her collarbone.

Kaela looked down at the wooden blade pressing against her shoulder.

Then, she looked back at his exhausted, sweat-drenched face.

”Good.”

Kōya slowly lowered the heavy wooden sword, letting the tip rest in the mud.

A small, genuine, and incredibly proud smile appeared on his dirt-streaked face.

”I did it.”

”You did,” she affirmed quietly.

His smile widened, a rare moment of pure childhood triumph.

Then, with a terrifying *shing*, Kaela drew one of her steel swords from its scabbard.

”Again.”

Kōya’s smile instantly evaporated into horror.

”What?”

”You did it successfully once.”

She pointed the razor-sharp steel blade directly at his face.

”Now do it ten consecutive times.”

Kōya stared at her, absolutely appalled. ”You said ’reach you’.”

”I changed my mind.”

”You can’t just unilaterally change the established rules of the engagement!”

”I’m your master. I am the rules.”

Kōya’s expression melted into one of profound, existential regret.

*What have I done?*

The sun continued its slow, bleeding descent toward the western hills, painting the sky in bruised hues of purple and gold.

The brutal training resumed.

Again.

And again.

Kōya fell into the mud.

He forced his trembling legs to stand.

He fell again, tasting copper in his mouth.

He stood again, refusing to stay down.

Kaela ruthlessly corrected his stance, the angle of his steps, the rhythm of his breathing, the torque of his turns.

She made him fight entirely without tapping into his microscopic reserves of demonic mana, forcing him to rely purely on his physical vessel.

Then, she made him fight while completely, physically exhausted, when his muscles were screaming for oxygen.

Then, she made him dodge her steel blade without looking directly at her weapon, training his peripheral vision and spatial awareness.

Every single time he failed, every time he tripped over his own small feet, she made him violently repeat the movement until it was burned into his muscle memory.

And slowly, almost imperceptibly as the hours dragged on, his new body actually began to learn.

His feet stopped moving a fraction of a second before his ancient mind gave the conscious order. The movement became autonomous.

His balance drastically improved, anchoring him to the earth.

His turns became tighter, cleaner, wasting zero kinetic energy.

His attacks finally began flowing naturally *into* his physical movements, instead of violently forcing his body to follow the momentum of the blade.

Kōya vividly noticed the physiological difference.

So did Kaela.

But neither of them said much about it. It was a silent, mutual acknowledgment of growth.

Until Kōya suddenly moved in a way he shouldn’t have been able to.

She thrust her steel blade forward.

His body violently twisted, folding almost in half. His rear foot shifted in a complex, unnatural pivot. His wooden sword swept around Kaela’s guard in a blinding, fluid, serpentine arc that defied human joints.

She stopped her blade instantly, her eyes widening.

Her golden eyes narrowed into dangerous slits.

”Where exactly did you learn that maneuver?”

Kōya froze entirely, the wooden sword hovering inches from her neck.

The movement had been purely instinctive. A desperate reflex dragged up from the depths of another life.

It was a highly advanced, royal demonic guard-break. Something his current, human body should absolutely never have known, let alone executed flawlessly.

He slowly lowered his wooden sword, his heart pounding a frantic rhythm against his ribs.

”I don’t know,” he lied, his voice eerily calm.

Kaela stared at him, her feline eyes boring into his soul.

Kōya maintained a perfectly blank, stone-cold expression, projecting absolute innocence.

Inside, however, his ancient thoughts were racing in pure panic.

*Too much. I moved exactly like Raizen Kurogane.*

Kaela’s tufted ears twitched. She could clearly hear the sudden, violent spike in his heartbeat betraying his calm face.

But, true to her word, she didn’t expose him.

Instead, she smiled faintly, a terrifying, knowing expression.

”Interesting.”

Then, she turned away, walking back to her starting position.

”Again.”

Kōya exhaled quietly, a shaky breath escaping his lips.

*She knows something is fundamentally wrong with me.*

But she didn’t know exactly what.

Not yet.

Later, as the twilight deepened into a thick blue dusk, Kaela stopped the sparring and casually tossed him the heavy wooden sword.

”Left hand.”

Kōya hesitated, staring at the weapon in the mud.

He slowly reached down and took it with his left hand.

The very absolute moment his fingers closed firmly around the wooden grip, the familiar, violent resistance returned.

His demonic mana recoiled violently from his left side, as if striking an impenetrable wall of iron. The invisible, structural barrier inside his chest pushed back aggressively, sending a spike of dull pain through his ribs.

Kōya’s brow tightened in deep frustration.

Nothing. He couldn’t channel the dark.

Then, for the absolute briefest, microscopic instant, something completely different flickered across his left palm.

A pale, blindingly pure light.

It was so faint, so fleeting, he almost thought his exhausted mind had hallucinated it. It carried no heat, no malice, no destructive weight. It felt like absolute protection.

Kōya immediately clenched his left hand into a tight fist.

The pale light instantly disappeared.

Kaela’s ears twitched. Her eyes darted to his closed fist.

She had seen it.

Neither of them spoke.

Kōya looked up toward her, his dark eyes filled with a mixture of terror and profound confusion. What was inside him?

Kaela simply sheathed her sword and sighed, breaking the tension.

”That’s enough for today, kid.”

Before Kōya could question her further, a familiar, warm voice echoed across the dark yard.

”Kōya!”

He looked toward the house.

Mizuki stood near the open doorway, framed by the warm, golden light spilling from the kitchen.

The sun had completely disappeared behind the western hills, leaving the world to the shadows.

”Come inside, sweetheart. It’s getting late.”

Kōya looked up at the darkening, vast sky.

Then, the heavy reality of the calendar crashed into him.

Tomorrow.

His journey to the Royal Academy began tomorrow morning.

He slowly lowered the wooden sword to his side.

Kaela, watching him closely, noticed the sudden, profound shift in his demeanor. The arrogant warrior vanished, replaced by a quiet boy.

”You nervous?” she asked softly.

”No,” Kōya answered immediately.

She smiled, a gentle, genuine expression.

”You’re a terrible liar, Kōya.”

Kōya didn’t answer. He didn’t have the energy to defend his pride anymore.

Seiya stepped outside, standing beside Mizuki on the porch.

”Come on, Kōya.” His father smiled, waving him over. ”Tomorrow is a very big day.”

Kōya nodded silently.

He looked once more out at the distant lights of the quiet village in the valley.

For the very first time since he had received his acceptance, the prospect of attending the elite academy didn’t feel exciting or opportunistic.

It just felt incredibly, agonizingly far away from home.

That evening, dinner was significantly quieter than usual.

The wooden table was filled with rich, familiar food, the smell of roasted meat and vegetables filling the small space.

Mizuki hovered, continuously, aggressively adding more and more food to Kōya’s already overflowing plate.

Kōya, staring at the literal mountain of potatoes and meat, eventually looked up.

”Mother.”

”Yes, Kōya?” she asked, scooping another spoonful of stew.

”I firmly believe that is enough.”

”You need to eat to keep your strength up.”

”I am currently eating.”

”You’re a growing boy facing a long journey.”

Kōya looked down at the enormous portion threatening to spill onto the table.

”I do not realistically think I am growing that quickly.”

Seiya laughed loudly from the other end of the table.

”Just let your mother feed you, Kōya. It’s a battle you will never win.”

Kōya sighed heavily, resigning himself to his fate.

He picked up his fork and continued eating in silence.

After dinner, when the heavy dishes had been cleared and washed, Seiya approached him near the hearth.

”Come with me.”

Kōya looked up from the fire. ”Where?”

”You’ll see.”

They left the warm house together, stepping out into the cool night air.

The village below them had slowly become quieter as the hour grew late, the sounds of livestock and working men fading into the chirping of crickets.

They walked in silence along the familiar, winding dirt path leading toward the high hill overlooking the entire settlement.

Kōya had been up here countless times before during his secret training.

But tonight, walking slightly behind the Hero, the ascent felt completely different.

They reached the crest of the hill.

Below them, the small, peaceful village glowed warmly beneath the vast, darkening sky. Tiny, flickering lights shone gently through the windows of the rustic houses. The cool night wind moved gently through the tall grass, making a soft, shushing sound.

Seiya sat down heavily in the grass, crossing his legs.

Kōya stood for a moment, then sat quietly beside him, keeping a respectful distance.

For a long while, neither of them spoke. The silence was vast, but it wasn’t heavy or oppressive.

Seiya casually opened a small, woven cloth bundle he had brought with him and pulled out some simple, salted dried meat and bread.

Kōya looked at it, raising an eyebrow. ”You brought second dinner?”

”Just a little something,” Seiya smiled, offering him a piece.

They ate together under the stars.

The silence wasn’t uncomfortable. It was profoundly peaceful.

Kōya looked down at the village. Their own house was clearly visible from this vantage point, a warm beacon on the edge of the dark woods.

It was the place where he had first awakened in this fragile body.

The place where Mizuki had held him through his screaming night terrors.

The place where Seiya had caught him every single time his legs gave out.

The place where the Supreme Demon Lord had first, agonizingly learned what it actually meant to be someone’s son.

Tomorrow morning, he would leave it all behind.

Seiya leaned back, resting his weight on his hands in the grass.

”Do you know what I miss most about my years traveling the world, Kōya?”

Kōya looked at his father’s profile in the moonlight. ”What?”

”The people.”

Kōya remained silent, listening intently.

Seiya stared up at the endless canvas of stars.

”When I was much younger, before the war truly broke me... I thought being a Hero meant becoming strong enough to defeat absolutely anything that stood in my way.”

Kōya’s expression changed, his eyes widening slightly in the dark.

Seiya continued, his voice thick with nostalgia and old regrets.

”I genuinely thought absolute, overwhelming strength was the definitive answer to every single problem in the world.”

Kōya almost smiled, a bitter, tragic twist of his lips.

You weren’t the only one, Father.

Seiya began to talk openly about his long, brutal journey.

He spoke about traveling across burning kingdoms. About fighting grotesque monsters in the dark. About his loyal, broken companions. About desperate, bloody battles that had nearly killed him, leaving scars that still ached in the cold. About ordinary, terrified people who had bravely stood beside him on the front lines, even when they had every logical reason to run away.

Then, inevitably, the Hero spoke about the Demon Lord.

About the long, apocalyptic war. About the sheer, unadulterated destruction that followed in the wake of the dark armies.

Kōya listened carefully, his chest tightening.

Every single word carried a strange, suffocating weight.

He knew the other side of that bloody history perfectly. He had authored it.

He knew exactly what the terrified humans had called Raizen Kurogane.

Monster. Tyrant. Destroyer. The Ultimate Evil.

But now, sitting on a peaceful hill, he was hearing Seiya’s personal, intimate memories.

Not exaggerated history. Not heroic legends written by bards. Raw, bleeding memories.

Seiya eventually fell quiet, his golden eyes reflecting the starlight.

”I hated him,” Seiya whispered to the night.

Kōya looked at him, his heart hammering against his ribs.

Seiya’s voice grew significantly softer, stripped of all venom, leaving only an ancient exhaustion.

”Raizen.”

Kōya’s small fingers tightened violently, pulling up a handful of grass by the roots.

”I hated what he did to the world. I hated the suffocating, paralyzing fear that always surrounded his name. I hated the millions of innocent people who suffered and burned because of his absolute command.”

Kōya looked away, staring down into the dark valley.

He couldn’t argue. He couldn’t defend his past. Not completely.

Seiya continued, his voice thoughtful.

”But at the very end... there were things about him I never fully understood.”

Kōya snapped his gaze back to his father. ”What things?”

Seiya smiled faintly, a sad, complicated expression.

”I don’t know for certain.”

He stared out toward the distant, invisible horizon where the capital used to stand.

”Maybe people are never as simple, or as purely evil, as the grand stories written about them.”

Kōya’s heart gave a sudden, incredibly painful beat.

Mizuki had once said almost the exact same thing to him in the dusty library.

History is written by those who survive to hold the pen.

Seiya continued talking, shifting the conversation away from the dead king.

He told Kōya about the fragile people he had sworn to protect. The specific, haunting faces of the people he had failed to save. The beloved friends he had watched die in the mud. The darkest moments in the abyss when he had desperately wanted to lay down his sword and give up entirely.

Then, his tone shifted entirely as he spoke about the day he met Mizuki.

His battle-hardened expression changed immediately, melting into something incredibly warm and vulnerable.

Kōya noticed the profound shift. The legendary Hero completely disappeared. Only his father remained.

Seiya smiled, looking down at his hands.

”That’s exactly when I realized something important, Kōya.”

”What?”

”I realized I didn’t want to spend my entire existence fighting a war.”

He looked down toward the warm lights of their village.

”I wanted somewhere quiet to return to.”

Kōya stared at him, absolutely captivated by the confession.

Seiya continued, his voice thick with emotion.

”I wanted someone waiting for me at the end of the road.”

His smile became unimaginably warmer, turning to look directly into Kōya’s eyes.

”And eventually, more than anything else... I wanted a child.”

Kōya quickly looked away, staring fiercely at the grass.

For some inexplicable reason, his chest felt strangely, unbearably tight, as if a physical weight were pressing down on his lungs. His eyes burned.

Seiya laughed softly, a rich, grounding sound.

”I never in a million years imagined I’d become the kind of soft, domestic person who would actively worry about whether his son ate enough vegetables at dinner.”

Kōya forced a small, shaky smile. ”You worry entirely too much.”

”That’s what fathers do, Kōya.”

The heavy, beautiful words settled quietly between them on the hilltop.

Kōya looked up toward the vast, uncaring stars.

He had once possessed absolutely everything a man could desire.

Unlimited power. Absolute authority. The terror of continents. A sprawling, invincible kingdom of dark spires.

Yet, in all those centuries of supreme rule, he had never truly understood this specific, quiet magic.

A person waiting for you at the door.

A warm place to return to when the fighting was done.

Someone actively worrying whether you had eaten enough.

Someone who wanted you alive simply because you were you, and not because you commanded an army.

His eyes slowly began to grow incredibly heavy, the emotional and physical exhaustion of the day finally catching up to his small body.

Seiya noticed his head bobbing. ”Tired?”

”No,” Kōya lied, unleashing a massive yawn that cracked his jaw. ”I’m actively listening.”

”I can tell,” Seiya chuckled.

Kōya desperately tried to sit upright, fighting the sleep. But his eyelids became heavier than lead.

Seiya laughed quietly. ”You should sleep, Kōya.”

”I don’t want to.”

”Why not?”

Kōya looked down toward the glowing village, his vision blurring slightly.

”Tomorrow...”

His voice faded into the wind.

Seiya waited patiently.

Kōya’s heavy head slowly tilted sideways, resting against Seiya’s strong arm.

”I have to leave,” Kōya mumbled into the fabric.

”Yes,” Seiya whispered softly.

There was a long, peaceful pause in the dark.

Then, completely unconsciously, stripped of all his demonic pride and ancient barriers, Kōya whispered softly into the night:

”Father...”

Seiya completely stopped breathing for a terrifying moment.

The profound, miraculous word hung suspended in the cool night air.

Kōya didn’t seem to realize what he had just confessed. His breathing had already leveled out. His dark eyes had closed. He was fast asleep.

Seiya stared down at the small boy leaning against him.

Then, his hardened expression melted entirely. A brilliant, impossibly bright smile slowly appeared across his scarred face, tears pricking the corners of his golden eyes.

He reached down with absolute gentleness and lifted Kōya into his arms.

The boy stirred slightly but didn’t wake.

Seiya placed him carefully onto his broad shoulders, supporting his back.

Kōya’s small arms instinctively, naturally wrapped tightly around his father’s neck, anchoring himself.

Seiya stood up tall.

He began the slow walk down the hill.

The warm village lights grew closer and brighter with every single step. The cool wind moved softly through the tall grass, whispering ancient secrets.

Kōya slept perfectly, profoundly peacefully against him.

For a man who had once carried the agonizing weight of the entire burning world on his back, Seiya Amane found this small, fragile weight to be the most strangely precious thing he had ever known.

He smiled into the dark.

”My son...”

The words disappeared into the quiet night, sealing a bond stronger than any magic.

When Seiya finally returned to the front porch of the house, Mizuki was standing near the door, waiting.

She had clearly been expecting them.

Her worried eyes immediately softened into absolute liquid warmth when she saw Kōya fast asleep on Seiya’s broad shoulders.

”You wore him out completely,” she whispered softly.

Seiya smiled, his golden eyes shining. ”He worked incredibly hard today.”

Mizuki walked quietly over to them. ”Come here, little one.”

Kōya stirred as she carefully, gently took him from Seiya’s back, cradling his small body against her chest.

His dark eyes fluttered open slightly, disoriented in the dim light. ”Mother...?”

”I’m here, Kōya,” she whispered, kissing his forehead.

She carried him inside the warm house, heading toward his bedroom.

Kōya was just awake enough to notice that she was holding him incredibly tight, rocking him slightly as she walked.

”Mother...” he mumbled into her shoulder.

”Hm?”

”I’m not a baby anymore.”

Mizuki smiled, a tear slipping down her cheek in the dark. ”I know.”

She gently adjusted his dark hair, smoothing it back.

”I’m growing up.”

”I know.”

”I’m going far away to the academy tomorrow.”

”I know, sweetheart.”

Kōya looked up at her face, his brow furrowing in sleepy confusion. ”Then why are you holding me like this?”

Mizuki stopped walking. She hugged him even tighter, burying her face in his hair.

”Because you will always be my son.”

Kōya became instantly, profoundly quiet.

She kissed his forehead again, lingering on his skin.

”That fundamental truth doesn’t change, Kōya, just because you’re growing up and leaving home.”

Kōya’s stoic, ancient expression melted completely.

He didn’t argue again. He didn’t invoke his pride.

Mizuki sat with him in the rocking chair by his bed for a long while, holding him tightly against her chest in the dark room.

Kōya rested his head over her heart, listening to the rhythm.

Steady. Warm. Absolutely familiar.

He remembered the quiet hill. Seiya’s deep, gentle voice. The word that had slipped so easily from his mouth without a single thought.

Father.

He had spent his previous, violent life believing absolutely that overwhelming power and fear were what made someone truly important.

Now, wrapped in the dark, he was finally beginning to understand that there were incredibly precious things in the universe that raw power could never, ever create.

A true home.

A loving family.

A warm place where someone would actively wait for you to return from the dark.

Tomorrow morning, he would leave it all behind.

Tomorrow, he would enter a vast, dangerous new world.

Tomorrow, he would officially begin another brutal part of his long journey to reclaim his destiny.

But tonight...

Kōya closed his heavy eyes, sinking into the warmth.

For the very first time since his miraculous reincarnation, he wasn’t obsessively thinking about becoming the Supreme Demon Lord again.

He wasn’t thinking about becoming overwhelmingly stronger.

He wasn’t thinking about violently defeating anyone.

He simply wanted to remain right here for just a little longer.

Wrapped securely in his mother’s loving arms.

With his father’s protective presence still lingering steadily nearby in the next room.

For the first time in centuries, the Destruction King was finally home.
