Demon Lord reborn as The Hero's Child

Raizen Kurogane was dead.

For centuries, the mere syllables of his name had been enough to silence marching armies. His overwhelming presence had shaped the geography of the Demon Realm, terrified human kingdoms into submission, crushed arrogant rebellions before they could spark, and forced even the most ancient, powerful demons to carefully weigh their words before daring to speak.

Now, there was nothing left of him.

No towering anchor of absolute dark mana. No iron-clad command holding the chaotic factions together. No suffocating demonic presence waiting behind the heavy doors of the capital.

There was only the silence of the grave, and the catastrophic consequences of his death.

The very first consequence was already sitting comfortably upon his throne.

Varkhan Mordrake had crowned himself the Overseer Demon Lord. The announcement spread through the fractured Demon Realm not as a proclamation of unity, but as a dark, freezing wind that promised immediate violence.

Some territories, governed by cowards and opportunists, accepted his absolute rule immediately, bowing their heads to the new tyrant. Others remained stubbornly silent, barricading their borders. A foolish few dared to question whether Varkhan truly possessed the right, or the strength, to command them in Raizen’s wake.

Those doubts did not last long.

Varkhan had absolutely no interest in debating his authority. He did not hold councils. He did not negotiate. If a demon lord recognized him as the Overseer, that demon was permitted to continue breathing. If another openly rejected him, Varkhan simply removed the problem from existence. Entire bloodlines were eradicated overnight.

There was no grand judgment behind his executions. There was no overarching philosophy, no twisted sense of demonic honor, no desire to prove his righteousness to the masses.

He acted according to one terrifying principle: his own absolute will.

If his pride demanded obedience, he demanded obedience. If his dark desires demanded possession, he simply took. If someone’s tone offended him, they disappeared into the shadows, never to be seen again. That was enough.

The Demon Realm quickly and violently understood exactly what kind of ruler had replaced Raizen Kurogane. Varkhan did not need a single soul to love or respect him. He only needed them to remember exactly who stood above them holding the executioner’s blade.

Yet, even after securing the supreme throne, one singular, irritating thought continued to occupy the darkest corners of Varkhan’s mind.

The Hero.

The man who had actually defeated Raizen. The man who had inexplicably vanished into the ether immediately after the slaughter.

Varkhan knew that Seiya Amane was out there, breathing the air of the human world. He simply did not know where. And there was a secondary possibility that concerned the new Overseer even more—if this Hero had survived, then eventually, the cycle of the world would produce another Hero.

Varkhan wanted to know exactly who that person would be. He wanted to break the blade before it was even forged.

So, he began a ruthless, systematic search.

At first, the inquisition was simple. Guild records were seized and burned. Traveling merchants were detained. Mercenaries and adventurers who had been involved in the vanguard assaults against Raizen’s borders were dragged into the dark.

Then, the search widened, turning into a paranoid crusade.

Anyone who might have ever known the Hero became a potential source of information. Those who knew something trivial were brutally interrogated. Those who claimed they knew nothing were interrogated again, using methods that broke the mind before the body. And those who still had absolutely nothing to offer were treated as though their genuine ignorance was a deliberate, personal insult to the Overseer.

The innocent families of the adventurers who had fought alongside the Hero’s party were eventually discovered.

Varkhan’s elite enforcers kicked down their doors in the dead of night. They dragged women, children, and elders into the mud. They demanded answers at the edge of a blade.

*Where had the Hero gone? Where had he traveled? Which pathetic human kingdom was hiding him in their walls?*

The families genuinely did not know. The adventurers did not know. The legendary Hero’s party had disappeared using an untraceable transportation crystal and had deliberately, permanently scattered into the wind to protect their secrets. There was no hidden fortress to reveal.

But Varkhan did not care about the truth.

His soldiers began tightening the chains. They began threatening the families.

The remaining adventurers resisted. They drew their steel and fought, knowing with absolute certainty that victory was mathematically impossible against the demonic elites. They fought simply because their terrified families were cowering behind them.

One veteran swordsman fell, his chest cleaved open, while shielding his screaming wife. Another fought, taking spell after spell, until the blood loss made it physically impossible to stand. Another remained completely silent, refusing to utter a single word even as he was forced to watch his family dragged away into the dark in heavy iron chains.

None of them gave Varkhan what he wanted. They died with their teeth gritted, taking the secret of the Hero’s location to their graves.

And still, the relentless, bloody search continued.

The tragedy achieved absolutely nothing. Varkhan learned nothing. But throughout the vast, bleeding Demon Realm, a new, suffocating fear began to spread. The Overseer Demon Lord was actively hunting the Hero, and he was more than willing to burn down the entire world to illuminate a single shadow.

Far from those atrocities, the fragile balance of power was violently shifting among the remaining Demon territories.

Seraphine Veyra remained entirely contained within her isolated kingdom.

She had no intention of leaving her borders. She knew the other Demon Peers were watching her every move like starving vultures. She knew they were just waiting for her to overextend, to show a single moment of weakness.

They had already begun testing her defenses with ruthless frequency.

Attacks came in endless, exhausting waves. Barrages of destructive demonic magic struck the outer barriers of her territory day and night. Elite strike forces attempted to violently penetrate the borders under the cover of darkness. Invisible scouts scoured her perimeter, searching for a single cracked stone.

Yet, Seraphine’s soldiers violently repelled every single attempt.

Much of the elite vanguard that had once served Raizen Kurogane now stood within her territory. They had lost their undisputed ruler, but they had not lost their lethal ability to fight. Under Seraphine’s uncompromising command, they became an absolute wall of dark steel and magic. A wall that bled, but categorically refused to break.

The greatest difference in the siege, however, was the ancient weapon hidden securely within her relocated armory.

The Demon Destruction Sword.

Every major magical artillery strike that breached the sky and reached the defensive field was instantly consumed.

Roaring meteors of hellfire disappeared into the blade. Scythes of compressed darkness vanished without a trace. Spears of absolute zero ice shattered into harmless, glittering fragments before they could even touch the walls. Demonic energy that should have leveled entire villages instead fed the ancient, ravenous weapon resting in the dark.

The more the other Demon Lords attacked her kingdom with magic, the more unimaginably dangerous the sword became.

Seraphine stood in the courtyard, watching the sky warp as another attack was swallowed whole, understanding the bitter, poetic irony. The relentless attacks meant to weaken her defenses were actively strengthening the very thing protecting her.

But she also understood that this siege could not continue forever.

She had once lived her immortal life almost entirely for the thrill of the battlefield. She had been a weapon. Now, she had an entire, terrified kingdom depending on her to be a shield.

She found herself standing before massive, sprawling maps instead of blood-soaked battlefields. She listened to endless, exhausting reports about food rationing, defensive fortifications, medical supplies, troop morale, damaged border villages, and civilian refugees.

Caelan Veyr stood faithfully beside her in the war room, helping her organize the logistics of a survival that had once seemed impossible.

Raizen’s elite army had become hers. Raizen’s legendary armory had become hers. And with them came a crushing, monumental responsibility she had never once asked for.

Seraphine stared down at the map, her eyes tracing the aggressive movements of her enemies.

”We cannot keep simply responding to attacks,” she said, her voice quiet but carrying the weight of iron. ”We cannot live forever in a cage of our own making.”

Caelan looked at her, noting the dark circles of exhaustion under her eyes. ”What do you intend to do, my Lady?”

Seraphine’s eyes remained fixed on the territory, thinking of the man who had died to give her this chance.

”Build.”

It was a simple, single word. But for Seraphine Veyra, it represented an entirely different existence. She had spent centuries perfecting the art of destroying the world. Now, she had to learn the agonizing, tedious art of governing it.

Outside her fortified borders, another Demon Lord harbored a very different, deeply obsessive ambition.

The Pride Demon Lord had become entirely consumed by the elusive Elven Kingdom.

The vast, ancient forests to the south concealed a civilization whose territory contained natural resources of unimaginable value. Rare, magical minerals. Ancient, living materials. Resources that could eventually be harvested to create devastating new weapons, indestructible armor, and world-altering magical devices.

He wanted those resources. He wanted the kingdom itself.

But there was one, infuriating problem.

He could not physically find it.

His most elite, shadow-walking scouts entered the thick, whispering forest and returned with absolutely nothing to report. Some of them never returned at all, swallowed by the trees. Armies marched boldly through the massive trunks, cutting down foliage, only to find themselves inexplicably standing in the exact same clearing they had left three days prior.

The spatial magic was flawless. Paths aggressively changed. Natural landmarks disappeared and reappeared at will. The deeper the demonic forces traveled, the more impossible and maddening the forest became.

The Pride Demon Lord eventually lost his patience and went himself.

He crossed the treacherous forests with his strongest, most heavily armored battalion. He searched relentlessly for any sign of civilization.

There were none.

No high walls. No golden gates. No paved roads. No visible kingdom. Just endless, mocking green.

He returned to his territory absolutely furious, executing his navigators on the spot. An entire, thriving kingdom existed somewhere inside those ancient forests, yet it had somehow managed to completely hide its existence from the undisputed might of the Demon Realm.

His arrogant pride refused to accept that such a thing was mathematically possible. The obsessive search continued, burning the edges of the forest in frustration.

And while Pride searched for a kingdom he could not see, another Demon Lord searched for a satisfaction much closer to home.

The Second Female Demon Lord stood within her dark, opulent chamber, staring fiercely at a glowing magical projection of Seraphine’s besieged territory.

Her cold eyes meticulously followed the movements of Seraphine’s soldiers along the battlements. Her expression remained perfectly, dangerously calm.

She had tried attacking Seraphine before. Again and again, throwing vast amounts of resources at the walls. Yet the results were always humiliatingly the same. The Demon Destruction Sword consumed the attacks. Seraphine survived, defiant and unbowed.

And every single failure made the woman hate her former ally more.

But Seraphine was not the only person occupying the venomous thoughts of the female Peer.

Varkhan was there, too.

Shortly after his coronation, she had approached him. She had attempted to draw closer to the new Overseer, offering her territory, her loyalty, and herself, believing her beauty and status made her an equal.

But Varkhan had not been impressed. He had looked at her from his throne, his eyes cold and dead, and explicitly compared her to the broken, beautiful thralls already writhing under his control.

His answer had been casual, but devastatingly cruel. He considered her entirely inferior to them. A desperate, aging relic trying to buy power with a currency she no longer possessed.

The insult stayed with her, festering like a poisoned wound.

She smiled when she remembered it. Not because it had stopped hurting. Because it had not.

Her humiliation did not breed humility; it simply changed the shape of her obsession.

She wanted Seraphine broken, to prove she was the superior female Lord. She wanted Varkhan’s attention, to make him swallow his insult. And she wanted the absolute, intoxicating satisfaction of proving to the world that she could take whatever she desired, by force if necessary.

For now, however, Varkhan was occupied with a much darker, much more profitable endeavor.

The Slave Territory.

The territory had passed into the ruthless hands of Draven Korr after the violent changes caused by Raizen’s death. The new ruler worked relentlessly to establish a horrifying reputation.

Under Draven, the territory violently expanded. So did its grim markets.

Slave merchants traveled from the most distant, depraved regions of the world.

Captured people—humans, elves, beastmen, and lesser demons alike—were dragged through its massive iron gates in chains. Corrupt humans who had willingly fallen under demonic influence found highly lucrative positions as overseers and torturers.

Criminals, flesh merchants, blood-soaked mercenaries, and the worst scum of the demon armies gathered together in the sprawling, wretched city. It quickly became a nightmare where absolutely anything with a pulse could be bought, sold, or broken.

But the territory’s true, terrifying value was not its vast accumulation of gold.

It was what happened to the ambient energy created there.

Fear. Hatred. Absolute Despair. Unending Anger.

The metaphysical emotions created by continuous, concentrated suffering did not simply disappear into the air. Under Draven’s dark industrialization, demons had learned how to aggressively harvest that negative energy.

They funneled it. Condensed it. Stored it in massive, subterranean vats. And eventually, through agonizing rituals, they crystallized it into pure, dense magical resources.

The resulting blood-red crystals were highly addictive and packed with explosive mana. They were transported and sold throughout Demon-controlled territories to fuel spells, power siege engines, and feed the ruling class.

The more suffering the territory brutally produced, the more immense power the Demon Realm could harvest.

The Slave Territory was no longer simply a place of subjugation. It was an industrial machine. A resource. A flawless, grinding engine that converted human agony into demonic strength.

And Varkhan knew its exact value.

He also knew that the Demon Realm still possessed another, far more dangerous secret. A secret currently hidden inside an armory heavily guarded by Seraphine Veyra.

The original blueprint.

Centuries ago, long before Raizen’s final battle, a master design had existed for another kind of apocalyptic weapon. It had been conceptualized as a direct alternative to the Demon Destruction Sword.

But its method of operation was fundamentally, horrifyingly different.

The Demon Destruction Sword simply consumed demonic magic.

This theoretical weapon would consume something far more precious, and far more permanent.

Souls.

A soul trapped inside the dark steel of the weapon would become a permanent, screaming source of infinite power. Its energy could be channeled again and again, drawn upon until the end of time. The victim would never return to the cycle of reincarnation. They would never find peace. They would remain imprisoned, fully conscious, burning as fuel for eternity.

Raizen Kurogane had possessed the original design.

And then, he had flatly rejected it.

Even the supreme Demon Lord had understood what such a weapon meant. Power obtained by permanently imprisoning the eternal souls of others was a line of atrocity not worth crossing. It was an abomination to the very fabric of existence.

Varkhan Mordrake did not share that archaic, sentimental belief.

He wanted the blueprint. He wanted to forge the sword.

Once created, he would fill its steel with souls. The stronger the souls, the greater the weapon’s apocalyptic power.

He would feed it the souls of elite demons. The bright souls of human adventurers. The defiant souls of anyone who dared stand against his reign. Perhaps, if they continued to bore him, even the souls of the other Demon Peers.

Varkhan had absolutely no intention of letting such god-like power go to waste.

But he did not rush to claim it.

He sat comfortably upon his high throne, looking out over his bleeding empire.

The Hero was missing. No divine successor had yet appeared to challenge the dark. Seraphine was neatly contained within her defensive cage. The Elven Kingdom remained completely isolated and hidden. The other Demon Lords obeyed his every command.

The world currently had no visible force capable of challenging his absolute will.

For the very first time in centuries, Varkhan believed the future belonged entirely, undeniably to him.

And perhaps that arrogant certainty was exactly why he felt he could afford to wait.

Far away from the blood, the chains, and the dark ambitions of the Demon Realm, there was a place no demonic scout had ever discovered.

A quiet, unnamed village.

Small, rustic houses with thatched roofs stood peacefully among rolling fields of golden wheat and ancient, mossy trees.

There were no towering obsidian castles here. No magical armies marching in lockstep. No ancient, cursed ruins to explore. No heavy, oppressive Demon Lord throne demanding tribute.

The village was simply, beautifully alive.

People worked the earth with their hands. Children played in the shallow streams, laughing in the afternoon sun. Exhausted farmers returned home at sunset, greeting their neighbors with tired, honest smiles.

And inside one small, warm house at the edge of the woods, a woman held her newborn child.

Mizuki sat in a wooden rocking chair, looking down at the bundle in her arms. The baby was incredibly tiny, wrapped in soft, woven linen. His tiny hands opened and closed without any real purpose, grasping at the air. His bright eyes moved slowly around the sunlit room, taking in the shapes and shadows.

Seiya stood nearby, leaning against the wooden table. He had traded his glowing holy armor for a simple tunic, his calloused hands resting on the wood.

He stared intently at his son for several long seconds.

Then, he smiled, the heavy burdens of his past entirely absent from his face.

”He’s looking at me.”

Mizuki laughed quietly, a warm, musical sound that filled the small room. ”He has eyes, Seiya. He looks at everything.”

”I know. But he’s really looking.”

Seiya leaned closer, hovering over the baby’s face. He pulled a ridiculous, exaggerated expression, crossing his eyes and puffing his cheeks.

The baby’s face remained completely, stoically still.

Seiya tried again, wiggling his eyebrows and making a soft, clicking noise.

Nothing. Not even a blink.

He moved his large hand, gently waving his fingers, and made another, highly undignified expression that would have horrified the bards who sang of his legendary exploits.

The baby stared blankly at him.

Then, the newborn’s tiny face suddenly changed. The brow furrowed. The lips trembled.

His tiny mouth opened.

And he screamed.

It was a high, demanding, deeply offended wail that shattered the peace of the quiet room.

Seiya immediately pulled back as if he had been burned by hellfire, his eyes wide with sheer panic.

Mizuki blinked, startled by the sudden volume.

The baby continued crying, his face turning red with absolute indignation.

”What did I do?” Seiya asked frantically, looking at his hands as if they were weapons. ”I just looked at him!”

Mizuki reached for the child, lifting him from the blanket.

The very moment she held the child securely against her chest, the crying abruptly stopped.

Absolute silence returned to the room.

Seiya stared, thoroughly betrayed.

The baby relaxed completely, nuzzling into his mother’s warmth with a tiny sigh.

Mizuki looked up at her husband, her eyes dancing with amusement.

Seiya looked at the child. Then back at Mizuki.

”He hates me.”

”He doesn’t hate you, Seiya.”

”He screamed at me! Look at him, he’s judging me.”

”He’s a newborn. He doesn’t know how to judge.”

”He made a deliberate decision,” Seiya insisted, folding his arms across his chest in defeat. A man who had slain dragons and fought the Supreme Demon Lord to a standstill, completely undone by an infant.

Mizuki smiled, rocking gently in the chair.

Seiya sighed, his expression softening as he watched them. ”I think he has already chosen you as his favorite.”

The baby slept peacefully against his mother’s chest, entirely unbothered by the legendary status of his parents.

His name was Kōya Amane.

Nobody in that quiet, sunlit village knew what he would one day become.

Nobody knew that something ancient, stubborn, and incredibly powerful had forcefully crossed a cosmic path of light in the moments immediately following Raizen Kurogane’s death.

Nobody knew that the tiny child sleeping in the rocking chair carried a dual power that did not belong entirely to the righteous light, nor entirely to the abyssal darkness.

For now, there was only a sleeping baby in a warm house.

But sometimes, the absolute greatest changes in the history of the world begin in the quietest of moments.

As Mizuki gently laid him down in his wooden crib, Kōya’s tiny fingers twitched in his sleep.

For a brief, impossible moment, a faint, heavy darkness—the absolute, undeniable mana of a Supreme Demon Lord—gathered subtly around his right hand, cooling the air.

It disappeared almost immediately, sinking back beneath the skin.

Then, beneath the woven blanket, something else stirred in response.

A pale, holy glow—the pure, brilliant lineage of the Hero and his mother’s absolute protection—appeared softly around his left hand, illuminating the dark fabric.

It lasted only for a single heartbeat, fighting the dark for balance.

Then, it vanished.

Kōya Amane slept on, dreaming of nothing.

Outside the wooden window, the golden sun slowly disappeared beyond the distant hills, plunging the world into twilight.

The Demon Realm was violently changing. Dark kingdoms were preparing for war. Cruel Demon Lords were making apocalyptic plans. Innocent adventurers were being hunted like animals in the shadows.

And somewhere beneath the quiet, unassuming roof of a small human village, the future had already been born.
