The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

The Old Madam’s son threatened Qin Xiaomeng: ”Little classmate, let me tell you, don’t think you can just walk away like nothing happened. If you dare not pay up, I’ll get people to go make a scene at your home, I’ll make sure your whole family can’t get any peace.”

Qin Xiaomeng was so angry she was about to lose her mind: ”Fine, you want to make a scene, right? Then go ahead and make a scene. You think anyone’s afraid of you?”

At the school gate, the Old Madam’s son didn’t dare do anything to Qin Xiaomeng. Qin Xiaomeng stopped a cab and left right then, and he didn’t dare stop her for real, afraid something might really happen.

After Qin Xiaomeng left, Feng Yino looked at the man in fear: ”I—I don’t have money, don’t you come after me. Even if my family sold everything, we still wouldn’t have that kind of money. If you really push me, I’ll go hang myself at your front door. I’m a good student from a key high school; if you really force me into something, your whole family will get cursed to death.”

The Old Madam’s son was a thug; he knew quite a lot of people, and he knew Feng Yino as well.

He was clear about Feng Yino’s poor family situation. He knew he couldn’t squeeze money out of her. Now, if he wanted to settle this, he could only latch onto that girl surnamed Qin.

Feng Yino was a bit scared too, and she quickly ran off with her backpack.

The Old Madam’s son went to the hospital; the Old Madam was lying in bed eating fruit.

Her son sat down and looked at her: ”Mom, if anyone asks who hit you, just say it was the other little girl. I’ve checked: that little girl’s family should be pretty well-off, and her family are outsiders, not locals of the Capital. They’re probably some kind of upstarts. Give them a scare, push them a bit, maybe we can squeeze a big sum of money out of them.”

The Old Madam nodded: ”I got it. When I fell, I could tell. That little girl’s clothes were really good quality. I felt the fabric—very good stuff, you could tell it wasn’t cheap. If she can wear clothes that nice, her family can’t be short of money.”

”You’re the smart one, Mom.”

The Old Madam’s son laughed.

He then lowered his voice and asked, ”How do you feel, body-wise?”

The Old Madam shook her head: ”Actually nothing much happened to me, just twisted my ankle. Two days in bed and I’ll be fine.”

”You can’t say that.” Her son was so startled he hurried to stop her: ”If it’s like that, how are we supposed to get money? You have to say you’re badly hurt—say your leg hurts, your body hurts, that everywhere hurts. You’re old; the doctors won’t dare say there’s nothing wrong with you.”

The Old Madam spoke a bit weakly: ”But they’ve done all the tests from head to toe. I really don’t have anything wrong. You think you can just keep lying in the hospital? And if the other side is tough and just refuses to pay, if we go to court, we still need a diagnosis from the hospital.”

That was true as well.

The Old Madam’s son thought for a bit: ”Mom, look, I’m this old and still haven’t gotten myself a wife. When are you going to get to hold a grandson? Just treat this as doing it for me, for your son—could you put up with a little grievance?”

”Say it.”

The Old Madam pricked up her ears to listen.

Her son lowered his voice further: ”While there’s no one in the ward right now, I’ll smash your leg once, we’ll get a fracture or something, and best if we can make some other problem too...”

The Old Madam got a huge fright: ”No, no, that’d hurt too much, it’d hurt someone to death.”

”Mom, you’re my own mother, just do it for me. If we don’t have money, when am I ever going to get married? Are you really going to watch me spend my whole life alone...”

The Old Madam’s son was practically about to kneel to her.

The Old Madam thought for a moment, then steeled herself: ”Fine then, you—you do it.”

The Old Madam’s son locked the door from the inside, stuffed something in her mouth, and then found something to start hitting her leg with all his strength.

Back home, Feng Yino still felt extremely scared.

If she could help it, she truly didn’t want to hurt Qin Xiaomeng.

After all, Qin Xiaomeng was a pretty good-tempered girl and generous with her money. Qin Xiaomeng’s family was well-off; when the two of them went out to play, it was usually Qin Xiaomeng who paid. Qin Xiaomeng also had a brother and a sister, and there were lots of things at home they didn’t use; she’d bring them over for Feng Yino to use. Being friends with Qin Xiaomeng had saved Feng Yino a lot of expenses. She had even thought the two of them would have fun together all three years of high school, but then something like this happened.

Feng Yino knew that Old Madam; she was a famous shrew in the alley, and her son wasn’t any good either.

It was Feng Yino who startled her and made her fall to the ground; the Old Madam definitely wouldn’t let it go. If the Old Madam’s whole family really latched onto her to extort money, Feng Yino was sure she’d never have a day of peace for the rest of her life.

For her own sake, she had no choice but to push this onto Qin Xiaomeng.

After all, Qin Xiaomeng’s family had money and wouldn’t miss that little bit; but her family was different. Her family was poor—if they had to pay the Old Madam’s medical bills and all that, where would the money for her future college come from? Besides, if the Old Madam opened her mouth like a lion, were they supposed to sell their apartment?

Anyway, Feng Yino felt that she’d rather never take small advantages again in the future than drag her whole family down to the streets.

The situation back then was urgent; she couldn’t spare the time to think much, and she didn’t have any very thorough solution. All she could do was offend Qin Xiaomeng so bluntly. After all, shoving Qin Xiaomeng out there and hinting to the Old Madam that Qin Xiaomeng had money was the move most in her favor.

But thinking about it now, Feng Yino was still pretty scared.

She had done something guilty, and she was still just a young girl who hadn’t been through much; her psychological endurance wasn’t that strong.

Feng Yino didn’t do her homework; she just sat there in a daze, imagining all kinds of scenarios.

She recalled that there had been no one in the alley at the time, and that spot was a dead angle with no cameras or anything. The scene back then wouldn’t have been recorded. In other words, as long as she and the Old Madam kept their stories straight, it would be fine.

Thinking of this, only then did Feng Yino’s heart settle down.

On this side, after Anning went out, Xiao Yilin comforted Qin Xiaomeng, and after a while Xiao Yuan came back.

As soon as Xiao Yuan came in, he asked: ”Xiaomeng, what’s wrong? Who bullied you?”

Seeing Xiao Yuan made Qin Xiaomeng want to cry again.

Her eyes were red: ”Dad, I got into trouble.”

Xiao Yuan sat down: ”Tell it properly.”

Qin Xiaomeng repeated what had happened. Xiao Yuan’s face stayed very calm; there was no anger or panic on it: ”That’s it? Just this little thing has you crying like this.”

Uh?

Qin Xiaomeng froze, and so did Xiao Yilin.

”T-this is still a small thing?”

Qin Xiaomeng hiccuped as she asked.

”The sky hasn’t fallen.”

Xiao Yuan patted her shoulder: ”Besides, even if the sky falls, your dad will hold it up for you. What are you afraid of? All right, go upstairs, take a shower, and have a good rest. Tonight your dad will take you two out for something good to eat.”

Qin Xiaomeng broke into a smile through her tears: ”Thanks, Dad.”

Xiao Yuan got up and said to Xiao Yilin: ”Look after your sister, I’m going out for a bit.”

He grabbed his coat and headed out. Xiao Yilin took a few steps after him: ”Dad, Mom went out saying she was going to find the recorded video or something.”

Xiao Yuan nodded: ”I’m going to the hospital to get a handle on the situation.”
