The Comeback of the Cannon-Fodder Supporting Actress

Xie Xu was silent for a long time before asking, ”Who else did you tell about this?”

Xie Kun spoke frankly, ”Only my cousin knows. He helped investigate many things, and he advised me not to expose it, worried that Sun Hong might act out impulsively.”

”Your cousin thought things through very well.”

Xie Xu suppressed his anger and said softly, ”Let’s leave it at that for now; allow me some time to think.”

”Okay.”

Xie Kun actually thought the same. He didn’t want to bring this up with the old man right now: ”Dad, you have to think faster; we can’t let He Xiaohong offend everyone in our family, can we?”

”Alright, alright, I’ll think of a way quickly, alright?”

Xie Xu reassured Xie Kun with some words and then hung up the phone.

After hanging up the phone, Xie Xu’s face was gloomy.

He slammed his right hand hard on the table with a ”bang”: ”This is bullying, sheer bullying.”

The He Xiaohong family purely treats the Xie Family as fools.

Back when they admitted relations, how old was He Xiaohong? She must know in her heart who her biological parents are, and the people in Liushu Village can’t be ignorant either, can they?

Even if He Xiaohong’s parents have passed away, she still has an older brother, and the He Family has other relatives. Can these people truly be unaware?

Thinking about how He Xiaohong had often taken money from the Xie Family to aid her relatives in the He Family over the years made Xie Xu even more furious.

What does that mean?

Treating them like fools and using their funds as giveaways, while harming his own sister and deceiving them?

The more Xie Xu thought about it, the angrier he got, pacing around the room.

He also wanted to expose He Xiaohong immediately, but thinking of Sun Hong’s mysterious capabilities, Xie Xu could only endure.

Xie Kun decided to stay in Baisha County.

He really didn’t want to return to the Capital now, fearing that in his anger, he might accidentally reveal the secret, which would be a disaster.

After settling down, Xie Kun would occasionally appear before Mrs. Qin, and after a few meetings, the aunt and nephew grew close.

Mrs. Qin didn’t know why, but she found Xie Kun exceptionally endearing, wanting to care for this young man. Talking to Xie Kun made her quite happy, as she found everything about him good.

One day, Mrs. Qin went out to buy groceries and met Xie Kun on her way back. Xie Kun quickly came over to help with her grocery basket.

Mrs. Qin walked and chatted with Xie Kun, ”Xiao Kun, why don’t you eat at home today? I’ll make something delicious for you.”

Xie Kun wanted to understand Mrs. Qin more.

He also felt quite fond of his Aunt, wanting to spend more time with her: ”Sure, if you don’t mind the trouble.”

”Trouble? It’s nothing; it’s just the two of us at home. I’m happy you often come over to chat with us.”

Mrs. Qin and Xie Kun chatted and laughed as they returned home together.

Upon reaching the doorstep, Mrs. Qin saw Anning holding a box, waiting at the door.

”Ningning, why are you here?”

Mrs. Qin smiled as she opened the door.

Anning looked at Mrs. Qin and then at Xie Kun: ”Xie Kun, how come...”

”You two know each other?”

Mrs. Qin let Anning and Xie Kun enter. ”You see, Xiao Kun lives in this neighborhood. This kid is quite nice and often helps me with chores.”

”We know each other.”

Anning entered and set down the box: ”Mom, this is something A Yuan sent our clients while doing some Feng Shui work recently. We can’t use it all at home, so I brought some over. Keep what you find useful; if there are leftovers, let An Ping take them to his home.”

”Just leave it here for now.”

Mrs. Qin didn’t look inside the box but pulled Anning aside to ask, ”How did you meet Xiao Kun?”

Anning smiled, ”We met while vacationing at the beach. He was playing there too, and we happened to run into each other. I helped him out a bit, and that’s how we got acquainted.”

Xie Kun nodded repeatedly, ”Yes, the elder sister helped me; I haven’t even thanked her yet.”

”Why thank me?” Mrs. Qin waved her hand, ”It’s not easy being out and about. Her helping you is only right.”

Anning laughed and invited Xie Kun to sit, ”Have a seat; I’ll get you something to eat.”

Anning opened the fridge, ”Would you like something to drink? Water, a beverage, or tea?”

”A bottle of juice, please.” Xie Kun was genuinely thirsty.

Anning handed him a bottle of juice, and then from the box, she took out some dried fruit for Xie Kun to try.

Xie Kun did not hesitate, accepting them and eating.

In his mind, at his Aunt’s house and with his sister, he felt there was no need for formality.

Anning sat next to Xie Kun, ”Didn’t you say your home was in the Capital? How did you end up here in our rural area?”

Uh?

Xie Kun really didn’t know how to explain.

His eyes darted around, recalling Anning mentioning that her husband was a Feng Shui Master. He smiled and said, ”Well, something happened at home, and I heard there’s a very skilled master here, so I came to try my luck, hoping to find him.”

”What happened at home?”

Anning asked softly.

Seeing Mrs. Qin heading to the kitchen, she leaned closer and whispered, ”Truth be told, my husband is a Feng Shui Master, and following him, I’ve learned a bit. I can tell something’s off about you.”

Xie Kun was just looking for an excuse but didn’t expect such a response.

He was startled, ”Wh-what’s wrong with me?”

”I can’t quite see it.”

Anning wasn’t a swindler, nor did she try to read fortunes for people. She glanced at Xie Kun again, ”I’ll call my husband and ask him to come over and take a look.”

”Alright.”

Xie Kun hadn’t wasted his time here and had heard people say Xiao Yuan was quite skilled. Many wealthy people invited him to help with Feng Shui, so he felt Xiao Yuan must have some abilities.

Anning took out her phone and called Xiao Yuan, asking him to come over at noon.

After the call, Anning told Xie Kun, ”My husband will come soon and check on you. You can also tell him about the issues at home; perhaps he can help you.”

”Thanks.”

Xie Kun smiled in gratitude and drank a few sips of juice.

Xiao Yuan arrived quite quickly; Mrs. Qin had just finished preparing the vegetables when he came.

Upon entering, Anning asked, ”Why did you come so quickly?”

Xiao Yuan responded with a laugh, ”I was nearby when you called.”

He changed his shoes, sat on the couch, and looked at Xie Kun, ”Little Xie, who have you been interacting with lately? Why do you have a curse on you?”

Xie Kun was so frightened he almost fell to the floor, ”What—what curse?”

Xiao Yuan didn’t answer Xie Kun but took out a talisman: ”Let’s resolve it first; this curse can cause big harm over time.”

He pointed at Xie Kun and threw the talisman paper onto him, ”Go.”

The talisman, as if it had eyes, floated and stuck to Xie Kun, then spontaneously combusted, causing Xie Kun’s face to turn pale.

Once the talisman paper burned to ashes, Xie Kun saw a dark gray mist emitting from his body, followed by an unpleasant smell.

Anning quickly opened the window, urging Xie Kun to stand by it. This area faced south, and the midday sun was strong. The sunlight hitting Xie Kun made him feel relieved.

Xiao Yuan approached him, ”This curse is a form of witchcraft, intended to ensure you don’t live past eighteen. I didn’t see it when we were in Hainan, likely because the time hadn’t come yet. Are you about to turn eighteen?”

Xie Kun nodded, ”Yes, less than a month away.”

”That’s it. The curse only manifests within the month it’s about to take effect. It might also be that I wasn’t examining closely before.”

Xie Kun’s expression changed drastically, ”Master, I... I’m cursed; do you think my family might be cursed too?”
