Demon Lord reborn as The Hero's Child

The wedding bells had not stopped.

They rang through the choking smoke, a joyous, metallic cacophony that mocked the slaughter unfolding below. Raizen Kurogane stood motionless on the highest balcony of the eastern watchtower, his crimson eyes locked on the horizon.

For a fleeting second, his mind refused to process the visual data. The eastern mountains were glowing. But it was not the dull, familiar luminescence of subterranean magma. It was fire. True, consuming fire.

Tens of thousands of torches moved across the jagged darkness, spilling over the ridges and spreading toward the capital like a living, golden tide of venom.

Then came the war horns.

One long, guttural note. Then another. Then dozens, layering into a deafening roar that shook the very foundations of the city. Raizen’s expression flatlined.

The last lingering traces of the man who had stood at the altar died away.

”Report.”

A scout practically threw himself onto the balcony, his armor coated in ash and blood, dropping heavily to one knee. ”My Lord.”

”Speak.”

”The eastern fortress has fallen. The outer garrisons are being systematically slaughtered.”

Raizen didn’t blink. He kept his gaze on the burning horizon. ”How many?”

”We... we cannot get an accurate count, my Lord.”

”Estimate.”

The scout swallowed hard, terror vibrating in his voice. ”At least two hundred thousand hostiles, marching in absolute formation.”

Raizen’s eyes narrowed a fraction. ”And the strength of our defensive line?”

”Less than forty thousand remain in the eastern sector, my Lord. They are being crushed.”

A massive, concussive explosion rocked the city below. The scout pitched forward, catching himself on the stone floor. Raizen didn’t move a single muscle.

Two hundred thousand against forty thousand. That wasn’t a military invasion. It was an extermination.

”Who commands them?” Raizen asked, his voice deathly quiet. The soldier hesitated, trembling uncontrollably.

Raizen slowly turned his head. ”Who?”

”The vanguard banners... they bear the crest of the First Demon Peer.”

Silence settled over the balcony, heavier than the falling ash.

Raizen stared at the terrified soldier. Then, slowly, he closed his eyes and stretched his demonic senses outward, casting his awareness across the agonizing span of his kingdom.

A violent surge of mana in the west. The Second Peer.

A colossal magical disturbance in the south. The Third.

A deep, tectonic vibration grinding beneath his boots. The Fourth.

Four localized apocalypses. Four immense armies.

The realization calcified in his chest. It wasn’t a faction. It was all of them. The four pillars of his empire had unified to tear it down.

Raizen looked down at his black ceremonial coat. Only hours ago, he had been standing beside Mirei. He had stripped off his armor, both literal and metaphorical, for the first time in centuries. He had permitted himself the dangerous luxury of believing in a future that did not smell of burning flesh and copper. A home. A family.

His gloved fingers curled slowly into fists.

”They waited,” Raizen whispered into the ash-filled wind.

The soldier looked up, confused. ”My Lord?”

Raizen’s voice dropped to a frequency that made the very air feel cold. ”They waited until today. Until the exact fraction of a second I laid down my sword.”

Another war horn ruptured the air, closer this time.

Raizen turned his back on the burning city. ”Open the eastern gate.”

The scout’s eyes went wide. ”My Lord? But the enemy vanguard—”

”I know.” Raizen walked toward the descending stairwell, his aura beginning to bleed into the physical world, cracking the stone beneath his boots. ”I will deal with them.”

The colossal iron mechanisms of the eastern gate groaned in protest as they were forced open.

As the massive doors parted, the charging enemy vanguard ground to a chaotic halt. A strange, suffocating silence rolled across the blackened battlefield.

Raizen Kurogane walked out of the capital alone.

No royal guard. No elite vanguard. No weapon drawn.

The Demon Lord simply walked onto the killing fields, his ceremonial coat snapping in the superheated wind. Hundreds of thousands of heavily armed demons watched him, paralyzed by an instinctual, genetic terror.

Then, the ranks parted.

Seraphine Veyra, The First Demon Peer stepped forward.

She was a tall, imposing woman whose beauty carried none of Mirei’s effortless elegance. Her features were sharp, almost predatory, and two swept-back horns emerged from her dark hair. Her eyes glowed with a deep crimson light, and a long, elegant tail moved slowly behind her.

She was a succubus, sultry and irresistibly seductive.

But not Mirei’s kind.

Her bloodline belonged to an ancient and far more aggressive branch, one that had been bred through centuries of conquest, domination, and soul manipulation.

She smiled. ”My Lord.”

Raizen stopped a hundred paces away. ”You.”

”I was wondering when you would calculate the truth of the board,” Seraphine chuckled, gesturing expansively with her free hand.

Raizen looked past her. The army stretched endlessly, swallowing the horizon in steel and fire. ”You brought an army of this magnitude against your own kingdom.”

”Your kingdom,” Seraphine corrected.

Raizen’s gaze sharpened, glowing like dying stars. ”Was.”

Seraphine smiled, her crimson eyes gleaming with malicious triumph. ”Not for much longer. The era of your stagnation ends tonight.”

Raizen took one deliberate step forward. ”Why?”

Seraphine laughed, a sharp, melodic sound that carried over the silent army.

”Because you stopped being a Demon Lord! We watched you, Raizen. We watched you decay. You stopped harvesting souls. You protected the weak. You negotiated treaties instead of drowning continents in blood.”

”And then...” Her eyes narrowed. ”You married her.”

Her gaze shifted toward the distant palace.

”Mirei.”

A strange smile touched her lips.

”I always wondered what you saw in a succubus of that bloodline.”

Raizen’s expression hardened.

”Do not mention Mirei.”

Seraphine laughed softly.

”Why? Because you know I’m right?”

Her smile widened.

”Your wife is not weak, Raizen. Her bloodline is simply... different from mine.”

The temperature on the battlefield seemed to plunge beyond anything natural.

Even the flames burning across the distant ruins appeared to hesitate.

Raizen vanished.

The air imploded. A shockwave of displaced atmosphere flattened the front ten rows of the enemy vanguard.

Before Seraphine could even register the movement, a fist encased in dark, crushing gravity slammed into her. Arcane defensive wards shattered like glass.

Seraphine was launched backward with the force of a meteor, tearing a trench through the earth and completely demolishing a stone siege tower before violently crashing into a jagged rock formation.

Raizen materialized instantly, hovering above her, his boot slamming down onto her chest, pinning her to the crater.

”You were always beneath me,” Raizen whispered, the demonic pressure radiating from his body threatening to turn the surrounding soldiers into mist.

He raised a hand, dark matter condensing in his palm, preparing to erase the traitor from the timeline entirely. ”You simply mistook my patience for permission.”

He prepared to strike.

Then, he stopped.

A shrill horn sounded from the west.

Another echoed from the south.

The ground beneath the crater heaved violently as subterranean explosives detonated.

Raizen slowly turned his head.

Beneath his boot, coughing up thick blood, Seraphine smiled a horrifying, shattered smile. ”You cannot fight us all, Raizen. Not at once.”

Raizen stared down at the broken monster. The tactical reality was absolute. If he stayed here to butcher this army, the other three would breach the inner walls.

”No,” Raizen admitted coldly. He slowly lowered his hand, the dark matter dissipating into the wind. ”But I can remember your face when I return.”

He vanished, leaving a vacuum of displaced air in his wake.

The western district was a sea of fire.

Raizen materialized in the sky just as the secondary defensive wall began to crumble under heavy siege fire.

”Fall back!” he commanded, his voice magnified by raw mana, echoing over the chaos.

The loyalist soldiers obeyed instantly, scrambling away from the collapsing masonry.

Raizen raised his hand and swept it horizontally. A devastating crescent of dark energy tore through the enemy formation, instantly atomizing hundreds of heavily armored troops and bisecting their siege engines.

The surviving loyalists cheered. ”My Lord!”

Raizen didn’t answer. He wasn’t looking at them. He was listening.

An explosion ripped through the southern skyline.

He turned sharply. A massive fissure split the earth miles away. The subterranean front.

His jaw tightened until his teeth ached. Every time he plugged a leak, the dam cracked somewhere else. The four Peers were not trying to defeat him in direct combat; they were forcing him into an agonizing tactical gridlock.

Save the west. The south burns.

Save the south. The underground collapses.

Save the underground. The eastern fortress is overrun.

Every localized victory manufactured a catastrophic defeat somewhere else.

Miles away, hidden in a reinforced command bunker, the Second Demon Peer watched the battlefield through a hovering, scrying crystal.

”He is still trying to save everyone,” she noted, her voice devoid of inflection.

The Third Peer stepped out of the shadows behind her. ”That is precisely why his reign ends tonight. He will fight until his mind fractures. Until he finally understands the fundamental truth.”

”And what truth is that?”

The specter’s eyes glinted in the dark. ”That a god cannot be everywhere at once.”

Raizen materialized in the central palace.

The grand throne room was a tomb. His elite honor guards lay dead. His ancient crimson banners had been torn down.

The delicate wedding decorations still clung to the pillars. White flowers. Cascading black silk. Intricate silver ornaments. Now, a thick layer of grey ash had settled over all of it.

Raizen stared at the ruined flowers.

He remembered Mirei laughing at the nervous noble. He remembered her effortlessly elegant reflection in the mirror. He remembered the heat of her hand in his.

For the first time since the sky had begun to fall, a cold, suffocating dread seized his heart.

”Mirei.”

He spun around. The silence was absolute.

”Where is she?”

No one answered.

Raizen began to move, his walk quickly accelerating into a frantic blur. ”Mirei!”

He tore through the palace. The grand banquet hall. Empty. The hanging gardens. Empty. The western corridors. Empty.

Then, his heightened senses caught a pulse.

It wasn’t the violent, jagged mana of an enemy. It was ancient. Deep. A suffocatingly calm pressure. It was her.

Raizen moved.

Mirei stood perfectly still in the center of the grand inner courtyard.

She was surrounded by a sea of slaughtered loyalists. A few wounded soldiers were dragging themselves across the blood-slicked stone, desperately trying to crawl toward the inner keep.

She looked up at the towering black walls of the palace. Beyond them, the sky was completely obscured by smoke and raining fire. The four armies were tightening the noose. East. West. South. Below.

She perfectly understood the tactical reality. Once they breached the inner sanctum, the slaughter would be absolute.

Since birth, Mirei had possessed a rare manifestation of her succubus bloodline.

A boundary.

An absolute separation of space. Nothing could touch her without her explicit permission. No blade could cross it. No hand could seize her. No assassin could reach her.

It was why Raizen was the only person who could touch her without resistance.

But the ability had one cruel limitation. The boundary could protect only one designated target at a time. Until now, that target had always been Mirei herself.

Mirei looked toward the soldiers.

Then toward the burning city.

Her eyes softened.

”Not anymore.”

She gracefully raised her right hand. Her invisible, suffocating aura violently expanded. The atmospheric pressure in the courtyard inverted. A translucent, impossibly complex wall of arcane energy erupted outward from her body. It swept over the bleeding soldiers. It passed through the palace walls. It devoured the inner city.

It rapidly expanded across the outer districts, pushing through the burning streets until it slammed into the outer defensive walls.

And then, it kept going.

Higher. Wider. Deeper.

Until the entire, massive expanse of the Demon Capital was enclosed in a perfect, impenetrable dome of shimmering, prismatic energy.

The four encroaching armies slammed into the barrier simultaneously.

The first wave of eastern siege magic detonated against the dome. The barrier did not even ripple. The western artillery fired a concentrated volley. The shells dissolved into harmless light. The southern vanguard charged and were violently thrown backward, their bones shattering on impact. Beneath the earth, the subterranean horrors clawed at an impenetrable floor of light.

The endless roar of the war came to a grinding, shocking halt.

In the center of the courtyard, Mirei slowly lowered her hand. She was breathing heavily, a faint tremor wracking her delicate frame.

A wounded loyalist looked up at her, awe and terror warring in his eyes. ”My Lady...”

Mirei looked down at him and offered a gentle, exhausted smile. ”Rest now. Everyone is safe.”

The soldier stared past her at the colossal dome encompassing the sky. Then, the horrific realization dawned on him. She had enforced a supreme separation.

But the fatal flaw of her magic remained. She could only project one boundary.

Mirei’s personal invincibility was gone.

Raizen tore into the courtyard, the stone cracking beneath his boots.

”Mirei!”

She turned slowly. He froze.

The massive, shimmering reflection of the city-wide dome reflected in his wide crimson eyes.

”What did you do?” he breathed.

She offered him that same, infuriatingly beautiful smile. ”I solved your tactical problem.”

Raizen looked up at the sky. The four catastrophic armies were trapped outside. Then, his gaze snapped back to his wife.

”You inverted your boundary. Over the entire capital.”

”Yes.”

The color drained from the Demon Lord’s face. ”You cannot maintain that volume of mass. It will tear your soul apart. You will die, Mirei.”

She didn’t answer.

Raizen stepped forward, his hand rising, dark energy coiling around his fingers. ”I will shatter it. I will bring the dome down.”

”No.”

”Mirei, drop it!”

”If you shatter it, they will flood the inner city. The innocent will burn.”

”I do not care about them!” Raizen roared.

”I know,” she said softly. ”But I do.”

She took a slow, trembling step toward him. ”You have spent centuries bathing in blood to build this empire. You have spent your entire, lonely existence protecting this kingdom.” She reached out, her now-vulnerable hand resting against his chest.

”Let me protect it. Just this once.”

Raizen stared down at her, his heart hammering against his ribs.

Then, his eyes caught it.

A thin, dark line of blood trailing down her porcelain forearm.

His pupils contracted into pinpricks. ”Mirei... you’re bleeding.”

She glanced over her shoulder.

Several enemy infiltrators emerged from the smoke.

Mirei recognized some of their faces. They had been there that morning.

They had stood among the nobles during her wedding. They had watched her exchange vows with Raizen. Now they carried the banners of the traitors.

One of them looked at her and smiled.

”The Demon Lord’s bride can bleed after all.”

One of the assassins drew a serrated blade and lunged.

Raizen moved to intercept, a roar tearing from his throat, but Mirei threw out her hand. ”No!” She stepped directly into the assassin’s path. The serrated blade slashed horizontally, carving a deep, brutal arc across her side.

Raizen completely froze. Time stopped.

Dark, beautiful blood splashed against the pale grey stone.

Mirei violently staggered, clutching her side.

The assassin stared at his bloody sword in absolute disbelief. He had touched her.

Drunk on the impossible victory, a second infiltrator charged.

Mirei spun, her eyes flashing with ancient, abyssal magic. She snapped her fingers, and the man’s head twisted cleanly off his shoulders. A third lunged; she drove a spike of condensed mana through his heart.

But there were too many. And without her absolute boundary, every deflected strike, every grazing blow, left a shallow cut.

Raizen surged forward, ready to erase the entire courtyard.

Mirei shook her head, gasping for breath. ”Stay back.”

”I will not!”

”You have to!”

A heavy broadsword clipped her shoulder. Mirei gasped, her legs giving out, and collapsed heavily onto one knee.

The entire world went silent.

Raizen’s aura exploded.

It wasn’t a pulse of magic. It was a localized extinction event. The courtyard stone pulverized into dust. Gravity magnified tenfold, crushing the infiltrators into the floor. The air turned a sickening, suffocating shade of crimson.

”I said...” The atmosphere violently trembled. ”...stay away from my wife.”

The surviving assassins didn’t even have time to scream before their bodies were simultaneously reduced to red mist.

Raizen crossed the distance instantaneously, dropping to his knees and catching Mirei just before she fell. Her dark blood soaked his gloves.

”Mirei,” he gasped, his hands trembling.

She looked up at him, her breathing shallow and ragged. ”I’m sorry.”

”No. Stop talking.”

”You know exactly what happens... if you drop the barrier to heal me.”

”I will butcher every single one of them!” Raizen snarled, tears of pure rage burning in his eyes.

”You can’t.”

”I am the Demon Lord! I can do anything!”

”Not while keeping everyone else alive.”

Raizen’s fierce, terrifying expression broke, shattering into a mask of pure, desperate agony.

She reached up, her bloody fingers gently tracing his jaw. ”You finally found something in this desolate world worth protecting.” Her eyes swam with unshed tears. ”And now... you want to throw it all away just for me.”

”Yes!” he confessed violently. ”Without hesitation.”

Mirei placed her hand against his chest.

”Take me with you.”

Raizen stared at her.

”What?”

”Absorb my soul.”

His expression immediately hardened. ”No.”

”Raizen.”

”I will not consume you.”

”You’re not consuming me, love”

She smiled faintly.

”I’m choosing where I go.”

Her fingers pressed gently against his chest.

”I want to remain with you.”

”As your power?”

”As Mirei.”

Her voice softened.

”The power is only what will allow me to stay.”

Raizen couldn’t speak. His throat was clamped shut by grief.

High above them, the colossal barrier flickered, groaning under the sustained bombardment of the four armies.

Mirei forced her head to turn toward the outer walls. ”They’re still there.”

Raizen looked up. Beyond the shimmering dome, the endless legions of his former commanders waited.

And then, his senses caught something else.

Far beyond the armies, a singular, brilliant presence moved through the burning ruins.

Holy mana.

Clean. Focused. Almost painfully bright against the demonic miasma.

Raizen knew that presence.

The Hero.

Seiya Amane.

He had already entered the Demon Capital.

His party had crossed the outer defenses before the four armies could completely close the city. Somewhere beyond the ruined districts, they were steadily making their way toward the central palace.

Raizen’s eyes narrowed. So that was the final piece.

The four Demon Peers had surrounded the capital. The Hero had already entered it.

And now Mirei had sealed the city. The barrier wasn’t meant to let the Hero inside.

He was already there. It had only one purpose. To keep everyone else out.

The four armies struck the barrier again. The eastern forces attacked first.

The barrier did not move. The western army unleashed another concentrated assault. Nothing.

The southern vanguard charged. They were violently thrown backward.

Even the subterranean forces found their path completely sealed beneath the earth.

The four armies could no longer enter the capital. Raizen finally understood what Mirei had done. She had separated the battlefield into two worlds. Outside the barrier were the four Demon Peers and their armies.

Inside was the capital. Inside was everyone she had chosen to protect. And somewhere within that sealed city...

stood the Hero.

Mirei looked up at Raizen. ”Now you understand.”

Raizen stared at her. ”You knew he was already inside.”

”Yes.”

”You knew what would happen.”

Her smile faded. ”I knew what had to happen.”

Raizen’s expression tightened.

”No.”

Mirei reached for his hand.

This time, there was no invisible boundary between them.

Her fingers closed around his.

”I didn’t create this battle, Raizen.”

She looked toward the distant ruins where the Hero was approaching.

”I only made sure nobody else could interfere.”

Mirei looked back up at him. ”Now... you can fight without restraint.”

Raizen’s eyes swam with an ocean of rage, grief, and profound love. ”I don’t want to fight.”

”I know, my love.” She rested her fading forehead against his. ”But you must live. For both of us.”

Her body began to emit a blinding, ethereal light.

Raizen squeezed his eyes shut, tightening his arms around her. ”Mirei... please.”

”Remember something for me,” she whispered.

”Anything.”

A faint, loving smile touched her lips.

”You were the only one who could touch me when I was alive, who held me in your arms with a gentle, loving smile.”

Her fading lips curved into a gentle smile.

”Now I’ll be the one holding you, my love. Our souls are forever intertwined.”

The light exploded, blinding and absolute.

Raizen threw his head back and let out a roar of primal, soul-tearing agony that shook the very foundations of the world.

He felt her immense, ancient warmth flood his veins. He felt the suffocating weight of her aura intertwining with his own. He felt the terrifying, agonizing intimacy of a soul grafting itself onto his core.

She dissolved into him.

High above, the flickering dome flared with renewed, terrifying brilliance, turning from a soft prism into a deep, aggressive crimson. The barrier held.

Raizen knelt on the shattered stone, utterly alone.

For several long, agonizing seconds, the Demon Lord did not move. He did not breathe. He simply stared at his empty, blood-soaked hands.

Then, he felt it.

A pulse. Deep within the center of his chest.

Warm. Familiar. Anchoring.

He closed his eyes and whispered into the empty courtyard, his voice cracking.

”Mirei?”

Silence stretched.

Then, a voice. Faint, echoing softly in the darkest corridors of his mind, but undeniably real.

*I am here.*

Raizen’s eyes snapped open. The agonizing grief instantly froze, hardening into a glacier of absolute, unyielding resolve.

He slowly stood up. He wiped the blood from his hands, smearing it across his ceremonial coat.

The wedding bells were still ringing in the burning wind.

Outside the impregnable dome, the four armies of the Demon Peers screamed and raged helplessly at the sky.

Inside the dome, the board was set. Two men. A ruined kingdom.

The Demon Lord. And the Hero.

The old Demon Lord had returned.

But he was not the same man who had stood on the battlefield that morning.

Mirei was inside him now. Not as a chain.

Not as a command. Not as a restraint.

She was his anchor. The reason he would not allow his grief to consume him.

Raizen stared at the approaching Hero. Deep within his soul, he felt that familiar warmth. He closed his fist

”For both of us,” he whispered, his voice breaking beneath the weight of his grief.

Then the Demon Lord started walking toward the Hero standing ahead.
